People Who Do Collect Merch

scurtisscurtis Posts: 2,432
Personally... I'm a vinyl and a poster guy. Like to grab the odd sticker or pick when I can.

Love collecting, still love the band too.

Vinyl and hoodie person but lately their hoodies have been pretty shitty. They need better designs. Not much into posters or anything unless it sparks my interest.

    Same as you Sean.
Although You have a few posters I would kill for.

Vinyl mostly but have collected a few posters I like along the way. Cant split my kong poster or benaroya hall vinyl for favorite item. Not to hijack your thread but would be interested as to what everyones favorite piece of merchandise that they own is.

I collect a little bit of everything. I have 20 different styles of PJ socks, only missing 2 pairs(I think).i only do posters of shows I've been to. I love rare CDs.
My favorite item?!? My yield keychain from my first show in 98. I recently purchased another.
Favorite cd? Freak promo. I've only seen one offered for sale in the last 5 years...

I've focused on the tour itineraries/crew books!

Not easy to find but beautiful pieces of PJ history

Always got a memento from any gig ever been to. Just me. Realised only a couple of years ago that I had some good sh*t without "collecting". Especially PJ and Dinosaur Jr - my 2 fave bands.
And then since I have been hooked on the PJ merch. Went back and got most vinyl. But like Dave, would have to say my fave are the zippos. But I want the Jam, Paul

I buy everything. It's a sickness, I mean, hobby. Favourites are vinyl (it's a constant struggle whether I open or keep sealed, so I try to buy at least 2 copies if I really really really like something. Don't even ask how many Ryan Adams Carnegie Hall box sets I have), posters and stickers. Also like hats and hoodies, but don't wear either often (I NEVER wear hats) so I've been trying to cut down on those.

Oh, MUGS! I love mugs.I have a thing for them. Who knows why.

And obviously ticket stubs, but I'm assuming that's a given for anyone on this thread :)

Oh wait, just saw Dave's post. Picks of course! But I generally won't pay for them, I'll only collect whatever hits me in the face at shows.

I won't pay gobs of money in the secondary market though, at least I have that going for me.

I am/was a collector and hoarder. I have vinyl and posters mostly. I think I have a pretty solid collection. No more clothing for me though.

Every vinyl (including 7s and Benny) except for Lost Dogs, Binaural, LO2L, Avocado, and RVM. Also signed Backspacer coming my way from Tom Tomorrow.

    Posters
    PJ20 Mural
    PJ20 Beercan
    PJ20 Klausen and Ames
    PJ20 Mookie
Sperry 10C Art and Poster Convention
    Kong S/N
    Pitt 13 S/N
    Cracker Jack
    Vedder Seattle '11 Pike Place
    Yield Virgin Megastore Promo
    10 Club Munk One S/N
    St Louis '10 S/N
    Cleveland '10 S/N

    Misc:
Vault 1, Black Zippo, McCready Bobblehead, PJ20 Backpack, complete set of Backspacer Picks.

For me though, it just seems like it takes to much effort to acquire everything these days, and too much 'limited' runs and 'variants', etc... I'm not in an active acquisition phase... especially since I have (roughly) 50 prints in the queue for framing (or not to frame). Probably just acquire prints for any shows I attend in the future.

Still on the lookout though for a few things. Mainly to complete my PJ Vinyl collection over time... and also find the Mark 5 PJ20 10 Club Print.

I collect posters of shows I attend if I like them. I'm into collecting stickers and a few other odds and ends. But posters and stickers are my focus.

Is it considered collecting if I actually use the the things that I buy (i.e., play my records, hang my posters, let my kids stick the stickers, etc.)?

If yes, I've got a decent collection, but, of course, there are some gaps that I would like to fill. Unfortunately, the items that would fill those gaps are all out of my price range.

    So it goes....

Not a ton of rhyme or reason for the stuff I get...I just chase stuff that catches my eye or has special meaning to me/the band. Signed or stage-used stuff (particularly from shows I attended), a handful of posters, picks. I only get records to play. I live in hope of getting something truly magical like original hand written lyrics or something with historical value from the band's past but that kind of thing doesn't pop up too often.

Honestly I really don't have a lot of interest in shows I haven't attended (which, isn't many given how recently I climbed on board) :disappointed:
That being said, anyone want to sell this idiot a Milwaukee poster? :/

    Mostly vinyl

Ive reached my holy grail tho --- kickstarter autographed Backspacer. Its almost impossible to get 100% guaranteed signed PJ stuff so this is going to be unreal.

Absolutely, I do all of that too. I have stickers all over the dust covers of my TTs and my speakers.

Just don't hang your posters with tape or pins, use frames. ;)
