Ocean fishing is the best.  (As long as I have something to hold off the barfing.)

My all time favorite fish to target was stripers. Biggest ever was right around 41 pounds on a snag and drop maybe 100 yards offshore from where pj played in asbury park.
I also loved fishing for fluke, sea bass, weakfish and flounder (cold!).   Blue fish are fun but become annoying after awhile.
On a typical day you could lose count on the number of sand sharks, sea robins and skate you caught.
I never venture far enough off shore to target tuna or sailfish.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

That's cool. Awesome catch. I was once right off by seaside pier with my bro. Jetstar right there. There were bunker fins surfacing as far as I could see. Did the old snag and drop. No takers, but what a cool thing to see and do. Sure there were some stuffed stripers right below us. Love a good fish story almost as much as being there.

Tried for walleye in the Delaware from the shore for a good 4 hours. Was about to leave. Rainy icy cold. Another dude shows up so I kept fishing. Watching what he was doing. We were fishing similarly. He was across the tributary so I couldn't ask if he was after the same fish.
New to this so just putting in my time. The river will give up what she wants when she wants.
I also read somewhere that God doesn't count time fishing against your time on earth. Some sh.t like that.

    Fish on

What part of the Delaware do you fish? I spent a lot of time fishing up and down from Dingman's Ferry and around the Gap.

    @runstaples
Would enjoy any fish stories. Pictures or not. Finally went out local today. Stalked some wild brook trout i a tiny spring fed stream.

    Very skittish. Caught a minnow.
then hit a bigger stream and got that brown. Bead head nymph thing I tied. Not awesome fly tier but can get the job done.
Took a long hike and enjoyed every second.

Always looking for tips on crappie fishing. Us there a fall bite, haven't caught one of them in ages. Want to try to eat some.

Just some fish we’ve caught since Covid 2020 when we practically lived like pirates on the high seas.. gave a few of us something to do than be locked up… I gotta look for my pre 2020 pics, some crazy catches as well

the mako was eaten, white cut loose, juvenile… it’s great to have safe/ successful trips, lot of work… sun beats on you, but the bonding is fun and memorable

also great tunes, prosciutto / oysters/ wine/beer… when you get 5/6 dudes that are up for it it’s memories for life

ive got some crazy videos of dolphin pods all over before Tuna hits us on the troll

whales breaching feet away… 100-150 miles into the Atlantic is so peaceful and really see the beauty of this planet

Woah. Thanks for sharing. How do you keep from feeling seasick? Any tricks or do you just get used to it. Also if you can't get out, try watching ''fishing with John' if you never did.

I grew up on the Adriatic Sea when I was 8-17, every summer I’d be there for 3 months before school started, lived on the water…. Scampi, tuna, local fish, spear fishing, also been years after… haven’t in a while…. I’ve lived on Long Island my whole life, been on boats and swimming since I was a toddler… doesn’t bother me. Sometimes the ocean is like glass and you can fly out… other times it’s a lil jarring, slamming thru an inlet during a storm sucks in many ways.

Good stuff. Great stories. Keep them coming.
I'm east coast and really only experienced ocean fishing on party boats. Which was still fun. Just completely diff than above.
Went out on a couple small trips on my bros boat. We trolled in sight of a scallop boat and nailed some 'gator' blues and a couple dogfish (small sharks).
All those trips built memories that will live with me forever.
Anytime I can get my line in the water, by myself or with a friend, some magic happens.
    Even simply sharing a story.
    Great studf.

Sux, friends 36’ down an engine…. Yamahas suck so hard…. Have issues all the time. Might not get that 3-4 day trip this season, using 18’ tidewater in an around Huntington/Northport Long Island… not nearly as fun

hope it works out soon, would love a trip prior to the tour resuming in September, it’s a great way to gain perspective ….you guys see that giant basking shark shadow in one of the pics? Wanted to see if u can see, that was last month… I was on the water Friday am caught a few fluke
  • LoujoeLoujoe Posts: 9,759
Ok. See it now. Woah. The shadow part is its head? I see white too. Not sure if that's part of the shark too. Darn cool.

See now, I tried to use my finger to point it out better

so weird when something like that pops on the surface, large White years ago while I was checking my bait… had this feeling in my gut, it was magnificent but terrifying at same time

long trips at night your mind plays tricks on you, lack of sleep… you start seeing shit

    Yes!
    Triggered
    Another story.
Cape cod hanging on beach. A couple nailing stripers and blues silly. Me and bud go to his house to get rods.
Come back. Reels all f..ked up. (My excuse for not hooking up)
See a seal a solid 50' off the surf. Could have thrown a rock to it. Close enough. We were chatting about seeing orcas in Alaska from the beach staring into the surf.
Up cuts a massive dorsal fin following the elusive seal
    Jaw dropped.
Bud lives there (seasonally) and never saw one. Great White had to be 14' long.
This was over 10 years ago.
Swimmers were going way off the beach after we saw it. Tried to warn whomever we could.
    Really cool to see.

Good to see this thread! I am not a big saltwater fisherman and prefer flies to bait or spin gear, but I have some great smallmouth water near me and they crush the crankbaits when I can find the fish. My 2 kids have put a damper on my fishing in the last ten years and I rarely take photos, but I still get out 5-6 times a season. Mostly fly fishing for trout in small tailwater streams fed by reservoirs. Slow fishing but I need to just get out there. Keep them coming and tight lines!

Nice doormat of a fluke!  Sea Bass yum. You guys got your tuna license for the boat or individuals? That White looks young, 8ft or so?  The one fish I can't place was maybe a sword?

My buddy does the Tuna now off the sound in 70' of water.  Crazy that they are this close to us now.

Good stuff.  Wheres the striper and blues pics, lol!

Some shorts?  This must be an old pic when you could grab smaller Stripers.  They've changed the laws so much over the years.

You ever do the Threshers?  We have a bunch on the south Shore.

Good stuff my man.  Post more pics!!!!

So over the years some oddball fish I have caught were a Spanish Mackerel and Spiny Skate.  Did not expect to pull those up...

Yea older, don’t do too much stripper fishin anymore, was looking in my phone when you mentioned them

my buddy lost 200-250lb estimate thresher yesterday in moriches inlet on a fuckin fluke lure, went under the boat… it breached, couldn’t get clear pic

ive Caught a few over the years… set up the balloons on the surface, have a few beers & wait
