Now that the Cubs have won, I think all PJ fans want them to lose now to avoid post season "I am not touring" from Ed.

    Maybe it's just me

Selfishly, I'm glad they aren't touring this year. I have a wedding planned for September and we just yesterday put an offer in on a bigger house. But if they did tour, I know I'd still catch a few shows...
My fiancé's sister is getting married in September, I think we're aiming for our wedding to be in 2018 out of respect but we have a move coming up into a rental house for 6 months while we look for a house to buy. We have a busy roster of adult stuff coming up BUT luckily my fiancé loves Pearl Jam too so it'll take little to no convincing to get her on board with seeing them, even if we have to do what it takes to make it work. She loves to travel and we've discussed leaving the Midwest to see them play out east or west, so we'll see what happens when it happens.

When is the line-up for the Bridge School Benefit announced?? I wouldn't be surprised to see either a Pearl Jam or Eddie solo show there this year!
If Bridge School was their only show this year the demand would be huge. Everyone who is tracking a Pearl Jam concert streak will be buying tickets. My streak dates back to 2003.
Did that in 2011 when DMB announced their "year off", went to Bridge School to see Dave.  Streak alive since 1998!

I would see it as unlikely.   I could see a one off, but not a whole leg of a tour.   PJ likes to tour in small doses and they seem to like to maximize revenue and play for as many people as they can with the fewest # of actual shows.    If they're going to spend a month on the road they don't seem like the kind of guys to do it as the opening band.   Besides, they'd just make u2 look bad :)

I don't think the U2 could happen given EV solo festival appearances in Sept. and anyways PJ wouldn't be an opening act for anyone.  As for JLA in August it continues to be possible but seems less and less likely as they usually announce three months prior.  It's looking a lot like we will have to wait for 2018 at this point.

I probably wouldn't go if they were the opening band. I remember them opening for Petty in 2006 and was bummed each night after their 80 minutes were up. One night I left right after because how do you follow Pearl Jam?

After seeing what the JT tour looks like looking bad is not plausible. U2 fan or not they are very good live and the visuals are on another level. Of course I think PJ is a better band but these things are subjective, no?
