Dude im guessing you weren't at both MSG's.. #1 the set lists were better, and they played almost every song that was played at Mansfield 1.
Have you ever heard a Garden cheer? You think your show is the best because you went. But if you want to be factual these MSG shows were amazing. McCready said MSG 2 has to be his favorite show EVER.
But Mike told me that Thunder Bay '05 was his favourite show ever. He also said that FWG (Fort William Gardens) owns MSG in terms of atmosphere and air conditioning. At least I think that is what he said.
1/12/1879, 4/8/1156, 2/6/1977, who gives a shit, ...
Having gone to both MSG shows, Hartford, and last night's Mansfield show I would still say Hartford was the best. They played a bunch of stuff they don't play a whole lot especially songs like immortality, fuckin' up, can't keep, breakerfall, and brain of j. If you are an avid fan you would have really appreciated Hartford's set list. I would say that MSG I and II were very close and probably tied at second. Those two shows had a similar feel and the crowd was going nuts. Mansfield is fourth simply because of its brevity. Both encores were great but it almost felt like a tease when the band ended on alive and failed to go into something next. The noise in the middle of betterman will be legendary.
Fail. Hartford blew Mansfield away. Period. Mansfield had a better crowd, but the setlist was very uneven and choppy. It just didn't seem to flow well at all. The second encore gave me blue balls I think. Every time the momentum started to build they killed it with a slow song. I had a great time and awesome seats, but calling it the best show of the tour is ludicrous.
Wasn't at Mansfield, but the setlist sucks in my view, excpet I would like to see Comeback. Nothing so far has matched Hartford in my book; even much better than both MSG shows for me.
SLC 11/2/95, Park City 6/21/98, Boise 11/3/00, Seattle 12/9/02, Vancouver 5/30/03, Gorge 9/1/05, Vancouver 9/2/05, Gorge 7/22/06, Gorge 7/23/06, Camden I 6/19/08, MSG I 6/24/08, MSG II 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08, Mansfield II 6/30/08; Eddie Albany 6/8/09, 6/9/09; Philly 10/30/09, 10/31/09; Boston 5/17/10

Mansfield was solid last night. Outside of the Betterman moment, though, there wasn't a lot to distinguish it.
Some nice early moments and great tunes for sure: Faithful, I'm Open > I Got Shit, HTI all stood out. Eddie's pre-set was sweet. Low Light and Off He Goes were cool to mix into the tempo. Insignificance (my favorite of the night) was bliss, the band so dead on - white hot. Mike's solo in Come Back was one he seemed to be really feeling.
But there were some flat spots: Even Flow was way off, Mike seemed like he was having trouble getting the guitar to do what he wanted; Boom's brief solo in LROM was cringe-worthy at one point but overall I'm loving this guy ... he's really growing on me. Black was one of the flatter versions you're gonna hear, and it was around this point (on the fade-out) that I couldn't squash the niggling feeling there are some going-through-the-motions phases creeping in on these guys.
But I don't want to digress. It was a kick-ass, tight, and powerful show - really looking forward to Monday. Just no way it was one of their best.
Wow I thought the DC set looked awesome. Well you put Hartford first so I'll let that slide lol. Jk I know each person has his own preference.
The DC set was great and the band sounded great. I was off the floor and my section on the wing on Mike's side had no energy. The floor looked nuts, but where I was at it just felt like a good show, but nothing special.

its just his opinion you dont have to try and tell him that the shows oyu went to were so much better
hard to believe. anything that happens in Boston sucks dude. im sure PJ sucked less then everything else though.
Ha ha ha...you New Yorkers are getting pretty petty, you know that? It used to be that people thought Boston had an inferiority complex with New York. Now it seems the worm has turned. I could say something to defend my hometown but does anything really need to be said? Does it?
Any show that contains an "instant-classic-I-have-to-get-the-bootleg-to-hear-that-again" moment is an above average show...Low Light was perfect, so was Insignificance...a solid B++
Least favorite show I have been to, just because of the crowd. The fucking beer line was long ass hell in the middle of the set, everyone was drunk, not in their seats, trying to steal my seat, pissing on me and ignorant to anything after Vs.
It seemed like to me the only people getting into were the lucky ones in the pit area. I had friends in the lawn and they said it was completely dead. I can't stand Great Woods, play TD Banknorth please or play 3 nights in Hartford instead since it seemed like they enjoyed themselves a hell of a lot more than last night. What was Ed pissed off about? Speakers, the Marines recruiting, what was it?
I was happy to hear Come Back, but everything else was pretty standard. The Betterman thing was cool, but it was kind of overdrawn and probably cost an extra song at the end like Porch or Indifference cough cough. Here's to Monday being a hell of a lot better, maybe the boys will do something crazy like forfeit their pay and break curfew, or do another experiment, whatever they do, it will sure as hell be better than the travesty that was last nights show. Boston crowd was terrible, nothing compared to MSG.
I am really sorry about the negative post, its such a downer, and I feel really spoiled and bratty, but I just didn't have as good of time as I did at the MSGs or Hartford.
EDIT: I forgot about Once, that was cool to hear. It wasn't a bad show, just not as good as the past 3.

You fuckin think people will buy this boot for an extended betterman cheer? A cheer? This is getting beyond ridiculous. If I would have been there I would have been pissed because i was there to hear PJ and not Boston blowing its load.

amen...its tough for some people to admit that Boston got a stinker...Pearl Jam can play a bad show people...they arent superhuman. Eddie was pissed and it effected everyone last night. Monday will be better. Like I said earlier...I would still have rather been there than doing anything else, but you're allowed not to like the performance and energy they gave...they raised the bar so high on this tour...its their own fault. And thats a compliment.

agreed; I think PJ was fried from such an energetic and HOT show at Hartford

You sound like a frustrated Colts fan...Its not my fault you live in Indiana. Its not my fault we've had more parades in the past three years than youve had sex...get over it.
Last night was short, but sweet. If they palyed 3-4 more songs, none of this discussion would not be happening. The fact is, they couldn't play 3-4 more songs, but they made the most of what they could.
The Betterman cheer was louder than anything I have ever experienced at a PJ show, even MSG.
The curfew and new rules with drinking in Mansfield suck, but take away the time factor, and I think this was just as good as MSG.l
