Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band set another new band record for their longest U.S. concert with four hours of rock ‘n’ roll at the Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford on Tuesday, Aug,. 30.

The concert beat, by one minute, the previous record the band set of 3:59 on Thursday, Aug. 25 at MetLife. A concert at the stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 23 was 3:52 long, and it had also set a record.

Great set. I knew they'd go over the 4 hour mark. Damn jersey deserves the overall record too bad there is one show ahead.
I think there's a few left. I know of three more (1 in dc 2 in philly)
    show was killer last night!
I was following along on periscope. A lot of the first two albums at the start!

Yeah tons of old stuff tonight. I think the first 14 songs were from before 1973. Awesome set list. The guy literally took a twenty second break after two and a 1/2 hours and came right back out.
I can see pearl jam doing the request thing like Bruce.

you wouldn't say that if it was pearl jam. the boss was the show that really changed music and the concert experience for me back in 78' the darkness tour. those shows were over 3 hours back then when only the grateful dead played long shows as well. today i know the boss is a great talent and one of the best of all times , but for me his evolution has become too staged and too hollywood. i hope pearl jam does not become this.

I love Bruce - I've seen him about 10 times. His concerts are absolutely incredible. I just feel like my energy level starts to go downhill around the three hour mark regardless of what I'm doing.
I was in attendance on Thursday and the energy was the same 4 hours in as it was at the start. I have seen PJ over 100 times and Bruce and his crowd had WAY more energy then most of the PJ crowds I have seen with the exception of South America. I have seen Bruce maybe 10 times and this show was just amazing and I will never forget it.

No matter who it is, 4 hours is just too long for a concert. I think PJ is stretching it with 3 hours actually. By 2 hours 45 minutes the crowd really starts to weaken. I'd rather see a show that ends on a high note throughout the venue rather than in sheer exhaustion. Some people start walking out after 3 hours in my experience, and a big portion of the crowd just loses the energy that keeps a good show going. I personally do have the stamina for that, but the majority of people do not, especially as the fan base gets older and older.

jersey crowd was rocking for 4 hours tonight and no one started to leave until twist and shout. definitely not too long for a concert. and i've never seen a pj crowd start to weaken after 2 hours and 45 minutes. what show were you at when this happened?
Tom, that show tonight was awesome! we were in section 118 row 15. were you in the first section of ga? tonight was the best bruce show i've ever seen.
We were in the first GA section and were able to make it pretty close to the stage without lining up early. We walked in around 10 minutes before he came on. Great show... Loved every minute
How did you get the first section in ga?
We had GA tickets. They have two GA sections on the floor and they have around 2000 wristbands for the front section that they give out on a first come first serve basis. We grabbed the front section wristbands around 5pm and then went back to tailgating. There are numbers on the wristbands and if you want to wait on line after that they randomly select a number and then start letting people into the GA section by number so everyone has an equal chance to be up front. Once they give out the wristbands for the front section everyone else gets a wristband for the rear GA section. Pretty fair way to do it.

ga for philly 2, cant wait! havent seen bruce in 4 years which seems like a long time.
  • Bruce also does show bits. He pours water over his head and out of his boots. It's cute and funny. But Ed will NEVER do that type of stuff, thankfully. PJ was, is and will always be a rock band (that can also play "Nothingman" and "Oceans" and "Bee Girl.")

Eddie had a light specially designed and built so he could do a "show bit" where he was swinging on it during Porch. For every show.

Absolutely, spread the word. There's no excuse for not rocking out at a rock concert.

But I saw the Pixies last year and Frank Black didn't say one word that wasn't a song lyric. No hello. No goodbye.

That's the worst! I am not sure how artists think they can really put on a good show without engaging the crowd. How would that be any different than watching them on TV?
Maybe they engage with their music?

Neither Trent Reznor or Neil Young speak much.

I think that's pretty cool. I don't have a problem with Eddies stage banter. But I don't have a problem with bands going out and just play the shit out of their songs. And not swinging on lights and having a stack of tambourines waiting or bringing out people on stage during the same song at the shows etc.

    So, I don't think that's the worst :)

I didn't mean just engaging vocally with banter (although I did find that NIN could have engaged the crowd better either way. Neil Young engages very well with his music and vibe). Sounded to me like Jack Black didn't engage at all in any way from the comment. No hello or thank you or goodbye or anything? Not a single word said? That's weird.

Springsteen will bring it for Philly.
Being a fan, and someone who owns his entire catalog on vinyl, 4 hours of him in concert would probably be too much for me to take.

As Mike said... It's amazing that he plays for 4 hours and the encore break for him is less than a minute. It's really not even a true encore break. Unbelievable.

The thing is, it's not just Bruce. It's everyone that's on the stage, everyone behind the stage, and the fans. He and the band have been knocking it out of the park all year. My wife and Is saw him in Seattle, when Ed showed up. Great show. One of my personal faves, b/c I'm a River guy. We were on the outer rail and my wife shook his hand a couple times. He gets a workout from it all. He's sweating--and he's just living it up. He's passionate--loves what he does. So does the E Street Band. It shows. I wonder--sometimes Bruce's wife Patti tours with them; sometimes not. Of course, they have kids at home. Regular people, at least some of the time. Our show was 3:42, I think. We were tired by the end, but I would've been happy to push for four hours. I feel fortunate to have a good life, full of great moments and people. That show was one such moment. It was a highlight for 2016. I think Bruce (and PJ) are the genuine articles--they know they can both enjoy what they do, and create moments for the fans like this.

I think it is too. He is a meticulous preparer and I don't think he leaves much up to improv. There was an article a few years ago describing their rehearsals for an upcoming tour. He even rehersed the between song stories and banter that he is famous for in front of an empty auditorium.

Here's the article. It's a pretty long piece that gets into a lot of what makes Bruce tick. It is a little bit of a bummer but I think it all is the name of putting on the best possible show for the fans. Some cool stuff in the article if you have time to read it all the way through. Bruce also has an autobiography coming out next month that I'm excited to get.

I went to Bruce last Sunday in Chicago, and it was great. However, I did wonder if the gathering of the request signs was rigged.
I think it is too. He is a meticulous preparer and I don't think he leaves much up to improv. There was an article a few years ago describing their rehearsals for an upcoming tour. He even rehersed the between song stories and banter that he is famous for in front of an empty auditorium.
    seriously?! what a bummer!
I kinda got that impression when I saw him last week. However it's still a great show.

  • for sure some of the sign requests at the boss's shows are rigged and i have no issues with that at all
the guy is very very well rehearsed, always. i've never heard him ever forget lyrics and i have probably seen 25shows
while some people might call that "hollywood" i would say it's not
    a perfectionist? YES 100%

  • To be clear, I don't think the signs were planted. I think he had his setlist planned (with some flexibility or spontaneity allowance), and then he gathered signs to largely match. If it keeps fans (and Bruce) engaged, great. No one asks about how the delicious sausage is produced, right?

Absolutely great show, planned setlist or not.

just my opinion, but 4 hours of boring is still pretty effing boring.

just what I was thinking. I could probably sit thru an hour of Bruce acoustic but not with the whole band.
