I think we need to be really clear. ...flipping is not just for cash. It can also be for trade. So the growing problem here is people are buying anything in the hope it would be limited or highly sort after (typically the same) to upgrade as such. Whilst people that really want it miss out.

That guy on the other thread wanting something else for the Lexington poster....i don't care the worth of the thing u r seeking. U r doing it within minutes of the poster selling out. Obviously not wanting the Lexington at all. Blows alright

7 up on ebay just listed

can't be that hard I'm sure to query against the orders and city location and see if they match any of the 7 listed on ebay LOL
It's frustrating, but impossible to track.

Could have been posters from the show, could have different emails or names, may not have locations listed......

Lets get back to RANDOM drops.
They should drop MSG1, Philly2 or Toronto2 next.... everyone is expecting Philly1 and no one likes it... so less flippers will be on.

When did this shit get crazy? i never remember seeing this type of madness over posters until Missoula. I only buy posters from shows I attend but before that it was never hard to get a poster (except maybe '98).

When someone can buy a poster for $35 and flip it for $100+.
I honestly think Wrigley '13 was the beginning.

The poster craze seemed to die down in 2005/2006 time frame. Most of the 2013 and 2014 posters were available on this site for many months which was consistent with prior tours where the 3-4 top tier posters sold out and maybe NYC/Boston/Philly, but the rest of the posters sat for a long time. Maybe the poster quality is better or the band is more popular, but it seems like for this tour the posters are flying off the shelf.

Nope, they knew it would go really fast, and if they went FTL first I think they knew that it would be crazy for the next one.

Kinda like now...after Philly 1 drops.... the sharks will be in the water for the Philly 2 drop.

Maybe. I remember getting in like at 12:30 pm in Pittsburgh 2013 though and only being about 25-30 people back. That's an average 9 am now. I also remember them having ample posters inside of the 2013 LA and San Diego shows. I walked right up and got one.

I think it was more 2014 tour that started the madness.

Yeah. The line up issue definitely took off with Wrigley but the random drop times happened at least back to 03. Don't recall 2000.

On a certain level, part of the desire of collecting is having something sought after, rare and valuable. The natural effect of collecting is a secondary market of traders and flippers. It absolutely stinks that people buy for the sole purpose of flipping, but if they printed a Lexington poster for everyone that wants one now, I guarantee there would be a bunch of posters left from that show. All of a sudden, the demand would die down. The GCF Transformer poster is a perfect example of this. When they first came out, the majority posted how childish and stupid they were. And then, once the hysteria set in, the poster magically grew on people. I'm not a psychologist but it wasn't the artwork that grew on people, it was the demand. You still can't find one for under $150.

At least the poster sale has yet to launch any "goodbye ten club" posts. Though we still have Philly and MSG posters yet to drop.

pretty much agree with this (although I still think the Transformers print is really dumb, a product of its own hype). It is kind of a necessary evil. Prints now are really at their best. We have a large number of great artists willing to do a poster, knowing that they will make a tidy profit. It is better than the simple/repetitive Klausen/Ames rotation (all due respect, I still love both artists). The demand for the prints fuels a good amount of the creativity.

I dont like it, dont like the 'need' to wait at the venue for 4 hours for a poster or refresh the site for a month waiting for drops.... but maybe its a necessary evil?

Scarcity also means that these prints will/may hold value over the long run too.

Some of us don't care about the value though. We just want a souvenir from a show we went to in a different city. I have the Dallas '98 and it doesn't mean any more to me because its valuable simce I don't plan on ever selling it. I honestly don't know the value of most of the posters I hang because it doesn't change my appreciation of the art.

I agree and collect the same way. If I like the poster I buy it. If I don't like the art, I pass. I had a chance to get a Columbia yesterday but I wasn't crazy about it so I passed. I could have bought it just to flip and get something I wanted with it, but it just feels wrong doing that. Hopefully me passing on it allowed someone who really wanted it to get it (though I doubt it. It's probably on EBay right now).

Sure was, you had everyone and their brother waiting for Lexington this morning. No one had a idea Miami was going to be dropping.
