Absolutely right OP, folk paying $175 for a Gydnia or Santiago sticker is crazy. Of course they are free to do as they like, but its ridiculous to me too. I collect PJ passionately but refuse to pay these prices.....I only 'need' Santiago and in what is a weird shift in mentality for me, I will happily live without it at those prices.

    Gasp! You're reformed!
I was gonna say...I just stumbled upon Paul's amazing collection yesterday. So this is where we draw the line?

Fortunately, I got in at the ground floor with stickers, really enjoy trading with people and have acquired every city specific sticker (2012-present) at cost (plus shipping on trades).

Collecting to me is about the hunt. Anyone can throw a handful of money at an eBay auction to get what they want. If that makes them feel "complete" then good on them...I guess. Personally, collecting is meeting like-minded people, trading, and helping each other out.

Some people around here need to be the biggest fan and they'll throw whatever money they can at an item to make sure they own it. If that's how you collect then so be it. If that makes it harder for me to collect what I'm looking for...well I'm up for the challenge. :)

I don't get the sticker thing so i'm with you on that one.

That being said I know alot of people that don't get the vinyl thing. Why would you spend when $30 on an album when you've already got it on cd, or could buy it on itunes for $10? lol.

I don't understand everything people collect and I don't think I need to. I understand collector mentality, so I'm guessing there's enough people interested in stickers that it's created a market for them.

I would have liked a St Paul sticker, only because I was there, but for $25 or whatever the hell it's going for? Meh. I also would haved liked the button and the shirt, but you know, when greedy pieces of shit buy all of them up at the merch table so they can flip on secondary market/trade bait, what are you going to do? it's this band's fault for not limiting purchases at shows; one of each item per person. no exceptions.

and it's not really surprising that something as seemingly worthless as a sticker would gain in popularity and then demand and then price. look at stamps. same thing. any time something says "limited" on a pearl jam item everybody loses their shit.

except those track suits. LOL. which a guy behind me in St Paul was wearing, btw. I thought it looked awesome!

I was going to try and collect stickers from all of the shows I've been to, but quickly changed my mind when I saw how crazy the whole sticker scene is. No thanks to that.

Can we still spend 4 hours though lining up in the parking lot?

Don't collect them either, other than from the shows I've gone to the last couple years so they can be framed along with my ticket and poster from the show.

Holy shit, in didn't know it was that put of control. I'm glad I'm not into the stickers! I've got enough on my plate just with my vinyl collection! ;)

I'm done with them myself. After last fall's tour, seeing how greedy some people get over it, it's not worth the hassle. I'll buy a show poster either from the artist or 10C, have a better shot at either of those outlets than actually at the show (crazy, isn't it?). Done with stickers, pins, and waiting in lines for 3 hours when I could be seeing the city.

yeah, when my wife and I saw the lineup at the merch truck outside the venue in st paul, I looked at her and said "no way am I wasting our day in a new city waiting for merchandise". she's not even a fan of the band, she already indulges me once a tour lately, so I wasn't going to do that to her (or myself, for that matter)! and it just seems so ludicrous to wait in line for hours for a poster/pin/shirt/whatever.

Everybody would look like a bunch of zombies...wandering aimlessly around the arena property...looking for something to spend their money on. And yeah...I'd be one of them...

This would cause the rise of fan made merch. I'm not sure when this idea is so shunned anyways.

why are fan made stickers so bad? it's not like the quality is being compromised. it's a sticker. if I knew how, and if I cared, i'd do the same thing (although, I wouldn't waste my time selling them on ebay).

well, there are certain fan made stickers being sold on ebay where collectors think they are official and going for lots of money. There's been times where the seller doesn't exactly specify they are fake/fan made. Plus there's that entire proprietary/legality issue

I mean the non-counterfeit, fan made stickers that do not reference Pearl Jam. Maybe a song or lyric reference, but not Pearl Jam. Why do people give so much hate to this?

but if it looks the same, why does the buyer care? I get the legality issue, but come on, how many of us have bought unofficial items of this band without hesitation in the past?
