What the fuck is this shit?

The band really should start focusing on just rocking out and not feed the greedy pick- and tambourine-vultures up front. It's fucking disturbing being up front to Mike as it is with all 10clubbers stop caring about the music and throwing their hands out like pick-beggers every time he steps forward. The escalation of throwing out stuff from the band is the wrong way to go IMO.

My. Fucking. God.

Using their kids as tools in order to get gear from the band. Not cool.

Right on. I saw this from the other end of the venue and actually thought this must be a joke. Apparently it was not.

It also kinda wrecks the last song of the night - is there a separate semi trailer to haul around all the extra tambourines?
  • MayDay10MayDay10 Posts: 11,680
back not too many years ago, he would actually use tambourines, smash them apart and toss them into the crowd not caring what happens to it.

Now its a whole cheesy thing. He just gets tambos and gives them directly to people, usually people propping their kids up. To be honest, Im not sure I would even want one at this point.

The Rolling Stoning of PJ continues.

Stop catering to the fans and breed this greed.

Just rock out instead. Catering to fans, throwing out non-used tambourines, handfull of picks, swinging on special designed lights and jolly-good-shit are for bands where the rock is dead. Haha.

I don't get the tambourine thing. They're like $15 at Guitar Center.

    Picks are even less.

Pearl Jam shouldn't be kid-friendly. Not their shows, not their music, not any of it. Unpopular view, I know, but rock concerts are no place for kids and bands shouldn't cater to them. That's why Chuck E Cheese was invented.

Maybe you guys go to too many shows?

The fella in of me last night got one from Eddie (this was after Eddie jumped off stage, ran to him, and gave a huge hug.) It made the man's night, shit, it probably made his year.

It takes about 60-120 seconds of the entire 3 hr show (and the band is rocking it in the background.)

    I agree.

If people want to bring kids, cool. Have a seat and rock out.

But stop making the concert into some family-time event where everyone gets a tambourine. Stop turning into an amusement park visit.

I dont know if it is from my new-found ability to watch shows on periscope and youtube... But various things they do just seems scripted now instead of spontaneous.

The tambourine thing. Eddie throwing the mic out during the last chorus of even flow. Going out into the crowd for Porch (every show). Mike's going into the crowd at the same moments... etc.

I'm fine with it, I'm not fine with people making their kids stand around all day then be up front for GA when the kid has no desire to be there. There was a kid in Ottawa sitting down on the floor for the last few songs in GA, ppl still pointing at him when ed was throwing out tambourines...
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

I thought about bringing my 3 year old yesterday as it was the only chance I had to attend. Realized it was a terrible idea.

Kids shouldn't be allowed in GA. No reason for them to be there, if not for selfish parents. The GA would be a better place without having to worry about kids.

They have as much fun on their "first concert" up in a seat.

Exactly. I'm not sure what the story is, so I'm hoping that something pops up on the boards today. I did hear him saying that he's been coming to shows for 20 years, it was his ~30 show so my guess is that Eddie recognized him. But it seemed a little more than that given Eddie's genuine hug.

They're fine there... but pull them to the very back of GA so they are out of the fray.

Placing them on your shoulders or maneuvering them into the mix is a selfish move- expecting everyone else to alter their concert experience to be mindful of a child.

I walk the walk. I have brought my son to several shows and I am the one who was on alert and mindful of others: he is my responsibility... not other's.

If parents are taking advantage of their kids to get a tambourine, that's disgusting. If they are helping their kids get a cool souvenir from their first show, all to them.

What worse was in section 118/119 last night, Ed threw a tambourine to someone. The guy caught it, and then this 400 pound fat guy grabs the tambourine and tackles the guy to get the tambourine, then tackles his wife/girlfriend/just someone else (not sure, I was on the other side of the arena). He takes the tambourine triumphant and bangs it for the rest of the show. Stone shakes his head in frustration.

If anything, that's why Ed should quit with the tambourines.
