I had to get Philadelphia 2 poster even though I couldn't attend show. It's very beautiful and unique. I appreciate artistry in some of these posters

I had to buy the Bonnaroo poster. Was the first time I specifically bought a poster for a show that I didn't attend (not counting posters from the mystery box/mystery poster sales).

I really like the Roo poster. I didn't buy it simply because I have too many unframed already without adding a non-attended show, but I love the simplicity and wholesomeness of it. It's just hanging out in nature and music. Nothing could be better. I would have liked to show up at roo just for the poster. I really liked the Jazz Fest one too.
  • For the most part I now limit myself to shows I actually attend with a few exceptions: Posters that end up making a set (Cali 'Holy Trinity' 2000) and stunning pieces of art. For me there are 3 that stand out in that category: Pittsburgh '13, Charlotte '96 and EMEK's Ben Harper poster for Sasquatch Music Festival '06.

But art is art...if you love it...buy it and then hang it...

I don't get to go to a bunch of shows, so of course I get posters for shows I didn't attend... Or I would only have like 5 posters.

I probably have more posters from shows I DIDN'T attend that those I did...

This... that's my problem. I have a third floor that is all framed posters. These days, I use the same frame structures so I can just rotate them. I have far more framed posters than wall space.. first world problems.

Certainly not, buy whatever you want. I stick to the shows I've attended but that's just my personal choice.

I frame myself. Bought a mat cutter from Michaels with a half off coupon. Each job costs me about 60 bucks which usually includes one premium mat.

I bought the 2 NYC posters from the shows I was at, but I also bought a Miami poster because the Mermaid was supercool. I believe that may be the first poster I ever bought from a show I wasn't at.

The NSA is always looking for people who go to EBay purchasing posters to shows they did not attend. Edward Snowden elaborated in his documentary this taboo was their top priority.

    Be careful out there.

That's a flat file, so, I would have to say, it's safe to assume he stores them flat, not rolled.

I would NEVER store a poster in a tube...
and I have a TON of tubes!!

    image

I only use tubes to protect my posters when traveling,
from the venue to my home or from my home to the Framing Center.
My posters come out of the tube as soon as I get home and are stored in my flat file!!

What is the long term negative effect? I have about 10 in tubes now just because I accumulated so many recently and can't find the time to frame. I get why it would be better to be flat, but how are they damaged being rolled?
  • deadendpdeadendp Posts: 10,434
I can tell you that you have your poster locked up into an aciditic tube. By taking it out of the tube, having it in a flat file and layering acid free paper in between, less damage is done to the posters.

That makes sense but isn't that a long term issue? If I plan to frame in the next 12 months, do you think acidic damage can be done?

My philosophy is better safe than sorry. I think how much keeping it in a tube for a year ruins it probably depends on the humidity and probably the paper of the poster itself. I personally wouldn't risk it. I just got a flat portfolio with a handle. I can carry the whole thing to the framers and not worry about tubes for transport.

I had a few but slowly phased them out when the shows I was attending took over. I have 3 left that I wasn't at but I like them.
In the last few years I've had 2 kids so my son's bedroom has a full wall of PJ posters. As he gets older I'm expecting they will have to come down so I'll have to find somewhere else for them.
