In celebration of the 30th anniversary of ‘Wildflowers’ and as a special gift to Petty’s loyal fans, the Estate is opening the Wildflowers vault to share a trove of never-before-seen performance footage from the Wildflowers era.

The rare footage can be accessed via Tom Petty’s free, exclusive fan club, Tom Petty Nation, over the next few months—join the Fan Club now at https://www.tompetty.com/pages/fanclub-join

The first video, “Crawling Back To You” from the 1995 Dogs With Wings tour rehearsals, is available now for early-access exclusively via the Official Fan Club. #Wildflowers30

It’s a masterpiece of a record.  I will always be thankful for seeing this tour. I really liked the record at the time, but was not old enough to really appreciate the depth of the songs and the sadness as he headed both for divorce and a bad heroin addiction. The older I get, the more I connect with the record.

I thought about it but I have the pressing from the vinyl box set and the wildflowers and all the rest.  Once it was in my cart I asked if I really needed a 125 dollar version of a record that I already have that is only marginally better than my box set copy? The answer was no.  The fomo almost got me.

It's FOMO for sure.  But then I thought... the whole reason you have a turntable is to listen to your favorite music in the best possible format, sound-wise.  I also have the WF from the original box set of a decade ago, plus the WF and all the rest.  Yet, I still pulled the trigger.  No different than buying yet another version of White Stripes Elephant from AP when I already had at least two versions of it.  EOD, vinyl purchasing is a luxury so I went all-in on one of my favorite studio records of all time.

And if I died with a $124 to my name, I'd be pissed I didn't get it.

Yeah, I'm also a huge Petty fan. And obviously "Wildflowers" is an incredibly wonderful album.
But this latest money grab by the Petty daughters is one too many for me.
I think the price has certainly got to drop to something more reasonable eventually.
The initial pressing (ooh - with a "machine numbered cover"!) is 6,000 and if it sells out, they'll press more.

By comparison, the always wildly popular "Buckingham Nicks" LP, recently released by the Rhino High Fidelity label (AAA Cut From The Original Stereo Master Tapes By Kevin Gray and Pressed On 180-Gram Heavyweight Vinyl at Optimal with a Heavyweight Glossy Gatefold Jacket), was only $39.98.
When the initial "numbered cover edition" of 5,000 sold out, they offered tons more un-numbered ones.
And when those eventually sold out, they re-offered it again as a pre-order, due later this Fall.

If folks have money to burn before they die, there are always plenty of worthy causes you can donate to.
And that feels really good, too.

I'll just do both, as I already do.  You know you could just skip buying records and listen on Spotify and sell all of your records, donating the money to charity.  Vinyl is a luxury purchase to start.  Or you can hold the moralizing next time.
