    Half-welcome here?

Oh hell yes!  Always!  Not only because you are you, but but also because without Persians, I would not have a new mouse pad that is THIS cool:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

When was the last time a million Americans gathered in a square to shout "Death to [Name Your Country]!"  Never. Our government is not perfect. Much of our foreign policy is whacked. But by and large, we are a generous people who would never whip ourselves into a stampede over the death of a general. Quite simplistically, and I know unrealistically, I would love it if we pulled out of Iraq and let those people have that desert all to themselves to do whatever they want. Good riddance, I would say. The Middle East has been nothing but trouble from the beginning. I just can't understand or sympathize with the point of view of a people, a culture, who hatefully gather to shout "Death to America." Fuck that. God help us all. We've got a lunatic president leading us into a war against a country also led by lunatics.
You have completely ignored the US history in Iran.
I haven't ignored jack. I'm well aware of the bullshit the US has pulled in Iran and the oil industry. In the past year, I've read two different books by Iranian Americans about the revolution, and how anyone with brains got the hell out of that place while they could.

Yeah, that's right, our government isn't perfect, and they can have their damn oil as far as I'm concerned. Go solar, USA, and leave those idiots to drill oil we don't want or need. I have no problem with that at all. See what happens when nobody buys their damn oil because we've developed and lead the world in renewable energy. Absolutely bring that on.

But I'm not interested in living in a world where, as a female, I have to dress in a black sheet with nothing but an eye hole to see out of, or get stoned to death for walking down the street with without a male escort. All this false equivalency. Really? Go ahead, all of you and volunteer to move to to Iran if they're so worth defending.

At this point, I absolutely hope our military bombs Tehren into the ground. We can't sit back and let these religious fanatics attack our embassy and our bases without retaliation. Those are American citizens living in those spaces, whether we like it or not. They are someone's children, husbands and wives, parents. We can't let Iran or any other country just kill them without defending them.
Maybe you have read the history but you obviously haven't learned anything from it.

How did that war in Afghanistan go? Oh right, still happening.

How did that war in Iraq go?

20 years of war, hundreds of thousands of lives lost, trillions of dollars spent, and you want to jump back in again.

Your comment about murdering almost 9 million people was particularly disgusting and shameful. Why is it okay to kill them, what justification do you have to call for that? Just stop and think about it.

So what if the Iranian leaders and other middle eastern countries really wanted Soleimani gone?

Those missiles shot from Iran were just for show?

Iraq and everyone else is screaming for "deescalation" now.

Those missiles only hurt Iraqi civilians so they should be pissed, again, at Iran but don't seem to be jumping up and down like they should be.

Crazy thoughts?  Let's see what else happens.

Just imagine if this was all a coup?

Let me review what I have said here.

    1. Let's get out of the Middle East completely. It's been nothing but trouble since the beginning. Our govt has been shady in its dealings because of the stupid oil. We should lead in the development of alternative fuel sources so we don't have to deal with these lunatics anymore.

To which most of you responded: You know nothing!!

    2. American citizens and soldiers are in harm's way. We have an obligation to protect Americans. If we don't show a willingness to use our strength, Americans all over the world will be at risk.

To which most of you responded: But the Iranian women and children too!

    3. The theocracy in Iran is frighteningly antithetical to human rights. I have no sympathy for anyone aligned with a religion that promotes the oppression of its people.

To which most of you responded: But America!!

Every single one of your responses was completely predictable. 100%. America bad. Everybody else in the world a victim of America. Long live the rest of the world. America go to hell.

    It's disgusting. Listen to yourselves.

Let s be fair, Iran has been stirring the pot since Carter.
To be fair,  as a reaction to the ridiculous carving of the ottoman empire and subsequent 50 years as a client or puppet state.  I certainly don't blame the people.  However,  the Revolutionary Guard hasn't done its people any favors since 79.
You re going Ottoman Empire?! Wow.  And I can tell you didn’t google that.    You and I need to sit down one day and just talk history.

That's right.. that's what generated my reaction, the total disregard for the lives of hte citizens of Tehran.. and what was the reason?  Oh yeah, because the women are oppressed.  While that is deplorable, and they need to get out of the medieval ages, leveling a city seems to be over the top just a touch.

Heartbreaking that people are enduring decisions made by political leaders. :( I've always said that if the aliens attack our planet, people will remember we're all people here together. So much more could be accomplished on our planet if people worked towards that instead of plotting and planning against each other...and being greedy. Just a few thoughts. Be good to each other.

Listen to yourselves.
you left out the part that most were addressing: "let's bomb tehran into the ground", suggesting murdering all innocent civilians there.

    so yeah, that's an issue.

Actually, no. What you said was to bomb an entire city of about 9 million people nto the ground. That’s what’s disgusting.
I have some trouble seeing how levelling Tehran helps the women.
    You must hate America.
don't we all? I mean, it's cool to hate america. I know I've been hating 350 million people because of their government's foreign policy for years now. makes as much sense as murdering all the oppressed peoples of the world to free them from said oppression.

And don't forget the Saudi Air Force lieutenant who killed 3 people at a naval base *on American soil*. This story lasted, what, 48 hours?
