another "honor killing"

and Hillary wants to bring them here by the thousands........friggin great, I hope Trump wins !

Godfather.

KABUL, Afghanistan -- An Afghan man says his pregnant 14-year-old daughter was burned to death by her in-laws, the latest reported case of violence against women in the country.

Afghanistan faces serious human rights issues, including physical and sexual violence against women and so-called honor killings that often involve immolation.

The 45-year-old father, Mohammad Azam, said Monday he came to Kabul to seek justice for his daughter Zarah. He says she was tortured and set on fire by her husband's family last week. She died on Saturday.

He says her killing, which happened in a remote area of central Ghor province, was in revenge after he had eloped with a cousin of his daughter's husband.

Zarah's in-laws had allegedly reneged on a marriage deal with him and promised the cousin to another man.

Honor killings are not uncommon in Afghanistan or neighboring Pakistan -- both deeply conservative Muslim societies.

Azam came forward a day after the brother of slain Pakistani model Qandeel Baloch confessed to strangling her to death for "family honor" because she posted "shameful" pictures on Facebook.

Baloch, who had become a social media celebrity in recent months, stirred controversy by posting pictures online taken with a prominent Muslim cleric. She was found dead on Saturday at her family home in the central city of Multan.

Police arrested her brother, Waseem Azeem, and presented him before the media in Multan, where he confessed to killing her. He said people had taunted him over the photos and that he found the social embarrassment unbearable.

Nearly 1,000 women are murdered in Pakistan each year for violating conservative norms on love and marriage. The so-called "honor killings" are often carried out by family members.

Such killings are considered murder. But Islamic law in Pakistan allows a murder victim's family to pardon the killer, which often allows those convicted of honor killings to escape punishment.

Godfather, please read the linked article. Maybe it's time we look at and support those who are working to make changes to the kind of thinking that perpetrates these horrible actions and understand that this is a minority carrying out these acts, not the majority. I would rather see places like Pakistan implement change in their own country rather than have everyone there seek political asylum here but I would also rather see 1,000 Pakistani women move here in order to survive than to have one Trump in office.

It's worth noting that honor killings are not actually a part of the religion of Islam, they are a cultural custom that predates the prophet.

Well you're in luck then, because these are values that won't be coming to America...

That said, while fictional, your namesake was an immigrant who came to American with some shaky values...

awesome read ! women only allowed to migrate to America from Pakistan ? that's going to cause more deaths than the current numbers, they will be killed at air ports, in their homes or in town just because they are suspected of wanting to leave and all in the name of "family honor"

Its clear you missed thw salient pints of the previous post....

    1. Honor killings are not actually a part of Islam
    2. Honor killings are a regional cultural aberration that has been occurring for way longer than Islam has been a religion.

Know your facts before making accusations and hateful comments.

And NO I am not defending honor killings but your extremely high level of fear, hate, and ignorance clearly blinds you to the truth.

Just figuratively speaking, GF. Like I say, I'd rather see support for those who are trying to make some positive changes in that culture. You might want to check out some of Henry Rollins writing about the middle east. He spent time there and gives a better perspective about the people there. Our media paints a picture that make ALL of them look evil. That's just not so. And check out the band Acrassicauda, a heavy metal band from Baghdad that struggled to have the freedom to play their music. There are many people in the Arab nations who are trying to make positive changes just as there are her in the west. Instead of simple labeling Arab peoples as all evil and writing off the entire culture, let's be more supportive of the majority of people there who are just like you and me- just trying to get by and live their lives.

Impossible to separate aberrant cultural practices with kooky religious beliefs, apparently.

Okay, so honor killings do not represent Islam. But if there is any group that follows their religion "religiously" at this point, it is Muslims. So somehow, honor killings and Islam have co-existed for hundreds of years without issue apparently.

Okie doke here is some more meaningless babble for you.....

Most historians believe that Islam originated in Mecca and Medina at the start of the 7th century.

