I know hating on the merch line is fun, but I've got a genuine question.

If you go in when doors open to get to the merch table inside, that's about 3 hours before the show actually starts isn't it? So if you are lined up to get in when doors open, but your tickets are seats, you end up spending roughly the same amount of time waiting for the show to start that you would have spent waiting in the merch line if you got there early & waited, but you are now trapped inside the venue and you've got to mind your purchases all night so they don't get damaged, lost, or stolen.

Am I missing something here? I'm not quite seeing exactly what the difference is that makes getting stuff inside so much better. Personally I'd be happy as a pig in poop if I could rock up to the venue at 8pm & get myself the merch I want, but we all know that just doesn't happen anymore. I feel like I'd rather waste a few hours in the morning, then go home put stuff away & nap.

that's what I was wondering. I want a hat, tshirt and possibly hoody, but I don't want to wait inside the venue for 3 hours. It just seems with all the demand for merch, that they would have multiple vendors open during the day to accommodate more people. I have to imagine they lose out on sales because many people aren't willing to wait in line all day or carry around goodies for the duration of the show.

For me personally I would rather enjoy my day at the beach/attractions then have an early supper and head to the show. The other way you are making your day a lot more centered around the concert.

How you figure? I'm sort of seeing it like an errand in the morning before going out in the evening.

I get it if you're traveling to a place you wanna be a tourist in. Especially if you're talking about the beach and you're short on time.

I guess I'm just averse to spending six hours inside an arena. Not judging those who prefer it, just wanted to try to understand the difference.

I still dont get the merch craze...sure a poster of the show I actually attended would be cool, but I dont need every poster from the tour..when I see the line before the trailer even opens..yikes!!
I guess the trading of stickers and pins is an addiction of some sort but kinda blows when people from across the world get the last pair of large flip-flops!!!

I kid...but a poster and sticker would be cool..to go with the only other poster I have..from the only other PJ show Ive seen..peace..

I'm not into posters or stickers, not that there is anything wrong with that, I just want a hat and a tour tshirt. Just don't want to risk that stuff being gone after the show.

I went upstairs both nights when the doors opened. There were zero lines and we got everything we wanted (sticker/poster/shirts). Don't wait outside for hours!!

    :lucky: hi! Safe travels!
Oh please let it rain today.

While I personally have no interest in waiting 2-3 hours for either the merch truck or for the show to start inside after buying merch, this is an excellent point. At least by choosing to wait in the line outside you can still tailgate and put the stuff in your car instead of sitting in the arena with $12 beers being bored for hours and hoping someone doesn't accidentally ruin your poster.

Lets just be happy that there is both options and people can do what suits their day the best. I wasn't knocking the other way but for me with Fenway at least I am going to arrive at 5:00 at the park and take it all in. Now I have never been to Fenway so that plays a part in it too.

Yea again, I'm not knocking it either just trying to understand the difference.

Gotta say too checking the merch stand for other bands is so much easier than PJ. Foo @ Citifield last year in particular made me think we're all nuts

Whoa, PJ flip flops!? Are they nice, or just cheap rubber things?

Are there high quality flip flops?
Yes, of course. Like leather or fabric tops and there are all kind of high quality options for the sole.
But i see now the PJ ones are indeed just cheap crappy plastic things. :(

Yeah, those PJ type ones usually pull through the rubber pretty quickly. There is definitely a big difference between those types and The higher end ones. I'll still buy a pair though:)

I stopped being a merch junkie years ago but i remember the golden rule, bring cash, you're slowing it all down wit plastic

Not really. There were plenty of credit card machines. Unless someone had their cash counted out exactly, fumbling about with cash and having them fetch change wasn't exactly quick.

From what I've witnessed people deciding which size shirt to buy is what slows everything down. A poster only line or non wearable line would really speed things up for a lot of us.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.
