Speaker stands, what is everybody using?

For big floor standing speakers.  I see some nice walnut ones for sale on ebay, but thinking of making my own.

I'm confused.  You are going to put stands under floor standing speakers?

Yes.  The speakers should be on an angle so the sound comes at you better.

Thanks man. It was a lot of fun putting together. None of the equipment worked properly when I got it so it's extra rewarding that everything works, sounds great and cost next to nothing.

Before I would buy or build stands, I would experiment by sticking books or magazines under the front of the speakers to determine how much tilt you prefer.

Tilting your speakers back can have a profound effect on your listening experience. It's not always an improvement though. The size of the room, distance between speakers, distance to your listening chair, ceiling height, room furnishings etc. all contribute to the overall performance of your speakers.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

You ever think of angling them up?  I've tread up on placement and toyed around with mine and there is a considerable difference when you have them angled towards your ears.  In a nice chair in center I'm sure you get a nice sound.

    Nice setup.  Pioneer SX?

    Cool setup.

Those Kantos look like studio monitors. I'd bet they sound nice and smooth with the dome tweeters.

    Where's the Vault?!?

I have a question about these little speakers.

Do these actually produce a decent sound?  I have Martin Logan 15's and they sound great but my HPM100's sound way better.

    Curious.  THX Joe

Ha!  You're in the market again?  Are you happy with the Emotiva gear?
TT, you have some good choices.  But I would personally go with a Pro-Ject or Rega with the options you want.
Speakers...well that all depends on your listening space.  If you've got a small room, you need near field speakers.  You don't want big ole towers, likewise, if you have a large room then you need something full range.

Very happy with the Emotiva gear!  Still never upgraded the speakers, looking to do so over the next few months.

Yes, floor speaker stands are great. When I needed them, I liked just the black coated wire kind because they are almost invisible.

Like these in design, but the ones I used to have were less obvious - I guess made of much thinner, stronger material. (My ex got the speakers and the stands, so I don't have a photo of what I actually had).

a friend of mine saw this at a contents sale, crappy pic.  Anyone know what model the Technics turntable is?  Any suggestions if its worth buying and at what price? The receiver is a technics SA-EX310.

Not sure of the model number of the turntable. If it works and has a decent cartridge, $100.00 seems fair. It's hard to tell what it is from that pic but it's not an SL1200-mkII. That would be worth several hundred dollars.

I'd pass on the receiver unless it's really cheap and you need one for your garage or something.

I would be interested in hearing those speakers though. They appear to have pretty deep cabinets. IME and generally speaking, deep cabinets typically make for good, punchy bass.

Got into Vinyl about 6 years ago (I'm 36 so tapes were all the rage when I was a kid, never really got a chance to listen to record growing up). Put together a very basic set up of an Audio Technica LP60 TT, Denon 1613 reciever, and decent bookshelves - PSB Image 4's. Enjoyed that system over the past 6 years while I amassed a decent collection of LPs.

However, I decided to finally put some money into a decent TT this week, and wow, it feels like I've finally unlocked something that I was missing out on. Still have the same speakers, but got a Rega Planar 3 and a Rega Brio integrated amp, and man does it ever sound incredible!!! Just wanted to share in case there other's like me who are thinking about upgrading. I am so excited I feel like a little kid again.

That's awesome! Nice gear choices. Anything that gets you more excited about music is a good thing.
