Yes. I've never understood people who buy pets. I asked someone who was buying a dog once, she said that pets from shelters are dirty and diseased. So I figured only ignorant morons buy from breeders.

Yes! As is King of Queens.

Do the Italian ice guys still sell their tasty cool goodies in Queens in the summertime?

Of course! My favorite is rainbow.

    Is your favorite rainbow?

Mine was - I think - Mandarin chocolate.

    Is Alexander's still in existence?

One of our summers in NY, my sister and I went there and bought ourselves the Beatles Red (her) and Blue (me) albums.

    Still got mine :)

    I do not.
Alexander's does not exist anymore. It hasn't for a long time.

    Is change the only constant?

    I think so.

We're letting our new-hire (my office-mate) go tomorrow and it's been weighing on me all day...knowing she's going to be out of a job, probably as a surprise to her. That I know before she does, and how shitty she's going to feel.

She just wasn't up to the par needed but I so feel for her.

So! Ever pulled a chickenshit move?

(I'm taking off early so I don't have to face her afterward when she gathers her things)

I once had to fire someone because my boss was accusing a worker of stealing. I was to fire her for "stealing" money that I'm sure she didn't steal from another coworker. There was an intercom and I'm sure that she listened to the whole thing. I told her that I didn't want to fire her. I didn't believe that she did it. I sat there and cried with her. My boss was a heartless bitch and had absolutely no proof. I'm surprised that the girl didn't sue her. The boss never mentioned a thing about it to me. I think she knew not to go there.

Was today a difficult day to get up?

    Not any more than usual.

Will you speak with a friend (i.e. not a work buddy) today?

Yes, my best friend - my husband :)

Is a heatwave hitting your area starting today?

No, a cool wave is coming.

Does it look like rain may affect your weekend plans?

I can definitely empathize and imagine what it must be like to feel so hopeless.

(not sure if this was triggered by the one-year anniversary of Robin Williams' death; didn't realize it myself until I saw something in the news earlier)

Is having an ethical top-notch handyman invaluable? Getting our garbage disposal fixed right now - woohoo!

Yes, and lucky you for funding an ethical one!

Do you hire people for most home improvement project?

    =)

Some stuff my guy does but the bigger jobs, yes. Although we haven't done the biggies yet (new flooring, removal of cottage-cheese ceiling, etc.).

Do you wish you could just pull a Jeannie - blink your eyes and have it all done?
  • deadendpdeadendp Posts: 10,434
My husband tells me that he knows that I want the Jeannie-blink all the time!

Crisp breeze blowing your way this evening? (It's supposed to get hot, so enjoying air not cooled by machine right now.)

No, I wish (but hopefully when the sun goes down). Full AC going here right now!

Gotta keep the handyman cool =)

Guessing you've already had dinner, deadend, but is it an order-in-dinner kind of evening?
  • hedonisthedonist Posts: 24,524
    Yes it is!

So the chick I mentioned earlier who was being let go, has been let go. She just sent me a sweet text thanking me for teaching her about various documents and showing her the ropes over the last few weeks.

Is it inappropriate for me to reply? As a human being, I'd like to but I'm not sure of professional obligations.
  • SD48277SD48277 Posts: 12,243
I think it would be ok for you to reply. A simple: "You are welcome. I wish the best for you." Does that sound ok?

side note: Hedonist, do you watch Flipping Out (I know someone on here does, but can't remember who)?

I don't think it is. She's probably feeling really lost and betrayed. A nice reply may make her feel better. How would you feel if you were in her shoes?

Is this week just dragging on?

I think you're both right. Nothing wrong with being nice in kind, work protocol be damned. Thanks, you two!

RK, YES. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

And SD, I believe that was me. I absolutely love Jeff Lewis!

I may have asked this before, but is he Daniel Tosh's doppelganger?

Hedo, I thought it was you. I love Jeff, too. I'm just watching back-to-back episodes right now.

Yes, they do look a lot alike.

If you could afford it, would you have him renovate your house/place?
