Another travesty by our feeble courts:

Poor guy. The courts describe him as an "incurable, life-long pedophile with an intense sexual deviance confirmed by ... 25 convictions for sexual offences on prepubescent girls."

Okay then... take him out back and shoot him before you give him 16 years. 16 years? For the trauma he inflicted on those 25 young children? I guess it's up to the inmates or one of the dads to do what the courts have failed to do- which is administer justice. Sorry stout defenders of shitbirds... I probably should have said 'revenge' (with such great concern for losers... some people seem to have lost the understanding of the term 'justice' or what it might mean to victims).

    Only in Canada! A joke.
no one is a stout defender of shitbirds. we are stout defenders of due process. in this case, it failed. sex offenders, especially repeat ones like this, need to be locked away indefinitely.

I can't access that link right now. was the maximum given to him? If so, the sentencing laws need to be changed. If not, then the judge failed in sentencing. And the dangerous offender designation (or whatever it is called) would be put to good use here.

I think it's fair to say the process is flawed and in need of some repair. 'The process' comes at great expense to the taxpayer and to be frank... I'm not happy with my money being used as it is. For example, child murderer Penny Boudreau was investigated, charged, tried, and sentenced. That wasn't then end of it: she petitioned the courts for escorted leaves so she could attend church- which she has won. She will attend church with two officials supervising her.

Her case is one case. Look at the finances associated with 'the process' so we can treat her so delicately. I don't give a shit about a past that led her to strangle her daughter, drive her to a remote location, pull her pants down to give the impression of a rape, and leave her lifeless body to the elements. I care about her at least serving half of her life sentence (20 years... that's not 'life') before we eagerly seek to make things sweet for her.

Leniency appears to be the operative term in our courts. It seems we really struggle laying the hammer down on those that need the hammer laid down on them.

I don't know if you read the whole article but Metis leader actually said that he was happy with the progress he was having with the liberals.

here is the quote from the article:  But the Métis, he said, are happier with the progress they've seen on their issues through working directly with Justin Trudeau's Liberal government.

Of course the Metis leaders are.  They are getting closer to full status first nation, which is what they want.  Once they get full status they will not be happy.  Not to mention Metis people are generally not tied to a reserve with horrible living conditions.  The fucking liberal have governed this country for close to 80% of the time ... they fucking own our First Nations mess...and the next time they add seats, maybe they should tell Toronto and those other large cities you have enough representation in government ... all new seats should go First Nations reserves...not the fucking cities.

actually, 15 of the 23 prime minsters have not been liberal. but I will say this, the way that we have treated the Indigenous people is a National Disgrace that has spanned our history and yes we should fight for more representation in our government esp. in the reserves.

as for the comment that once they get full status comment, we don't know that at all.

Liberal Prime Ministers tend to have longer reigns and usually when they come to power and usually have a lot of leeway with the public to enact real change...and Sir. John McDonalds early conservative party considered themselves liberal-conservatives.   There is enough blame for both the conservatives and liberals.  Right now without full status they are not expected to live on a reserve to get full benefits...we will see...it was the courts that gave the Metis more rights.  When they have to fight the the descendants  of immigrant politician in the courts, thats fucked up.  Trudeau talks a big game...he no better than the any of the rest.  And Trudeau should have to resign #metoo...all woman must be believed...remember that, but that doesn't apply to elite's trust fund baby who pilfering from Canadians.

Trudeau's discrepancy was nothing to be proud of, but it's hardly an incident where he should resign. People do believe his accuser, but her story is not of the grotesque variety and she has basically said this (he misread her signals, made unwanted advances and apologized for doing so afterwards).

Come on, man. The guy irritates me to no end and I'm admittedly disappointed in him, but your hatred is making you silly at times.

And maybe First Nations people should spend their disbursements more equitably?

This problem isn't on Trudeau. It's mostly on our forefathers. We do need to develop a plan to get FN people up on their feet with dignity and I'm not sure that plan is at place for the moment; however, there has been no real defined vision to speak of.

Someone needs to present a concrete model of reconciliation that the Canadian public can understand and support. I feel the rudimentary model needs to be developed by FN people. Tell all what you need to move forward and let's work from there. Stripping land from private ownership is not reconciliation and neither is lump sum payouts without any accountability whatsoever (leading to disparities in wealth among FN people on reserves).

Just throwing more and more money at the First Nations issue has been proven to NOT be the solution. It has been done for years and years, and it's never helped a thing, for several reasons. The problem is definitely not one a rational person who is well-informed can put on Trudeau's shoulders.

