I know Zim was old but if any person is running at me and attempts to put their hands on me I would do the same as Pedro did and I think most people would.
Retire Varitek's 33 and Papi's 34. Seriously. They'd actually appreciate it instead of making a fucking mockery of it. Boggs is the #ultimatedouche.
Boggs may be a douche - I don't know enough about him to pass any sort of educated judgement. Ortiz has used PED's, is arrogant in most clips I've seen of him speaking, and in concrete " I'm a self absorbed douche" fashion, he announced before a 162 game season that he plans on retiring at the end of this season. He's not the first to do this and unfortunately, he likely won't be the last, but it's awful like many other conventions of the leisure activity known as baseball. Be well, everyone

When it's all said and done, Papi and Pedro will never, ever get criticized by Boston fans. Ortiz was instrumental in 3 WS rings and we got to watch, at the time, the best pitcher who ever lived pitch in his prime.
What should Pedro have done when looney bin Zim charged at him? Just let him attack him? Zimmer even said he had it coming.
I miss the old Sox/Yanks games. Not even close to the same excitement as it had back in 2003-2006
As a die hard Sox and PJ fan, gotta give props to Mookie Blaylock. The impetus behind the name of the best band in the world and the name of MLB's current leader in runs scored.
Someone's gotta have pair of night 1 tickets for a long suffering twins fan...

So, you & I must be in agreement thinking Jeter & Mariano Rivera are also arrogant self absorbed douches for doing the same thing, no?

Definitely
Yeah, I like the way Mike Mussina did it. The season ended & he retired. He told the media he had made the decision in March, but kept it to himself until the season ended.
I like Jeter, I like Rivera, and I like Ortiz, I think each guy in his own right has been great for the game, but GTFO with these farewell tours.
(speaking of Pedro Martinez)....we got to watch, at the time, the best pitcher who ever lived pitch in his prime.
+ a million
Although, being honest, I distinctly remember watching a completely unhittable late eighties Rocket from the centerfield bleachers. I haven't seen a more explosive fastball before or since. It was out of his hand and by who ever was in the batters box and pretty mind boggling.
I can't wait to visit this jewel of a ballpark so much history and to think I'll be down on that field where the all time greats have roamed gonna be fun !!
