As a founder of Pemby fest. Please don't take over this festival.
I don't want to spend my weekend waiting in merch lines.
I love PJ but would sooner have MMJ or Radiohead.

Pemby would be 20 hours closer than Telluride, and all in Canadian cash.

Hasn't pemberton struggled in the past and canceled several years?

You know what fixes that? Pearl Jam

Good luck guys, I hope this comes true

Naw, but I can see where you would have got that from. The initial Pemberton was in 2008 (NIN, Tom Petty, Coldplay (barf), JayZ, Death Cab, Vampire Weekend, etc...It was put on by Live Nation.

In 2009, Live Nation bailed out, so it was only a one time festival.

However, it was reincarnated in 2014 by HUKA Entertainment. So completely different festival, but same location. 2014 saw NIN, Soundgarden, Modest Mouse, Outkast, etc,,, 2015 was Kendrick and more of an EDM heavy lineup,

We'll see what 2016 brings, but I would expect it to be a big lineup!

Should be fun considering we are the only festival on the west coast other than Sun Fest which is country music.

It's not as big but we have Rock The Shores here in the Victoria area. It would be awesome if they ever scored PJ to play that, but its a medium/small sized festival (max capacity is only around 10k). That's a bit to small of a venue for PJ.

edit: you are right though.. festivals out here have dropped off. I miss the days of the Lollapalooza's in Vancouver. When they ended we got Edgefests, then an Ozzfest, but after the Ozzfest in '99 the Vancouver (rock) festivals seem to have stopped. Haven't been to Thunderbird stadium since (and there used to be something there every year). I suppose there's only so many rock band's left to headline festivals. Probably makes it harder to come up with an interesting bill.

Rock the Shores is alright for a get of the couch festival....
Although the last few years they have poached acts from Pemby fest.
Best thing about RTS is that they have like 6 kinds of Phillips beer on tap.

I was at that Ozzfest...what a lineup! I will never forget the mountain of confiscated alcohol at the checkstop on the way into the festival....or the guy selling shiitake mushrooms out of a chip bag in front of the cops at the front gate  I have quite a few pics from that show...
I STILL have never seen Radiohead...they always seem to announce a tour the same summers as PJ, and haven't played Edmonton since the mid 90's...don't even remember hearing about that show. If they don't play Vancouver this time around, I won't be able to see them this tour....odds are PJ will play somewhere in or close to western Canada sometime in the near future. So I'm hoping for Radiohead.

We only got the one Ozzfest in Vancouver, but I think we got the best one. Fear Factory, Rob Zombie, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Deftones, System of a Down, Primus, Slipknot, . I still can't believe it was a dry festival. I remember Ozzy making a comment that it was a pretty rowdy festival considering it was dry. I think he was spot on when he mentioned everyone was on drugs... lol... I also remember the bottle pileup before the entrance to the venue. I also remember the gates opened up late so everyone was moo'ing due to being processed like cattle. It's the only festival I ever went to that I watched every band play. The scheduling was perfect so you could run between Stage A and B and catch everything....

I don't listen to much Radiohead but I think it's the last show I remember taking place at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. I think Radiohead and Metallica were the only groups I heard of doing non-festival shows in a venue that big.... I'm more or less wanting to see this partial GNR reunion this summer... Seattle is on the rumoured dates so I'm hoping that works out.

I grew up right outside UBC gates, so first show was PJ/SG and others at Lolla 92 at thunderbird in grade 6. In grade 7 we skipped our elementary school "grad lunch" to see Rage Against the Machine, and others at 1993 lolla!

Even after it stopped coming to thunderbird, still had great memories at 1994 (Cloverdale) and 1995, 1996 (Gorge).

All said, I really miss thunderbird as a venue.

As far as I know, there haven't been any real shows there since Radiohead played in 2008. I think it has to do with the massive residential development by UBC, and noise ordinances, that prevent large shows in the fancy new community (lame!).

I was fortunate enough to score a pair of tickets to Radiohead at the shrine theatre (capacity like 6500) in LA on August 8 (day after Fenway 2), so it's going to be the best August ever! Fenway, then straight to La for Radiohead, back to Vancouver for 2 weeks, then off to Wrigley!

I had to sneak over to the lollapalooza's with friends (via the ferry), but I would of been 14 or 15 for the first lolla in '92. Not quite as cool as going to one in grade 6.. lol. We even kept going to the lolla's when they stopped at thunderbird ( we went to '96 and '97 at the gorge and '03 at the white river amphitheatre). '96 was pretty cool (ramones, soundgarden, and metallica). '97 was ok, but korn dropped off, so the only bands of note were Snoop Dogg and Tool. Both of them picked up the slack. I'm not big on Hip Hop but Snoop owned that crowd. Tool was on fire and it was the most violent mosh pit I've ever witnessed.... Epic show :)

I was at those Gorge ones too! How rad was Soundgarden coming on stage just as the sun was setting over the gorge and river below? That was one of the most scenically beautiful concert memories I have to this day!

I have this problem with the gorge. I always try to be up close. I'm never content with being on the lawn. I'm always on the floor. The problem with being up close is your whole view is the stage. I vaguely remember the sunset, but I've seen a bunch of them out there. I really need to get some lawns seats one day and watch a show from further back so I can take in the scenery around the stage :) I saw soundgarden play there in 2011 too, and we arrived while the Meat Puppets were playing. That lasted about 20 minutes at the top and then we proceeding to go to the floor..... missed the sunset again :)
