Found out it will cost up to $750 to refurbish my old pioneer sx-750.  Is this worth it or could I get something better for the money?
No it's not worth it.  You can buy a better model for that much. You should be able to buy a working one for 2-300. It's on the lower end of their spectrum.

I just ordered a U-Turn Orbit Theory TT with a 2M Black cartridge as an upgrade from my previous setup of Audio Technica AT-LP5 with 2M Blue. Also just inherited some vintage Cerwin Vega D4 speakers from my dad that are apparently a very rare/unicorn model from the late 70s/early 80s. They’re in great shape.

Those older Cerwin-Vega speakers are awesome. They are often hated on on online forums for being "rock" or "party" speakers.

Maybe since I enjoy rock music is why I like them so much. They get a lot right. Well balanced, efficient and capable of playing loud without falling to pieces.

    Congrats and enjoy!

Does anyone have a basic guide (or a link) to setting up a record player without finding vintage gear?  My 40 year old Fisher Price sounds like junk ... but it works.  I plan on feeding it to a mixer with 1/4" inputs, so just need to know what will do that out of the box.  I can delve into the weeds later.  My budget is around $500.

I don’t know, this seems pretty high end audiophile. Maybe you just need new cables.

I like the color scheme.  Retro, before retro.  I think PJ ripped it off for the Dark Matter Tour merch.

    Looks awesome.
  • Try getting stands for those beautiful speakers.  I did it with my pioneers and it made the sound much better.

Posted in the vinyl thread too…

My nephew (14 years old) is just getting into vinyl. He’s looking for a record player, but doesn’t have a lot to spend, or a whole lot of space. Any recommendations for a starter record player which won’t break the bank?

I’ve heard that many of the stand alone all in one models are garbage, vs a higher end player as part of a set of assembled components. That said, not sure he’s an audiophile just yet, but needs more functionality. He’s based in the States in case that matters.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

How do you like that Orto black with the Uturn?
