I really feel the media is pushing a soccer agenda, for whatever reason.

    I AM an old man.

it's a lame sport and the whole format of the world cup is flawed.

they are targeting the hipster and/or gay crowd.

I have gay family members....I love them....but that's what it is.

and, I suppose, it's OK....I'll stick with our traditional sports.

    Wtf

I am pretty sure the reason for the increase in soccer's popularity is because in past 20 or so years it has become the 2nd most popular sport in terms of youth participation in America, not because of the gays/hipsters.

this is definitely true although there really isn't much interest in women's soccer. it's only during the World Cup and Olympics that anyone really cares. With the Women's National Team people in the US will jump on the bandwagon of anyone that wins big.

(only 11 years Cliffy for the men's run to a semi-final right?)

They are and the reason is money. Sports broadcasting is super profitable right now because so many people watch games live versus recording on DVR. By pushing soccer they are creating more interest and by extension more programming.

Well of course. I remember the 99 team being a much bigger deal than this team, so it is not like it is some overnight sensation though. I caught as much of the women's games as I could, but didn't go out of my way to watch them until the semi's.

I will stick to that being the case. I don't see why that is terribly unrealistic, assuming the current trends continue.

I honestly enjoy watching womens soccer more than mens. Why? Because the women, when they get tackled or fouled, don't roll around on the ground holding their knees looking for a call like a bunch of fucking pansies. Nope, the women get right back up and play.

Also, Alex Morgan is rather nice to look at! And probably spends less time on her hair than Ronaldo.

I wouldn't go this far, but I did find the women enjoyable to watch. It is fun to watch a US team possess the ball and dictate the pace of a game. I also found that the game was a bit more wide open than a lot of men's games, probably due to the fact that there is more space with the women being a bit slower.

Yep. Much less of the bullshit flopping and then laying on the ground screaming like they got shot.

Yeah. Every little kid seems to play youth soccer these days. Not really sure about the gay/hipster thing or what the hell that's even supposed to mean.

It's weird to me that people can't accept a spot becoming more popular.

I think it was meant as a joke. Actually it might be that I just kinda hope it was a joke and I'm projecting.

Hey did you guys hear nycfc finally announced that they signed Pirlo. Lamps makes his debut on Sunday, Pirlo will probably be two weeks after that. Yay football!

Well, in defense of the men, biologically speaking, women do tend to have a higher tolerance for pain.

That's about all I can come up with, though.

Until the machines take over, I guess we'll be forced to watch these silly humans commit their errors, with an asterisk for the umps in MLB; they can still commit them, but they are overruled by the machines now.
