  • What would a PJ event be without all of these conversations the week before! All part of the experience. Can't wait till Saturday.

The city is probably the safest it has been in decades. Mire likely, the wealthy and powerful living nearby don't want too much disturbace after their bedtime :)

My thought as well; also, it takes a while to clear out 60,000 people after a show. Source: been to Lollapalooza in Chicago quite a few times - it takes at least 30-45 minutes for everyone to clear out of Grant Park after the last artist of the night, and then the dismantling of all the facilities and cleanup begins.

So, since we cant even bring in water or any food, and they ran out of water and food at the venue last year, Im thinking im not the only one who will be going in a little later.

Anyone going to be at any cool bars pregaming? Ive got about 5 hours to kill midday.

How strict was secuirty in previous years? Bag check obviously and metal detectors, right? Hand-held ones or the full walk through?

I am curious about this as well. Can anyone who has attended in previous years comment on how thorough the bag check and security process is? ;)

In FAQ it says you can bring in a clear plastic bag of food. No containers.

I printed the one out from FAQ b/c I want to bring in a sandwich...I was surprised it was there.

IV. QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GLOBAL CITIZEN FESTIVAL EVENT

What time do the gates to Central Park open? What time does the Festival start and end?

The gates to the Great Lawn open at2pm. The Festival is projected to begin at 3pm, and end by 10:00pm. But make sure you get there early to be first in line! What are the set times or order the Artists are playing?

We will not be releasing set times, or the order of Artists. With the amazing lineup, get there early to enjoy the whole show!

What am I allowed to bring into Central Park? What is prohibited?

The prohibited and allowed items will be listed on your Tickets.

Will there be food/drink sold at the Festival?

Yes, there will be food and drink vendors.

    Can I bring food in?

Yes, you are permitted to bring food into the event, however it must be in a clear bag and no containers are permitted.

Yeah I mean I hear you, I just am not playing this game with them. "You cant bring water or food, we dont serve alcohol, and we want to keep you in here for 7 hours." Ill spend my money elsewhere.

In my experience, the allowance of food will be like every other venue, at the guy at the doors discretion, and youll be lucky to get anything in. Thats why they contradict themselves, so they can do either.

Im not interested in any of that mess, ill arrive at 6 for PJ and queue up. Id like to hit a bar from 2-6 tho...so if there are any other maniacs like me, let me know where youd like to meet, and ill buy first round!

I hear you too, I go to GCF every year but my BF went the first year and said NEVER again...unless PJ plays..so here we are :-) Even last year I was like I think this will be my last, it truly is a real Pain in the Ass.

I do suspect they will take my food and I will be pissed...but I'm gonna try....

It's the fucking city that never sleeps.............. fuck a 10pm curfew

I hear ya but it's Central Park. Park is supposed to close at sundown. I don't think the curfew is so much about noise rather it's about safety. 60,000 people wandering through the dark woods is not a great idea.

Especially so this weekend with the Pope in town Friday and entire UN in session. I think we're all lucky the Pope is leaving before Saturday.

What time are you nuts planning on starting to queue? You think 11am is too late to get into 1st pen in GA?

I plan to get there way earlier than that. But that's just because I'm really a nut that wants that rail. It's whatever preference you have. But I haven't been to GCF in the past, so I don't know what time to make first pen

Tickets are available for print through Ticketmaster now. Just got mine.
I can't attach a photo for some reason but it essentially lists everything the website says is prohibited.

I'm sure it's been brought up a few times, sorry to repeat, but does anyone know for sure that the only section with alcohol is vip1? Also, with that many people going in, how tough are they searching each person? Thanks in advance!

If you arrive at very different times say 1h30, you will most likely end up in different pens. Two years ago, we arrived an hour earlier than the rest of the group and ended up a pen closer to stage than them.

    yes only vip1
vip1 gets you access to a tent where they have an open bar
there are no for sale alcohol stands anywhere
and you can only get in that vip tent if you have vip1 credentials

i believe the people who have access to the tent can only drink booze in the tent and cant bing them back to the concert area

  • Anyone attending this with their kids? Taking my son to his first show. Want to get there early and get a good spot, but know that we'll be taking the necessary breaks together and getting it back may not be possible. If anyone wants to try and meet up so we could trade off for those sorts of things let me know!

Don't know if this has been posted, but got an e-mail and saw an FB post saying:

"PSSST! This just in: Doors to the Global Citizen Festival will open as soon as there's enough people in the park! Get there between 12-2 to be the first one in."

Not going, but worth the asking. 12 - 2 AM or 12 - 2 PM?

PM. Doors were originally 2PM, but I guess now they are going to open the park early if there are a ton of people waiting.

  • I'm taking my girlfriend with me to GCF and have a few questions for those who have been to the festival in the past. For starters, how tightly do they pack people into the GA pens? Are you standing shoulder to shoulder with everyone or can you find places where you have a little more space? Also, I read that you can't bring in chairs but are they really strict about the no blankets thing? Is it realistic to find places on the lawn or elsewhere to sit down if we don't feel like standing for several hours?
