Bands play like 8 songs at this. Just be aware before you make travel plans that you'll likely be getting 1/2 of a regular main set of a Pearl Jam show.

I was at the first two, headliners get a pretty decent set. Now that I'm further away from NYC, it would have to depend on the other artists in the lineup if PJ were to play, to sway me. But I had a great time both years, and would totally go again.

We went the first year. Fun experience and an amazing lineup with Neil, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, and Band of Horses. But we were so far away. Thankfully there were big screens because otherwise I'm not sure I ever saw the stage with my own two eyes.
PJ will probably be at this event. Their photo is on the Global Citizen site and this was already hinted at elsewhere on the this forum. They will play a long set, like they usually do when they headline festivals. We probably won't get too many lost dogs, but we will get a killer show.

The same photo / link has been up since September 2013. An artist that contributes to Global Citizen since 2013, it would be shocking if they don't at least play one of these Global Citizen's festival events. Killer show yes but don't think they will get a 2 hour slot. No other band since they started doing these Global Citizen festivals has had a long set. Gotta share the stage time with the other acts / performers. It wouldn't be far to hog up a lot of time from Global Citizen, being that it's a free concert to the public and all.
how do you go to this? its a free event so you just show up?
Yes, free, and you win tickets. You gain points on the Global Citizen website by reading articles on global/social change topics, then sharing it via FB/twitter, signing petitions, taking quizzes. Once you have X amount of points, you can enter the ticket draw. Most people who enter get in, since they give away so many tickets. If not, I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who has an extra.

Will there be charging stations?

The outlying area that's used for bathrooms/food/merch/etc isn't too big, and because of that pretty crowded. So if there are charging stations (I don't remember), it would probably be difficult to use. I'd go pocket charger! Nifty thing to have anyways.

is the only US show this year? or MSG is to be expected?
I have no inside info, but it on the surface it doesn't make a lot of sense that the band would haul all of their gear and some (or all) of their crew across the country to play an hour long set that I presume they won't get paid for.
I think worst case is there are a couple of other shows similar to 2012. Best case would be 10-12 shows in cities they've skipped so far for Lightning Bolt (I see this scenario as highly unlikely since there are zero rumors out there for North American shows).

Don't think they would be taking all , or even most, of their equipment. Or even crew for that matter.

Yes, they take their techs for these shows as well as their own gear.

I know that. I am saying for a one off charity show they may not take the full crew and gear they would on a tour.
