Set List

Walk On Music: It Happened Today-R.E.M. 8:20
Band On Stage:08:22
Band Off Stage:11:11
(Ed is wearing an “Every Mother Counts” t-shirt. Today is Mother’s Day)

01. Lightning Bolt
02. Mind Your Manners
03. Do The Evolution
04. Save You
(Ed greets the audience. He claims that they are right on schedule of every five years. He isn’t sure how long it will be until they get back so they want to make the most of the night. Ed comments that coming to Canada from America where we have Donald Trump running for President feels like the end of the world. And he promises to talk about it more later but those fires in Alberta also seem like the end of the world. But what is really the end of the world is Canada doesn’t have a hockey team in the playoffs.)

05. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
06. Love Boat Captain (intro jam)
07. Deep
08. Faithfull (Ed tosses the mic to some folks on the barricade that help sing the last chorus)

(We’ve been watching intently about what is going on down in Fort McMurray, down in Alberta and hopefully some of this weather coming might help with the situation. He goes on to talk about deeply emotional situations and is interrupted by a man who professes love for Ed. Ed asks if that is his old boyfriend Tim, Tim Horton from Ottawa. Ed gets sidetracked for a bit but goes back to discussing the idea that unless you are suffering a real tragedy like those in Alberta and someone ask how you are you should say you are great. The next song is about realizing that sometimes things are actually good.)

09. I Am Mine
10. Even Flow

(Ed introduces Matt and Mike and figures that they had mothers. In fact almost everyone has a mother and if you have one you should love her because they are pretty great. “Most of us have great moms and some of us have good dads, not all of us, but the grand dame of them all was Matt Cameron’s Mother (grand mother?) Ed also points out author John Krakauer. Who has written books like “Into Thin Air” and “Under The Banner Of Heaven” and the book that changed Ed’s life, “Into The Wild”. Krakauer is lit up by Kille and shown on the video screens. The next song is from the sound track “Into Thin Air”

11. Setting Forth
12. Corduroy
13. Immortality (with intro)
14. Given To Fly (“this is for a beautiful girl Yvonne”)

(“How about that Stone Gossard right there? This is for all the surfers out there. I know there at least two.”)

15. Big Wave
16. Why Go
17. Jeremy
18. Porch

Encore Break One
(Ed and Jeff come out. Ed says the next song reminds him of wine so he is going to have some. He swears on his passport that this might be the best sounding building on the tour “and we are getting near the end.“ Ed toasts the local crew and the audience. Jeff takes the wine and has a very long pull. Ed observes that the technical virtuosity may have gone down a bit on stage after that but it is probably a good thing. Ed’s brothers are here and he toasts as well. “Do you know how many wrong notes those guys had to listen to while we were growing up.” One of Ed’s brothers tells him about a possibly misheard news story of the theft of five million bees. “So if you hear a buzzing call the cops.” “On mother’s day I think this is what a great mom would tell her little girl. It is called Bee Girl.”)

19. Bee Girl-(Jeff & Ed)

(“We are gonna try this one. We haven’t been playing it but I think this room sounds okay and we are gonna be able to get away with it.”)

20. Speed Of Sound
21. Parachutes
22. Sirens (with sing along outro)
23. Love, Reign O’re Me-(Townshend)
24. Better Man/Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling)
25. Blood/Atomic Dog-(Clinton, Shider, Spradley) (repeats bow wow part twice 10 seconds max)

Encore Break Two

26. All I Want Is You-(U2, Bono) (Ed plays acoustic guitar and sings first verse only)
27. Wasted Reprise (before singing the lyrics Ed talks about being thankful)
28. Life Wasted
29. Black
30. Alive
31. Fuckin’ Up-(Neil Young)

Awesome show, Mike was on fire as usual!
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Terrific show. Was able to knock off several songs that I hadn't heard. I thought that the crowd was really good tonight, and I wasn't expecting that for a Sunday night at a show that wasn't sold out. But it was contagious. Nice to see Ed and the boys appreciate the crowd efforts. Highlights include a couple of great covers: Love Reign Over Me, and Fuckin'Up, along with the U2 tease. Glad to hear Blood. Thank you PJ. You always bring such energy and passion to the stage.

So many rare songs. They always bring that to Canada. Cool that this brothers were there as well. Best live version of Corduroy I've ever heard.

