What do you want the next album to sound like?

They seem rich and happy, which I've found commonly results in less experimental and rough sounding tunes.

The 'rough' sounding tunes they try now just don't come out sounding right. I'm thinking of Mind Your Manners as a classic example. That's why they got to get out of there comfort zone a bit. I wasn't a huge fan of Riot Act, but at this point, I'll take another album along those lines.

Either very Experimental or all acoustic. But i favor experimental. Something crazy. Overdubs/synths. Etc

Not a fan of their fast tunes for quite a while. Id rather a poppy album than a punk-garage-rock one.

Lightning Bolt was their best since Riot Act, IMO. Much more experimental-sounding stuff on there and songs with staying power. I'd like to see them go even further down that road, like Binaural/No Code. Pearl Jam at their darkest and weirdest is best.

Agree. But Lightning Bolt is better than Avocado? :get_outta_here:

As someone hoping for more experimental and rough, I really love MYM - I think it's the best song on LB. But yeah, not experimental or rough. But I don't think they were at all going for an experiemental or rough sound at all with MYM, so I don't look at it as an example of what they manage when they make the attempt. If I were to pick a song where I think they might have more been going for that sound, it would be My Father's Son. I also think RA is one of their best two albums, lol, so if it sounds anything like RA I'll be fucking thrilled!!
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata

i am content with anything the band decides to put out. i will listen to the album a few times then decide whether i like it or not. it might be something i dislike at the time yet learn to appreciate as it passes. i figure pearl jam is going to keep putting out what pearl jam feels is worthy to put out. now it may not be aggressive as something from 1991 nor experimental as something from 1996, but i am happy the band is still putting out music in general and still deciding to tour behind it as well. the elements of the early years still manage to shine in newer material, yet i love when i can be floored hearing something new that doesn't sound like the material could be on any earlier album.
i have witnessed some performances. i have soaked up a lot of memories.

Out of the last 3 albums, I really like Avocado! I'd be okay with something like that!

That being said, someone said something like Of the Earth. I totally agree. Something with a nice hard edge, kind of loose sounding, maybe a bit more jammy or improvisational?

I liked Avocado a lot. Backspacer was cool in a mellow kind of way. And I don't think LB was bad either... My favorite era is probably vitalogy through yield, though I'll take any Pearl Jam over no Pearl Jam.

Not like the last few albums anyway, because they were pretty bad.

    Amen to that!!

Don't agree at all...I think. Backspacer and Lightning Bolt are great, classic rock records. Brendan O Brien is a great match for them...in my opinion, all their best records have been with him...but, to each his own I guess

    Yes!

NO! I want Eddie to stay within his abilities at his age. PLEASE limit the self induced damage to your voice. The South American tour was a breath of fresh air after 5 years of sounding hoarse.

Please make an album in the vein of No Code's "Around the Bend" - Neil Young/Wiico like. Something with space. Pull out a harmonica! It worked on "Smile".

Still waiting on Ryan Adams' Lightning Bolt.

His 1989-cover album is better than both Backspacer and Lightning Bolt. So I'd be happy if he did one.
That is a BOLD statement. Yes to Josh Homme producing.

Groove driven, mid tempo to me is where they are at there best later in there career. With Eddie not on Guitar as much.. Songs like Marker In the Sand, Amongst the Waves, Force of Nature, Army Reserve, Infallible are great examples .. Ed is great with "Unthought Known"

They have always been amazing at this: Alive, Breath, In Hiding, Tremor Christ, Given To Fly,
In My Tree, Red Mosquito, Faithfull

Also some great slower tempo tunes last few albums ... Yellow Moon, Come Back, Inside Job, Parachutes,

For Harder tunes later in their career it has gone more punk then the vintage "Go" "Animal" "Hail Hail" "Breakerfall" grooves that are my first Love. (example: Gonna See My Friend, Got Some, Comatose, Big Wave, Mind Your Manners etc..) Not saying I hate these songs but not to the standard of the earlier hard tunes... Just my opinion... Getaway and Severed Hand are cool tunes, ...

There is not many hard tunes past Binaural other than those two that I would prefer than at least 10 before 2000..

    Go
    Animal
    Last Exit
    Brain Of J
    Hail Hail
    Breakerfall
    Grievance
    Why Go
    Once
    State
    Leash
    Blood
(I think I have made my point... )

Overall don't get me wrong I would just be happy to get new tunes! just my observations, agree or disagree!

I truly believe things would get infinitely better if they dumped BoB. he brings out their most commercial side. I don't mind a good hook. Just, come on, Sleeping By Myself? great song on Uke Songs. Country-fied up on a PJ release? you know that was his doing. and it's unlistenable.

I'd like the band to take on a new challenge. a new producer. or jeff or stone produces. or mark arm.

not jack white. they'd end up doing an album of loretta lynn covers.

I would love some experimental stuff. They can take the chances now and probably be credited for it. I would say, get loose, get out, go to the dessert with Josh and Jam, jam, jam.

How bout go in a studio for a long weekend
Write & create quickly & release something. If you don't have enough for a full LP, put out an EP of 5-6 songs.

It's like they have OCD.... Every time for the last 15 yrs or so they are suppose to record they describe the same routine

Break the cycle & take it to a different place
