I can only list bands where this is possible (i.e. no Hendrix and the Experience, Cream, etc). That said:

REM (after ready recent interviews with Peter Buck I would say this is highly unlikely)

John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. Possible because they are all still alive.

John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with Peter Green. Same as above, still possible.

John Mayall and the Blues Breakers with Mick Taylor (there were a number of personnel changes with these bands but I'm fairly sure at least one of the configurations is possible).

Bands that did re-unite to my great joy:
    Dinosaur Jr
    Mission of Burma

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

The Beta Band. When Heroes to Zeros came out, I loved the album and couldn't wait to see them after catching them about a half dozen times during Hot Shot II tour. But they broke up shortly thereafter. Still think about it and how unexpected it was

The Neds are still pretty active, even if they're not really putting out new material and unlikely to be playing outside the UK.

    Didn't know that...

    R.E.M.
Fugazi (yeah yeah, indefinite hiatus, suuuure)
Led Zeppelin, but I'm torn on that one, because LZ without Bonham really wouldn't be LZ, so I feel like they had no other choice, and I'm really not too interested in an LZ without JB.

R.E.M. and The Black Crowes immediately come to mind. The Eagles too might be done following Glenn Frey's death.

The way R.E.M bowed out was really dignified. They have a superb back catalogue to enjoy and I dont think they could have given anymore, they made so many great records that it was always going to be hard to make the next record live up to expectations.
