Can we be totally real and acknowledge that if they advertised this as super limited to what was already printed that it would’ve been gone in seconds to resellers and more people would be upset than are now. That is 100% what would’ve transpired.
The flippers would have been out in force. And you are right, there would have been anger that they didn’t do enough to stop the flippers.

100% if they had said how limited it was, even more would have missed out.

Not sure what the issue would have been to do a window for a month or whatever as they used to, making it clear that once that time is up then no more would be available and that there will be a 6 month wait. Order more than needed so enough to cover missing and damaged. I for one would have been fine with waiting, as long as it is clearly communicated I dont think its a problem.

Were 10c being limited to how many they could get, did they think because it was an old vault that not as many people would want it. Seems like it would have been easy money.

I guess the flipping argument is that a person that would not have normally purchased it, would?  Because it was still only 1 per member.  I guess it's possible but I tend to think anyone inclined to buy and flip vaults already knows that they all go for more than face as soon as they are out the door.

I thought it was fairly obvious it would be a limited window to order since there was no preorder end date, they said it would ship fairly soon (in relation to the other vaults), and it was one per member and not one per order.

but if this one was known to be as limited as it was, the value inherently goes up, tending to attract more flippers.

yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of fans here who don't buy vinyl, but wouldn't have a problem buying one to flip to cover the price of tickets to a show or 2. That keeps someone who really loves the vaults on vinyl from getting a copy. Keeping it vague prevents a panic buy from those who want to take advantage of something limited and gives an opportunity for someone who REALLY wants it to jump on it immediately (or within 5 days in this case)

Could they have been more forthcoming with details? I guess, but at least this didn't sell out in 15 min. Or an hour. While not the normal 3-4 months to pre-order, if you really WANTED it, you had ample time to order.

    Amen. Couldn't agree more.

those are all good points..  if there were something like 5000 made.   Whether they announced up front how limited it was or it became knowledge after the fact, they still end up in hands of fans. It might be different fans depending how they do it, but still fans.  Saying something is uberlimited up front would cause more panic and flipping though.

One would hope the pressing size is decent.  They must have a rough idea how many vaults they sell every year.  Hopefully they weren't too far off the mark with their estimate on how many to order this time around (ie hopefully it's more than we thing and the secondary market isn't that horrible).

I nearly bought 2 on the UK store as all it said was one per order. Would have felt guilty if people missed out and I had bought 2 so would have offered it up here. Lets hope others do for those who missed out. Made the purchase of 1 straight away. Never got around to purchasing the 2nd.

My only fear is that plants are so backed up that bands make cuts to orders so they can be slotted in to make a delivery window. So hopefully this isn't a shorted order and they pressed an average of whatever the last couple runs were. I think secondary market prices will tell us after a few months if its a smaller run or a normal one.

I think this is very possible..  It wouldn't surprise me at all if the run was 2500 or so.

Yeah it seems to be small runs of a few thousand are being done of records but not the big runs we've seen of a couple of years ago. A lot of places seem to be selling out of new titles whereas they use to hang around for quite a while. Im trying to not hold off on records as much as used to. Saying all this, how many copies of the Adele record did they do? Money talks and big label backing. These Vaults dont have that.
  • Okey so if that situation is correct then just:

    ”Hello dear tenclubbers,

We and the band are super-duper excited about the next vault which is a vinyl release of Vault #1. Pressing plants are jammed up the world over which you may have heard about. We could have gotten in for a window of only 2500 copies but with there being historically on average 7543 of you wanting a a vault - we have decided to wait for the chance to print roughly that many. That sadly means that this years vault will arrive a bit later than usual. We will of course keep you updated as often as possible on the progress. Buy the new Adele album if you get the chance. It is great.

Also, we have adviced all members of Pearl Jam to not play Zoos in the future.

    Keep on rocking.”

Call me crazy. But I fail to see the problem with the solution or level of communicating above.

    XOXO
