No one cares about what goes on in North Dakota because it is the wastelands of the USA.

Odd that it would be perceived as such. I've been to several parts of the Dakotas a number of times and found most places there to be quite serene and beautiful. The real waste lands in America are places like the tar sands areas in Alberta, Las Vegas, Nevada and the minds of hateful people.
Alberta is a western province in Canada (we are still a sovereign country) which is part of NA...funny how you omit California, why is that?
I said "America". Alberta is part of the Americas. I'm well aware of where it is.

Why did I not mention California? Probably because I have mentioned many times on AMT my dismay at what Ray Dasmann refereed to as "The Destruction of California". That, in fact, is the name of his best known book and it was written in 1965 when California had already been beaten, stripped, robbed and bludgeoned to death by greed, pollution and over-population. Sorry to have assumed but I think most everyone knows how much I bereave my home state of 65 years.
And places like California will become even more overpopulated as the years go on, the weather is such a draw for so many even though it's quite pricy to live there. Anyways I know you knew where Alberta was. Bad attempt at sarcasm...
Sorry I missed the sarcasm!

Yes, California has lovely weather. In fact, let me give you today's forecast:

Smokey haze with continued smokey haze through September.

    Now that's sarcasm....hahaha

    Good stuff, Brian...

Then after I thought about it, I thought maybe you were looking to claim Alberta as yours as an alternative place to live for the next 8 years of either president Clinton or trump .... hahaha.

No, of course it hasn't. But government did step in and at least suspended the assault on sacred Native lands. Oil corporations didn't do that.

Wait, so you are giving Government credit for stopping this?

Didn't Government approve the project in the first place? Or did these nasty oil companies just decided to trespass on these lands without permission? And who was out there protecting the oil companies over the last few weeks? That's right, government cops.

So Government created this problem, and Government gets the credit for solving the problem.

It is fucking pathetic is what it is, and so are the endless excuses and defenses of Government.

Yes, government played a role in this. We need to change government to protect rights, not abolish government. Your attempts to do that make about as much sense my me attempting to throw a baseball across lake Erie.

Yes, oil industry played a major role in this. We need to set a standard by which corporations are not allowed to destroy cultures.

This issue is about the rights of Native American's rights to the sacred land and culture and how YET AGAIN those rights have been trampled on.

Government is the problem. It has been the entire time of this episode, it holds all blame.
  • Lobbyists with big money paid to politicians is the problem.

So government stops this pipeline and suddenly it's good government respecting native rights ... yeah it's more like a high profile incident the government is using to brainwash people into believing government cares about First Nations people's...

No, I'm not giving government credit for this. First off all it's not stopped, it's been temporarily halted to give us all time to forget about it and send the protestors home. It's the Native Americans (with some help from those who support indigenous rights and culture) who deserve credit for getting this pipeline stopped for now. We'll see how long that lasts.

    Haha, no.

But who took the bribes? Government.

OK, I'm gonna get my arm in shape and throw that ball across lake Erie while you make government disappear. Lets see who succeeds first.

Until the election is over is my timeline, everything is political and about politics.I would never advocate for no government, but definitely less government and especially bureaucrats ... government is way too big with way to many over paid bureaucrats. I look at government this way ... any system of government that allows itself the power to raise their own salaries and give themselves the power of taxation is corrupt.

There is little doubt in most of our minds here that to a bigger or lesser degree, government needs improving.

Let's pleased not get so bogged down here about discussing the pros and cons of government that we forget the subject of the thread.

The historical shame that American government has placed upon natives?

Again, the problem. EVERY injustice against Native Americans was by Government. Every.

Well if Amy Goodman gets arrested oddly for the powers that be that arrest will bring even much more needed press to this standoff. She was only doing what she does her job of reporting the event. Ridiculous.....

but he mentioned Alberta ... probably more american than canadian there ... haha ...

seriously tho ... this issue embodies what we face currently as citizens in a supposed democracy ...

here, we have citizens rights being trampled with because gov't continues to side with corporations ... something that has essentially played out in every facet of our lives ... shouldn't the interests of the people supersede that of corporations!? ...