No one is putting First Nations problem at feet of Trudeau except Trudeau.  If you shoot your mouth off that you care about first nation problems, then you better come with solutions.  By the way money will fix some of the of  the problems.  spending money to ensure every single First Nations reserve has clean potable water  is something that can and should be done.  So do you feel the same when politicians from Canada hand out billions and billions yearly in wasted foreign aid?

How much much money have been spent on these economic illegal migrants...trying to gain our system???

The disbursements to FN people are generous.

The problem isn't the amount we give... the problem is there is no accountability as to how they allot the money and many reservations are corrupt- so much so that people outside the umbrella of the band chief see nothing.

This is not what I call efficient or strong self governance.

I'm tired of the excuse's (not from you) from the politicians.  Nothing is stopping the federal government from compiling a list of reserves that have sub-standard water and making sure they have clean potable water ... no person in Canada should have sub - standard water.  Start with clean drinking water and go from there.  I know many of these problems can not be fixed quickly, but we can make sure they have clean potable water as a start and a sign of good faith.  By the way...lets not forget it was the European masters who destroyed First Nations peoples by stealing their land and their resources...I have no problem admitting this is stolen land we live on...

Money won't fix the problems???  Then why are we wasting billions in foreign aid to places that thumb there nose at Canada?  Because all foreign aid does is pilfer from the middle class in Canada and gives to ruling class in another country....that money could bring potable water to all reserves to people's who deserve and would appreciate it.

  • Stolen land? Sure.

But this planet is small and it was inevitable North America was going to be discovered and people were going to move here.

I'm never going to apologize for my existence. There was a level of cruelty that occurred in the past, but that wasn't this era. This era recognizes and acknowledges the brutality. This era also recognizes we need to prop up FN people with a good plan to help them regain their dignity.

So what's the plan though? You seem to be suggesting more money. That money has already been issued, but it never went to areas of need- it was retained by corrupt FN leaders who neglected infrastructure (among other things).

Exactly. Meltdown, you don't seem to understand just how much money has and is being thrown at the FN issues. It hasn't solved the problems. The problems are so much more complicated than that. you seem to think it's a lot easier than it is. You do tend to ignore all subtleties and complexities and all the fine details, no matter what the issue is, or at least whenever it has any connection to Trudeau's government. You seem to think with a sledgehammer a fair bit of the time. No offense meant, I'm just calling it as I see it.

Money needs to be spent on many things at the same time. That is how it must be.
The Trudeau government's clean water funding has increased a lot since Harper's time already. He's allocated nearly $2 billion to it in the past 2 years. I do not disagree that yet more funding still needs to go towards this issue. But that does not mean that funding should be taken directly from that one other issue that gets your particular blood boiling. There are tons of places the money can and should be found, namely is plain old fiscal waste. Or here's a fucking suggestion: How about they take that $4.6 billion being spent on a decaying pipeline and use that for fresh water for First Nations reserves? I don't remember you being appalled by that spending decision, despite the fact that many First Nations are still completely against that pipeline, partially because it threatens their clean water sources. Why you think it should automatically be taken from refugees and asylum seekers, given that there are so few options when it comes to the government actually dealing with that. So yeah, I'm not arguing that more needs to be done about the water, just that your tunnel vision as to where those funds should come from seems completely biased.

Trudeau’s carbon tax looks pretty much dead now that most provinces are out

    From The Article...

This week, Warren Kinsella, who once worked for the Chrétien Liberals (and who describes himself as being “110 per cent” in favour of a carbon tax) tweeted that with so many provinces bailing on it, “Trudeau’s dream of a carbon tax is dead, pretty much.”

Mass shooting on the Danforth in Toronto. Doesn’t sound good, a guy dressed in black shooting people randomly, apparently multiple fatalities, but information’s sketchy as it seems to have happened within the hour or so.

This on the weekend police were increasing patrols to deal with the gang violence.

Edit:  As the news was signing off, it’s being reported 9 victims (including a child), plus the dead gunman.

    Damn and crap.

Shooter is dead; I can't tell from reports if anyone else is dead, though certainly many wounded. Online news now says 10 total, though it's not clear to me if the gunman is included in the total.

My bad, I really should’ve been more specific that 9 victims were hit and 6 were apparently taken to hospitals.  I made it sound like it could be 9 dead, which it doesn’t seem to be the case.

Hopefully the shooter left enough behind for a clear motive to be determined.
