What's happening in my city is a rash of random sexual assaults. And not all by the same person. Several unrelated men seem to be going around sexually assaulting women on the street (and one in her own home in the middle of the day, but neighbors came (too late to stop a brutal rape unfortunately) and caught the guy and held him until cops arrived). This is a disturbing pattern to say the least.
Also, as an aside re how fucked up shit is, get this: I saw a poster ad on the train the other day. It was advertising not doing "honour" killings. We need commercials to try and convince people to not murder women who don't "behave" now, apparently.

Wtf is that PJ.Honor Killings? Is that related to strict sharia law stuff or some weird fundamentalist wacko shit?
In Winnipeg I've noticed they no longer come out saying "native male", its now "male, native in appearance". I guess that's because you don't legitimately know a person's true racial makeup simple by appearance. But it does not serve the public good by omitting physical characteristics. That is just stupid. They mention it for ALL people. Including "caucasion in appearance". It is just a fact, not an insult.

Yeah, it's the murders (or attempted murders, whihc are more common in the end) committed by families (usually at least one male family member, sometimes more, and sometimes a female family member is in on it, usually the woman's mother-in-law apparently) when they think a family member (invariably a woman) has shamed the family by doing x, y, or z (usually related to who they love or who they might or might not have fucked). Killing them is the only way to restore honour to the family. Yes, this is practiced by some fundamentalist Sharias and other fundamentalist religious groups that place women below men (which is a big problem in the world still), but the practice isn't limited to those who practice Sharia law.... it does seem limited to Muslims and, more rarely, Sikhs, but that could just be because of the specific population in metro Vancouver. It seems to me that it's much more about disgusting views towards women than it is real religion. These men never come off as super religious guys. They come off as revolting pigs who are using religion/tradition as an excuse to be evil and dominate a woman in their life. I mean, the only difference between these kinds of killings and other murders committed by whoever (murderous joe schmoe who killed his girlfriend for cheating on him, which we all know happens pretty regularly) is that these particular scum bags drag religion into it. So isolating the religious "wackos" here doesn't seem fair at all.
Anyway, the fact that there are ads on trains trying to convince these pigs not to consider such acts is pretty fucked up IMO. I dunno, doesn't it suggest that those who created the ad think these fucks are reasonable people who would otherwise be good people? And that they really don't know any better? I take exception to that idea. It's almost like in the attempt to try and get people off the idea, it normalizes the concept, and almost admits that somehow murder justified by religion is different from murder justified by plain old evil fuckery. So that's messed up on more than one level. It brews and stirs up stereotypes that are prevalent locally (yes, there were photos of men obviously from India and the middle east on the poster, so we knew exactly who it was meant for), while making it seem like it's a lesser crime than "regular" murders all at the same time.

Adds for honor killings in canada? Damn, I didn't even know it was a problem up there. You'd think the media would be all over this being that they're Muslim.

Never even knew about those, but I saw a completely different kind of ad, and I'm pretty sure it was made within BC. It was about how honour killings are against the law, like an FYI. There was a photo of a cop on it (a female cop). The point was to explain to men considering it that they should reconsider since they'll get in trouble.

What was your point? You said you didn't know honour killings occurred in Canada.
My point is that you go out of your way to point out all the faults with the Muslim religion. But yet stay quiet on the rest. Don't act like a dumb ass now. Not after you claim to know more then anybody when it comes to politics. You knew exactly what I meant.
I didn't even mean to open this can of worms. I just thought that ad was really fucked up! Oh, speaking of which, I also recently saw a flyer on a bus about how men who are thinking about following a woman off the bus in order to sexually assault her should rethink his plan because it's against the law and basically not nice. But that wasn't government sponsored. I'm not sure who put those up. They don't seem to be working though (going back to my original comment about what's happening in Vancouver).

Tis the season for armed Robberies and typical hooligans with the warming weather, but is anyone else noticing the media in your town refusing to print or report the most significant factor in identifying a offender??? How are people concerned for their own and families safety supposed to keep an eye out for such individuals when the only description you get now is as general as " a young Person wearing a white-T and blue jeans" or a "male between the ages of 18-30" . Perhaps it's just the media in my Shitty, but I am just curious to see if this is going on in other big cities as well. I feel the honest discussions about race that was all the rage last fall needs to start with the Media....not many people trust the Police anymore so that's out.
I guess we're fairly fortunate in these parts in that the local news generally reports things pretty much straight up.
But I'm a bit confused about a few things here, muskydan.
You use the work "feel" but don't say what the feeling is- anger? Frustration?
You mention "the honest discussions about race that was all the rage last fall". By "rage" are you being facetious or implying that the discussion was dishonest? Or has the discussion in general just dropped off?
Also, I'm wondering- do you believe it is the job of the media to instigate discussion rather than simply report the news?
Yes, it is frustrating. Especially when you write a report w/ specific indentifiers from a legit victim and the media refuses to give out those specific identifiers. The General public has a right to know who to look out for and a description always starts with ethnicity.
I definately think those discussions are dishonest. Nobody will touch this issue w/ a 10 foot pole since nobody in politics want's to be categorized a racist. That's what those honest discussions will lead you too...always does. Let's just start w/ the hands up don't shoot nonsence that turned out to big a massive lie and go from there...
I woujd love for the media to report just the NEWS, that's why I only can handle watching FOX News and the sexiest news caster Ever.....Miss Megan Kelly...hubba hubba..lol

I woujd love for the media to report just the NEWS, that's why I only can handle watching FOX News and the sexiest news caster Ever.....Miss Megan Kelly...hubba hubba..lol
seriously hope that you are kidding
Oh come on, lolo, it's the American way. Why get real news when you can tune into Fox T. 'n A.?
Fox's motto: "The news may be Faux, but the boobs are real."
Don't be so positive on the boobs being real brian. I do know one thing that's real. Megan Kelley farting on the air. It happened.
I remember that too, I thought it was hot. She must have been thinking about King NObama
Dude, you are relentless, LOL!
I try…we need more laughs on here. It's the Only way i get through my many fucked up days. But I draw the line when someone busts on my TV girlfriend..lol
OK, fair enough!

Also, as an aside re how fucked up shit is, get this: I saw a poster ad on the train the other day. It was advertising not doing "honour" killings. We need commercials to try and convince people to not murder women who don't "behave" now, apparently.
