Yield Vinyl old v new comparrison

The Yield reissue sounds amazing. Great definition of the lower frequencies.
I set my treble to 4 and bass on 2 and it sounded amazing. I originally had the bass and travel both on 2 but the bass kind of drowned out the drums so I adjusted accordingly and it was good from there on. Very crisp and clear sound. Kind of sounds like you are in the recording studio with the band.
To my ears it is far superior to the new FLAC digital files as well. Warmer sound by far. As far as comparing it to the original vinyl copy I have, they are both good but the old copy has a few spots that are a little more staticky and is louder and has less attention paid to the mixing and definition of the lower frequencies. The original copy is also a little more harsh to my ears whereas the new copy is more pleasing to the ear.

Glad to hear it. I got mine but haven't listened yet. I was not impressed by the 24/192 files that were released. I could not pick up a difference vs the CD. I hope there is some better life in the vinyl.

that is interesting. Bob Ludwig didn't originally master Yield. I think maybe that was the first album Bob didn't master.

Exciting that so far the reviews seem better than the Ten/vs/Vitalogy represses which weren't very good

Yeah to my ears it sounds better than the original pressing. Like I said it's less harsh on the ears and there is more clarity and the bottom frequencies really shine without sacrificing the higher ones. Great job overall with the sound quality.

Yep, OG Yield sounds great, and I have an average, 20 year old record player.

The only OG that sounds shitty is Vs. I don't have Ten (that could be the same as Vs.). or Riot Act. Sold Avocado for some cool dough cuz I needed it - it sounded average at best. No Code and 2 Legs is real good, too.

I dont think Avocado could sound good on any format. Was mixed/mastered awfully. It's the gold standard for brickwalling.

Listened to Yield last night - full of pops and crackles. It's distracting during the quiet passages. Gonna give it a good cleaning this morning and hopefully that helps.

Mine was actually fairly quiet. I was disappointed that my 10C version arrived a little creased.

I don't have the OG to compare it to, but I did A/B the new vinyl vs the new 192 HD tracks and I could hear some differences there, although I would generally assign it to the 'warmness' factor of a vinyl. The HD tracks were a little brighter, almost harsher. The vinyl was definitely a few degrees smoother. FWIW, when I compared the HD tracks to the original cd prior, I did not hear much of a difference. So my conclusion is that the new vinyl does sound better than any of the available digital formats, but not by a high factor.

Cleaning helped a little but it's still bad, in my opinion. I've never gotten a new record this bad before.
I'm just gonna grab another copy at my local shop and see if it's any better.

Well seeing as it was remastered for vinyl it makes sense that version sounds best. Quality of Pearl Jam presses has been very subpar since binaural

Never owned the OP, but this thing sounds great. Only disappointment, was looking forward to showing my wife the pics in the booklet, trying to find the "yield shapes" in each picture. Not sure if the original pressing has big pics, the pics in my cd are bigger than the reissue.

My original Yield and No Code are in mint shape and they sound as good, if not better, than my reissue.. it's a tough comparison to do, and I'm certainly biased to the originals, but because I treat mine with professional care, the sound from the originals is freakin stellar. Played on a MusicHall mmf 2.2LE turntable with the Blue 2M Ortofon cartridge through an Arcam a19 amp and Tannoy DC4 bookshelf speakers. Play on folks. Enjoy them reissues and originals. Vinyl tastes good!
