Nirvana's first record was Love Buzz in 1988. Smashing Pumpkins are eligible for nomination this year because they released a single in 1990 (I am One). Pearl Jam is not eligible to be nominated until next October. They will be inducted in April 2017.
Yep.. I also believe that artist..athletes..or any other profession could care less about the hof. In the modern day it's all about cashing paychecks.
Couldn't care less you mean? I think that at least Eddie cares about the HOF. He seems pretty into it when he speaks for the induction of his friends.
Agreed. Ed definitely cares about the HOF. His whole career he has demonstrated he has a respect for the guys who came before him and I think he wants to take his place with them some day. He's not obsessed with it but he definitely cares.

This in better english than my greekglish
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
Is it first album or first record? Which could be a single? Nirvana released its first single in 1988. Voted in in 2013 and inducted the following year.
Ok, this explanation I can buy. But how about Green Day? First record 1990, inducted 2015. Did they have something in 1989? Or is it because their first album was released April 1990 and they just made the cut?

They announce the candidates tomorrow and we can settle this debate

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2016 are in, and the list includes Chicago, Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, the Cars, Janet Jackson, N.W.A, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths and Yes. The rest of this year's hopefuls are Chaka Khan, Chic, The J.B.'s, Los Lobos, Steve Miller and the Spinners. The top vote-getters will be announced in December and inducted next April at a ceremony in New York. HBO will broadcast the ceremony later in the year.
For the fourth consecutive year, the public will have the opportunity to vote alongside the more than 800 artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 9th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they'd like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the ballots that determine the class of 2016.
In order to be eligible for this year's ballot, artists or bands need to have released their first single or album in 1990 or earlier. Some of the nominees have appeared on previous ballots, but this is the first appearance for Chicago, Cheap Trick, the Cars, Chaka Khan, The J.B.'s, Janet Jackson, Los Lobos and Steve Miller. Chic, however, have now been nominated a record 10 times. This also marks the fourth time that N.W.A has been on the ballot and the third time for Deep Purple and the Spinners.
My vote goes to Deep Purple - NIN - Smiths as for our boys,i said already in this thread when will be in

Well obviously everything I read was wrong. Very strange that they would wait 3 years after nirvana to put Pearl jam in. I suppose that they've left out so many deserving bands that it's a cluster fuck at this point.

Not weird at all. Love buzz came out in 88. Nirvana SHOULD be in three years before PJ. They will get a first year nomination next year.

The news we have all known and were waiting for. Here is a nice summary article for the casual fan to understand and for the hardcores to appreciate. http://www.therecord.com/whatson-story/6501078-pearl-jam-bound-for-rock-s-hall-of-fame/ It's not every year that an artist or band is voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its first year of eligibility. In the past decade, it has happened only seven times: Green Day, Nirvana, Public Enemy, Guns N' Roses, Run-DMC, Madonna and R.E.M. This December, Pearl Jam will make it eight.
