Good lord the ego. You’re not challenging anyone to think with this constant drivel.

Positioning yourself as the smartest in the room, while, at the same time, labelling an entire swath of millions of people in some kind of mythical political cognitive decline is laughable, if not completely stupid.

Cry to your king, it's all voluntary, right?

You never really make too much sense in this thread IMO. It's like you're missing the whole vibe, lol.

He’d probably give y’all fifty electoral votes, fifty congresspeople, two senators…and let you keep your anthem, Parliament , PM,  health care, all for free…and if the Oilers win, then hey, why the heck not? What could possibly be more valuable with your dollar? Independent States have significant identity and diversity.

What is the matter with you?

Guessing the tongue in cheek humor is lost on you.

Behind most HUMOR is a percent of truth. I challenged Canadians to calculate the value of fifty electoral votes, fifty congressmen, two senators, perhaps more, which would be open to negotiation, while maintaining significant independence. That has significant value

anyone following politics certainly understands that America has a problem, which is not my fault nor my fellow Democratic voters. We have tens of millions of voters in rural and exurban America, who are not reachable to Democrats.

In addition to not knowing how to reach these voters, Democrats do not even know what to say. All we need to look at is what is said on this forum. Democrats have replied to extremism with their version of extremism, and it ain’t working with the majority of voters. The liberal movement is lost in the weeds, and we could use all the help we could get. But go on you being you, and let’s all root for the Oilers to win!

Can’t fix stupid. And Canada as the 51st is just that, fucking stupid.

My comment does not support the 51st state idea. It’s challenging people to think. Something the left used to be good at.

At least the tariffs will help solve Canadas unemployment problem. Hopefully.
Think about what? The complete mess the US is right now? How the previous world’s superpower and defender of democratic ideals is no longer a trusted partner in that endeavour and can’t ever be trusted again?

    ”Think” about what, exactly?
Can't ever be trusted again? Get a grip.

That nuclear armed king and NATO member? That one? Seems to me that Canada can trust the monarchy with a whole many things over the US and COOTWH. It’s interesting to see the remarkable lack of acknowledgement of the damage that is occurring on so many levels. Canada will be fine. The US? Not so much.

With what has occurred, particularly to the intelligence agencies, yes, you’d, general you, would be a fool to trust the US in any endeavour.

That woman on this forum started calling me stupid again and you attack me as the smartest in the room lol ...Manitoba Genius...I'm doing tongue n cheek about your independence from the monarchy while crying about trump. I know it's a formality but the look is terrible. If you guys were smart you could figure out a better deal from Trump than the uk.. The monarchy does zilch for you. At some point I figured you guys would get sick and tired of watching Americans win your cup the and join the party lol. Hopefully that ends in 2 weeks.

Despite your lack of politeness I'm still rooting for you guys to end this 30-year nightmare

    you're losing your marbles.

    "that woman"?

and I think you might want to re-read my "smartest" comment a second, or maybe a third or fourth time. You're clearly not getting it.

Yeah I thought it was a compliment. Obviously, that one sentence is going to present challenges for you.

My comments on this topic are related to the nastiness directed at the American people, for something most of us had no involvement in. You all cry about trumps proposed deal, which is very unrealistic of ever happening, and if anyone is paying attention, it's more likely it was an opening to try to come up with an alliance or a new trade deal more than a 51st state. And curse out all Americans on an American forum, but then go running to your king to demonstrate your Independence, LOL. If you can't see the irony in that, and instead you need to call me stupid, you and your Canadian lady friend , good for you

    Go Oilers!

Sorry, but from this, it is really clear that you just don't properly understand these issues. You've kind of made up your own little stories about what it all means, and are calling it fact. Also, nobody here has cursed out all Americans.

You challenge us to calculate value?  Based on Trump? You understand he is a narcissistic pathological liar right? Like you know that right?

How many of you Americans heard him say Mexico was paying for a border wall and actually believed that? lol

They know they can just wait for government intervention. Again and again every 4 years like clockwork they resist proper collective bargaining and the govt bails them out.

I feel bad for the workers to say this; it’s a massive workforce, but it’s essentially a nearly obsolete service. All the mail I get is junk. The shit I need is electronic or courier.

This is the original quote. It is clear you don’t understand my comment.

“ Free golden dome, and still you shoot us down?

He’d probably give y’all fifty electoral votes, fifty congresspeople, two senators…and let you keep your anthem, Parliament , PM,  health care, all for free…and if the Oilers win, then hey, why the heck not? What could possibly be more valuable with your dollar? Independent States have significant identity and diversity.”

I do understand it. What makes you think I don't understand it??

I get legit mail often enough, and more importantly, Canada Post is by far the most reliable courier service available IMO. I will even choose some merchants over others if they use Canada Post to ship rather than some other company, and especially UPS, which is just the worst, and all the weird, random, inconvenient, and often creepy pick up locations all those other courier companies use when they fail to locate my home really bug me. I really really hope that CP makes it through all this.

I think it still could work in a consumers distributing sort of way. Switch to a pick up service. The stuff I do get is so infrequent it wouldn’t kill me to go to my local PO to pick it up.

But of course that’s my priveledged able bodied self speaking.

And I’d probably bitch about it in the winter. 😂

The current model is outdated. I just don’t think the current demand matches the supply.

Most (not all) homes still get mail every 1-2 days. The problem is the number of homes in Canada has grown exponentially and it’s not cost effective to service them all anymore. Private couriers do not service vast areas of our country. They subcontract their deliveries to Canada Post. Those of us in the big cities have it good. Many rural communities would be completely cut off if not for the public post office.

100%. So like many other sevices, we could keep canada post rural and do something else for urban centres. Maybe a multi-solution idea would be too confusing to the public, but it’s just mot viable.

I have friends who are posties. It can be a gruellingly thankless job. ESPECIALLY in Winnipeg (2 of my friends started at CP in Vancouver, then CHOSE to transfer back here). So they do deserve higher pay/better benefits. But the model needs updating.

There’s so much evil stuff under the surface of these public sector labour disputes that the public never hears about. Reporters don’t ask questions anymore. They just copy and paste the corporate and union statements and call it news. Journalism is dying even faster than letter mail volumes.

Government just refused Canada Post’s plea for a forced contract vote. Arbitration proceedings on the way. 🍿

Probably a topic for a separate thread, but…they are only following those they serve. The public today need information yesterday and in 10 second sound bites. Investigative journalism is no longer cost effective.

But is it fair to characterize an essential public service as “losing money” or should we shift it to “spending money”?

Bingo! Especially when the corporation has been engaged in infrastructure spending at an alarming rate and calling it “losses” in the media. Labour spending at Canada Post is down. All other spending is way, way up. Heck the new hires in BC barely make more than minimum wage now that the 2 tiered wage system was forced in during the Harper years.
  • What would be your percentage of useful/junk mail that you get from CP? I say 85% junk. We check at home for the few random gov / insurance type mail that still come physically by mail, and of course jury duty summons - wouldn't want to miss that and have to pay 1000$ fine lol.

Junk mail at the most basic level is no different than letter mail or a parcel. Someone has paid Canada Post to deliver it to a civic address. The revenue from junk mail delivery helps keep the cost of postage more affordable.

I’d say 85% would be a conservative estimate in my house.

50/50 for us. Mail/parcels every 1-2 days and junk mail comes in bunches every 3rd day.
