Picked up this Dual 604 this weekend. It's in great shape for its age.

This is the first single play, direct drive Dual I've had. All of the others have been idler drive record changers. I love those old idler drives, I was just looking for something a little different.

This 604 has a way simpler operating mechanism than my 1019.

having one belt drive amongst all the idlers , I "need" a Dual DD....
It sounds like you have one hell of a collection of Duals! A 1229 is on my bucket list to restore. It's a true classic, for sure.

This 604 still has a couple things that need to be done but I have high expectations for it when it's finished. Seems like a lot of people really love the Dual direct drives and I'm super excited to compare this one with my 1019.

My Dual 1019 has remained the benchmark for all other 'tables to beat and so far, none have succeeded.

I got the strobe working today. This one is coming along nicely. So far, nothing has been too difficult to deal with. Definitely simpler than the Dual idler drive record changer models.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm slowly getting back into it. On a regimen of meds and laser treatments that are keeping my hands working until I can have surgery, probably next spring.

This turntable was a mess! It was absolutely filthy and it needed a belt, AC spark cap, motor service, main spindle bearing service, tonearm wire repair, azimuth adjustment for the headshell, new hinges and a new dust cover.

It turned out pretty well, I think. Everything works as intended, speed is accurate and it sounds really nice.

soo, I have a loose plan now. my job makes any hobby exceedingly difficult. BUT I woll have some time on my hands come December.  Left knee, Total Replacement.
So will be off for 3 months minimum. hope to dig into the 2265b and get to a few of the duals. also might want to fully recap the 2275 and look at the left channel cutout...

Cool! That should give you plenty to do.

I hope it's a quick recovery from surgery for you! Don't underestimate the importance of the post-op physical therapy.

  • Gifts from my friends parents and one of their friends…. The speakers came from my buddy’s parents. The sansui sp2000’s he bought in Vietnam and had shipped back to the states. The boxes were housing them. Next to those boxes are the actual Sansui lm330’s. I have no idea what the wicker surround speakers are. They look like speakers you’d hang in a studio. I’m unsure of those.

The Marantz 1250 came from the friends parents’ friend. There were other components but those haven’t been found yet.

Haven’t tested squat yet. Happy to have them though. I’ll give them a good home.

Very cool! That's an interesting case for the Marantz.

I thought it was a Spec when I saw it from the side. Still happy it was a Marantz!

Picked up a pair of B&W speakers today. I haven't heard them yet but I have high expectations. I've read nothing but great things about them.

They are DM602 S2 bookshelf speakers. I got a great deal on them because one of the tweeters has a small dent in it. Replacement diaphragms for these hard to come by but there are aftermarket ones that cost around $15.00. I figured they were worth checking out.

So far, I have only played a few songs through them. I can't hear any distortion from that tweeter. In fact, I think they sound very good. Lots of bass and a lot of detail. They will probably end up getting used as near field monitors in my home studio.

Those domes get damaged by heavy breathing.  It's ridiculous.  I recall reading that there should be no audible effect, just visual.  I have a pair of 602s and one is bent.  I can't tell.

Yeah, they seem pretty delicate. I have been playing them tonight and I can't hear any issues. I might dig into them at some point but they seem fine for now.

How do you like your 602s? Do you think they compare well to some of the other speakers you've had?

Got a steal on this early 90’s JVC XL-Z451.  Inside is clean af!!  Aside from the top cover it appears almost new. Sounds incredible to my hearing damaged ears!

Dark Matter gets the honorable first spin.

Very cool! Those are great players and very feature-rich. A buddy of mine has one and it sounds very good, indeed. Congrats!

    What are you doing?

I'm also getting an itch.  I spent meeting time yesterday shopping tube preamps.  Thinking about going with a hybrid system.

Going to hook up the old pioneer gear and maybe try out the marantz piece that was given to me.
