I vote for Ed only singing songs that 50-year-old vocal chords can handle
...and even songs that suit where the band members are at in their lives/career. Blood is a great live tune - as is Leash - but I would understand it if they decided to retire it. They all just seem too happy to be performing songs that require such rage.
Just to clarify before I go: I really like Leash and Blood (and every other song off Vs.) but it It'd be okay with me if they decided to not play them anymore because they felt they'd outgrown them.
I would never want Blood retired. (or Leash) And yes for it as an opener.
If they opened with Blood, it would be a fantastic mind fuck to start the show. It would leave a lot of people wondering what's coming next. Bring it on!

Obviously the idea is for him to be able to sing it. So do you think Blood has to be retired forever? Which other songs need to be retired for this reason in your opinion? If the criteria is "are you worried Ed's voice might break on this song?", dozens of songs would have to be retired.
I'm not a fan of retiring songs, per se. Too final. The band should play what it feels.
I can only speak to the shows I'm at, and I prefer the slow to mid-tempo songs because Ed can still nail them like nobody's business.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
Best opener. I've loved Release (x3), Long Road (x3), Sometimes (x2), Inside Job, Corduroy but when they opened with Go, Animal, Hail Hail at Leeds festival ('06) and at Manchester ('12), dear me it was like the best punch in the face.
"i just, i wouldn't want any song to be just, overplayed. but see if they like, played Blood over and over, i wouldn't mind that as much for some reason..."

Imagine it's your 40th birthday, you're at the rail, the band comes onto the stage and then this explodes in your face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RTz0JNxNEU You have died and gone to heaven or it's Toronto May 10, 2016. Just sayin' this would be the best thing ever, so hard.
Anything you lose from being honest You never really had to begin with.
Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.
I don`t personally care to hear it live these days....I got it in 2003/2006 and I don`t think it can be better than those.... Some of those SA shows Blood sounds really rough, tuned down guitars and whatnot. Reminds me of Metallica trying to play "Ride the Lightning" the last tours and it was tuned down like 25 steps.

Release Go Animal Corduroy Hail Hail
That'd me my perfect first five.
Except Animal (replaced by Interstellar Overdrive) that was the start of BA '11

...and that's one of the reasons this show gets the (deserved) praise that it does.
Cool thought. Maybe in 2003 this would have happened. But these days they insist on opening with Pendulum followed by one or two other slow-ass songs before actually rocking.

According to your signature, you were there.
Obviously, they don't have to pace themselves as much when they're playing such a short set.

Well that was different because it was a festival. Arena shows have been following that Pendulum into a few slow songs formula...for the most part.

I think I agree with the guy that says it comes best later in the set. Just don't know what they'd follow it up with. But would I freak out if I was at a show this year and they opened with it? Abso-fucking-lutely.