Killer show tonite. I have seen PJ four times and this was the best show.
  • Mike started to play Superunknown at one of the encores! !!!
He who forgets will be destined to remember
  • Wow, what a show, I am still so excited and almost overwhelmed by it!
To me it was a wonderful, great set list right from the beginning, starting with Lightning Bolt for that special day, followed by mind your manners and Evolution – wow!
Furthermore, there were also so perfect fitting statements and speeches in between for that special night. Uhh and thanks again for this wonderful set list… couldn’t have wished for anything better or more, coming all the way from Europe to Canada to join the end of the tour on last minute.
But soo great – oh man, and I really really do love Speed of Sound –
and to get on top of it: combined with Setting Forth and Love Boat Captain – Wow 

OH and Love Reign over me or here was sooo great to hear as well - and it was also very special for me to hear the full version of save it for later… uhhh there are so many more highlights… so many more just happy moments! - and the Sound was really stunning and hey, yes, perfect :)

So thank you Pearl Jam and Ottawa/ Canada for this wonderful evening full of joy and happiness and a great choice of Songs and sing alongs!
... and so, Pearl Jam did (again) what they promised for tonight: to give much much input on the great side of life - or better say: just make the world nicer …
… sorry I don’t remember how the exact words were spoken, but the meaning was some sort of that. And hey hey, they definitely do make a difference! 

    So Thanks sooo much and
    VIVA Pearl Jam !!!

And: a big big thanks also to Sea for the early Set list set up here !!!
there is no way to peace, peace is the way!
...the world is come undone, I like to change it everyday but change don't come at once, it's a wave, building before it breaks.

Amazing show!!! Was standing at the rail on Stone's side and at the end of Porch, Mike came over to our side got down on a lower riser(?) and played the last bit of the song in front of us. I reached out to try to get a high five but he instead pointed his guitar in my direction and I was able to strum the strings before he left.... My new claim to fame!!!

Played two songs that have been rattling around my head this week (Faithfull and Given to Fly... well they would have played GTF anyway). Finally heard Jeremy live and that's where I blew out my voice. Still on a PJ high and too wired for sleep right now. Will try to get a couple of pics up later.

Thanks Ten Club for awesome GA tickets!!!

Big Wave! That song rocks live! They should play it more often. This show was solid! That blows if they scratched Green Disease off the setlist. Play it in Toronto.

Best song of the night for me was Blood! Reign O'er Me was flawless I thought, and it was great to here Fuckin' Up instead of the regular Rockin' In The Free World. I Am Mine, Immortality, and Deep were great to hear. Energy may have been the best I have ever seen, Crowd was ON and the band loved it. High energy from the band from beginning to end. Can't wait for the boot.

One complaint - we met a fan in a wheelchair that had been seated behind standing room only. That's shitty as all she saw the whole night were others backs. I think the venue could have done better in seating this person.

I heard him play something at the end of Blood but couldn't place it. It was only for like 3 seconds. Cool though.
  • Amazing show! First GA tickets for me and we were maybe 6-7 rows back, centre. Surrounded by lovely people from different parts of Ontario, New York state and all walks but brought together by the band.

Highlight for me was definitely Love, Reign O'r Me and being able hear that live. Great energy from the crowd and the band really fed off it (Sunday night shows in Ottawa can be mediocre in a characteristically sleepy city, so was pleased about that).

Eddie's brothers and Jon Krakauer were in attendance and got a shout out.

Apparently this was their 1,000th show but no mention of it.
Have you ideas on how this life ends?

Another great show and experience to add to my list.

Showed up to the pit just before 8:00 and we were still in an amazing spot with an amazing view.

I thought the Ottawa crowd tonight was awesome and the band knew it and could feel it . . . . much, much, much better than 2011! You made me proud tonight, Ottawa!

A great mixed set, with old and new. A few highlights for me were:

Hearing Deep for the first time in person!
Mikey's rail side behind the back solo during Even Flow
    Immortality
Corduroy tonight was fantastic with a neat little breakdown in the middle before exploding into the usual ending
A solid, moving version of Black with another soul infusing solo by Mike
Alive into Fuckin Up to end was great . . . . Two extended versions that seemed to go on forever with Eddie and Mike interacting with every inch of the crowd during both songs - guy right next to us got a tambourine thrown to him and everyone giving him high 5's..... Great sense of community!

And for those wondering about the pit situation etc., we showed up, as mentioned, just before 8:00 and still had one of the best views in the house. We were maybe 20 people deep from the between Ed and Jeff's mic stands. We were able to move up to about 10 people deep after the first encore as well and enjoy the remainder of the show from even closer (beside people who had gone in when the doors opened and stood in the pit for two hours). There is lots of space in there . . . Not like back in the day when you could barely move you feet or arms. Times have certainly changed! All that to say, unless you really NEED to be rail, or even 2-5 people deep in the pit, don't stress it.... Enjoy some drinks/time doing other things before the show..... Show up 20-30 minutes before showtime and you will still have one of the best views in the house and the best times of your life. You'll still be well within a distance from the stage where you feel super connected to the band. Take that for what it's worth, but don't put yourself through unneeded stress if you don't need to!

Thanks for another great hometown show, Pearl Jam! Cannot wait till next time. Hope it's not as long! Wish I was doing Toronto II still, but with the date change we had to bail..... Too bad, as i feel like I need another PJ hit! Enjoy the rest of the tour for all you lucky ones!