The origin of honor killings and the control of women is evidenced throughout history in the culture and tradition of many regions. The Roman law of pater familias gave complete control to the men of the family over both their children and wives. Under these laws, the lives of children and wives were at the discretion of the men in their family. Ancient Roman Law also justified honor killings by stating that women found guilty of adultery could be killed by their husbands. Among the Ching dynasty in China, fathers and husbands had the right to kill females deemed to have dishonoured them.

Do the very simple math....both the Roman empire and the Ching Dynasty were around long before Islam was started.

    Also...
Catholicism and christianity both came about in the Roman Empire which was practicing honor killings long before there was Islam.

That may have once been the case but the cultural custom and the religion have now become intertwined.

Qandeel Baloch's brother has admitted to the religious aspect of this. You can say Islam has nothing to with it all you want but the believers do not agree with you anymore. That might be hard to accept but it's fact.

Let's assume you're using rational if-this-then-that logical deductions, to come to your conclusions and proposed actions.

Godfather's rationalization for the deportation of all Muslims, and the ban of further Muslim immigrants:
Premise 1: Casualties are caused by terrorists
Premise 2: Many or most terrorists are of the Muslim faith (even though the percentage of Muslims who are terrorists is low)
Premise 3: A good proportion of American Muslims have lived in America for most of or all of their lives, but even these people have been indoctrinated to hate by inherent culture-driven hatred
Conclusion: All Muslims living in America should be deported, and no further Muslims should be permitted to immigrate to America

Now, Ben's rationalization for the deportation of all men, and the ban of further male immigrants:
Premise 1: Casualties are caused by terrorists
Premise 2: Many or most terrorists are male (even though the percentage of men who are terrorists is low)
Premise 3: A good proportion of American men have lived in America for most of or all of their lives, but even these people have been indoctrinated to hate by inherent culture-driven hatred
Conclusion: All men living in America should be deported, and no further men should be permitted to immigrate to America

Am I missing something, or is it true that based on Godfather's own logic, he doesn't have any more or less right to live freely in America than a Muslim?

"trusting islamist has ruined the lives of thousands of Americans in short amount of time already"
    ahhhhh o.k.
911, San Bernardino, Boston, Nice, France etc. etc. etc. who else straps on a body bomb and walks into a crowded public area, for crying out loud they strap very young kid's up with bombs and send them into crowded areas.
just say'n it's become to risky to trust a group of people that have caused so much death and disaster.

    Godfather.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAH........geeeze ! why don't you take a vacation out in Afghanistan or Iraq and mingle with the locals and enjoy their customs I'm sure they'd love to meet you and your western ways......LOL !

    Godfather.

I for one would love to vacation in Afghanistan and/or Iraq.
They got some seriously awesome climbing routes and mountaineering areas.
Food is really good as well

  • Makes me sick to my stomach.

Tortured and set on fire. Way to to f**kface. F**king pig. F**king subhuman mutant.

Islamic law says the victim's family can pardon the killer? So in other words... "Hey. If you're okay with it can we just move on? Are you down with this? She was just a lowly female."

Sounds about right though. People around here talk about how shitty it is to 'seek revenge' (when people are seeking justice... is there a difference?).

What's done is done. Move on, eh? Sure. Just don't torture and burn to death any more women though. Okay? Okay.

    Why the frustration?
Remember this fiasco here a few years ago? http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2011/03/14/17610021.html

For all the americans here and TB our new happy days prime minister changed the word barbaric for some immigrants who come to feel at ease if they are offended at the word for their previous cultural practices.

I for one think barbaric should be in the guide for all those coming to Canada from places that do this evil.

The frustration is with GF actually, and anyone else who approves of this "ban them all" tactic, which is obviously just a symptom of bigotry. The way he (and so many people) feel this need to discriminate against an entire people because of the actions of the worst or most extreme among them. This is not the way to deal with such things. It's the way to make things worse. Why do people do this?? Is it just pure laziness? Is it just easier to lump them together and "blanket-discriminate" than it is to really stop and think about how to solve such issues in this world? To fight against the causes of such crimes and such ways of thinking? Or is it just simplemindedness?
