Most Canadian Gen Xers love the Hip (plus many from other generations) and know how amazing they are. But no band is loved by everyone. Lucky for me, I love love love them. And i think a Hip ballad would be amazing for PJ to cover. I agree that Wheat Kings would be particularly perfect. But there are some rockers that PJ could easily pull off too. I think they could really kill several Hip covers.
I just started listening to these guys this week and I'm definitely a new fan! They've got a lot of catalog and I'm working my way through it day by day.
So many great tunes.  The earlier albums are their best work.  I came to the Hip very late - just a few years ago, and never saw them live.  Us that were at Wrigley 1 in 2016 remember that EV gave them a shout out from the stage that night as their final show in Kingston was being played as we were watching PJ.
I missed Wrigley to be at that show in Kingston. Man, what a special night that was. Still can't bring myself to go back and re-watch the concert.
I was there, too, and I've never made it through the broadcast. But what a magical night.

  • I thought a PJ cover of the Hip was possible and was hoping for it until Neil Peart shockingly passed away last week. I would highly expect at a minimum for Ed to say some very kind words about both of these important and influential artists.  In the unlikely event a cover or tag is done it would probably be Rush with the news being so recent.
Then again... I’ve been wrong many many many times in my life.
Mike and Matt did a brief Rush jam at Toronto 2 in 2016 - Geddy Lee was side stage.

Gord's birthday today :-(  If they did a Hip cover I would vote for Little Bones.  Just seems like a natural fit.  Would love a Neil Peart shutout in Toronto... they already said they can't play Rush songs ;)

If they can't cover a whole song maybe jam a timbit of their work on a Daughter tag. Would be pretty cool.

I think they would absolutely kill Grace, Too...
both bands are 5 pieces with twin guitar and I just imagine Eddie nailing the

    I come from downtown
    Born ready for you
    Armed with will and determination
    And grace, too...

It's a slow builder and very emotional something I think PJ has perfected over the years.

Read that and thought of my kids jamming a timbit somewhere they’re not supposed to.

I think the word you’re looking for is tidbit.

  • Would you rather this or a less common PJ song?  I would rather hear PJ.   You can go to a bar to hear a cover band.

  • OK I was thinking, how about New Orleans is Sinking?  That would be a fun one... if Ed needs help, I volunteer to come up from GA to stage and help sing it like he did in Saskatoon with Brian!  I will wear my Hip jersey so Ed will know who I am... worth a shot in case the band reads this ;)

Never thought about the boys doing Grace, Too.  A pocket for everyone, and Jeff would make the place shake!
