I was thinking in the lens of contemporary music, but yes, I like the Beatles as equally as Pearl Jam. That would be the only band though to match. (Radiohead up there).

no other bands even close... I like other bands, but I wouldn't travel long distances to see them or go to multiple shows on the same tour.

Pearl Jam and TOOL are my top 2...then Black Crowes...DMB...in no particular order.

Love the Black Crowes mention! Until their recent demise the Crowes were a close second as far as my passion for their music and total number of shows I've attended. Currently I'm at 36 shows and counting for PJ (39 if you count EV solo) and the Crowes were probably around 25+ shows. After those two bands I would say Ben Harper, Wilco and Lukas Nelson & POTR round out my top five artist.

I love many bands, but the question wasn't whether or not we love other bands, it was whether we love other bands as much. I will take days off from work and pay for flights and hotels without blinking for Pearl Jam. There's no other band/musician I do that with so therefore I don't think I can say I love another band as much.

Alice in Chains (with Layne) at the same time as Pearl Jam, as far as now there isn't anyone yet, but I've gotten into Nothing More (saw them open for Chevelle) which is an up and coming band that I would go see

Love seeing Ty Segall get some love here. Saw him 3 times so far, once from about two feet away from him.

The only thing I have in my ipod that even attempts to compete with PJ is Chicago. Only because my dad raised me right.

    Awesome Dave,
my buddy is a MMJ freak too. he won tix to the album release show in Lexington. I bet you guys have crossed paths without even knowing it.
and so cool with BOH too. I use to run into Tyler all the time in Asheville. quiet guy but really nice. tell him I said Hello when you see him again. I haven't run into him in years. he has played with everyone in the Asheville scene.

    Who else gonna be honest???

Phish is head and shoulders above everybody else with PJ being 2nd. For me its those 2 and Springsteen as the top 3 live acts of the last couple of decades.

PJ has always been number 1 for me...

That being said, I have traveled for several bands throughout my life in clusters (several shows on tours) many, many times. I have several bands I enjoy a great deal and have met and traveled to see, but I also think that they have time periods in their career that I really would be willing to get into the time machine for... Some of them I just kind of shut down after those time periods. I still go back to all of the live material and listen to it daily and weekly. With some of them the bands don't exist or they have changed styles or sounds or singers to where I just don't have the same passion for them anymore. With Pearl Jam it has always been a constant..

    Pearl Jam (ALWAYS!!!)
    Stone Temple Pilots (93 - 2002) (2008 -2009)
    Chris Cornell (Anytime)
    Jane's Addiction 90 - 2009

    Soundgarden 1992-1996 & Present Day
The Black Crowes 1990-1995 (Up to Amorica)

i was all black crowes from 95 to 05, some DMB in there
had a pretty strong pencilgrass obsession along the way there too
then i did The White Stripes for a few years - still feel they are the best live act of modern era.
and now, well, here i am, posting in a pearl jam forum counting down days to MSG and Fenway

When R.E.M. were active they were my "1B" behind Pearl Jam's "1A". The closest competitor now is Wilco but PJ is forever entrenched as my all-time #1.

fair enough but as an old person how do i simply dismiss what happened before PJ?
how do those old bands become less relevant as time goes on, just because they don't tour now.
PJ are a new band. they are touring right now. many of my fave bands aren't touring these days and if they were of course i would judge them with the same level of fandom as i do PJ now

My Morning Jacket is close as far as seeing live, but it is a tier down from PJ in terms of fanaticism. Nothing can match my craziness for PJ.

Rival Sons is getting close. I have traveled multiple times to see them and I can't see that slowing down. They kick ass and they keep putting out great music, next album is due in May. So excited I get a PJ tour and a Rival Sons album for my birthday.

I'm just as big a fan of Neil Young as I am of PJ. For a start, he's the only other artist that I have to buy everything on vinyl and cd! I've been a Neil fan for over 30 years, ever since my dad first played me After the Goldrush sometime in the early 80s, so he's been part of my life for longer than PJ.

My first Neil gig was also my first PJ gig (Finsbury Park 93), and my second Neil gig was Reading 95 with most of PJ on the Mirrorball tour so the 2 have always been connected.

Very, very, very close behind would be Mark Lanegan, Afghan Whigs (and all things Dulli), and R.E.M.
