I'm glad he got life in prison (hopefully with no chance for parole) and not the death penalty. I believe that a monster like this should have to live with the weight of his actions for the remainder of what is hopefully a long and brutal life. As a taxpayer, I would have no problem letting those dollars go to prolonging said suffering (and for anyone that has an issue with taxpayer's dollars going towards a human's suffering, they probably had better think about how many lives are lost from the over 50% of the USA's budget going towards military purposes, and what agendas the people who start these militaristic ventures possess).
But Badbrains, is there a discussion or debate you want to start from the story?
I can think of a good one straight away: how we ought to witness man's inhumanity to man, to use these case studies to repel us from such atrocities, and to remind us to never let our moral compasses go on autopilot and deviate towards anything like it. The way I see it, we as humans are riding one car, and with no hands on the wheel, but full throttle on the accelerator, we can not simply proceed straight - we veer off course. We need to put a conscious effort to keep hands on the wheel, to be aware of our crooked tendencies, and to fight the collective momentum of evil with some sort of positive force.
On the converse, a discussion could just as easily be had about the potential for becoming numb and desensitized in this fucked up modern society. I know I've certainly felt it from time to time, where I say to myself, "this is so incomprehensibly disturbing and wrong, yet I feel nothing".

You are correct monsters everywhere. This is sick and disturbing. Stick to your guns man. Hopefully people will post comments about this article and not question why you posted it, that just derails things.
Sick post - death penalty for him no questions asked (or trial)
No trial? Have I misunderstood your comment, or are you in fact advocating for no trial? Because our police service is perfect? They have never arrested the wrong guy, or acted on misinformation? With a quick search I could find one, or two, or a hundred, cases of people wrongfully accused or even wrongfully convicted of heinous crimes.
These acts, if they did occur, are indescribably awful. We don't actually know if they did occur, and if they did, if this guy committed them.
Since the original article has been removed I'm only going on memory from having seen the link to this article from the other thread, but I think this guy just got arrested over the weekend, so no finding of guilt yet.

No. I did not even read the article for fear of puking.
I assumed this was a guilty guy awaiting sentencing. So I jumped and said death to him.
I can't even believe I am talking about this article, sick
Having a bad thought in the brain and always saying what your bad thought in the brain is resonates with others and makes you say some things you don't want to.
The thread you linked here makes me think backseatlover is two different people. I'm confused.
exactly my point. total hypocrisy.
Really now. I stand my point as I made in that thread:
Have images ever scarred your mind? Because I can read about them and wince, and not forget for a while, but the sight of something horrific tends to stay with you… much longer.
Who knew that our feeds are protected thanks to those whose eyes are burned by gruesome and disgusting content. At the same time, I hate censorship, but this really makes you rethink things.
Deviance will always reside in society, it's up to us whether we see it or not, perhaps? And how abundant it is in the public eye?
I am one person, and I thank those who moderate disgusting content. And now I leave these toxic forums, thanks for posting stories meant to only shock.

Shared in disbelief I think would be fairer.
You speak to BB's motivation a little unfairly. I highly doubt he's perusing the web looking for awful things to post so he can be the 'King of Gross'.
Thanks thirty, that's def NOT what I do. I share all kinds of stories both fucked up or in fun. I start threads that are jokes and I start threads that have to do with the real world. What gets me is that I try to make the title as clear as possible as to whoever doesn't want to read or see article/video can skip. No one told these people to click the link to watch or read. Don't like the headline, go post a pic of vedder in his thread.
I have 2 little girls at home. Regardless of whether or not I click on the link, I see your topic. Every day. So that means every time I come here, regardless of whether or not I enter your thread, I see a topic about a horrific thing done to a 19 month old girl. EVERY TIME.
The world is a shitty place. There's a lot of really disgusting things out there. Nobody needs to see it here. And it doesn't do any good. I'm not saying people should be censored. I'm saying they should censor themselves.
Here is how AMT is described in the forum listing:
Politics, current events - reasoned debate and discussion - we can all learn something new.
What debate or discussion can be had over a story like this, and what can we learn? There's no debate: it was a horrific story. There's no discussion: it was a horrific story. What did I learn? Nothing. F'd up people do f'd up things in this world. I don't come to this forum to be reminded of this fact. Politics, trends, big news stories...all good here. Just use some discretion. That's all.
But again, that's just me. I respect the fact that others here might not agree with me.
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"

Bin...
I get where you are at. I have not deliberately been trying to provoke an argument with you or Last 12 or Backseat.
If anything, a reasonable discussion occurred as to the level of content one should expect to find on the MT.
I just thought it was unfair to 'attack' BB for what some felt was a lack of judgement. I think it would have been fairer to just say something like, "You know what? I find these topics really disturbing. I can't participate in these types of discussions- they're too much for me. I wish we didn't have to hear of such events."
For some, coming across news such as this is easier to digest sharing their dismay with others. Internalizing such a headline should not be a requirement of every individual. I have always felt that this community was one that people could access with a high degree of tolerance and understanding.
There are people in the other thread that have been asking where to locate the video of the Jordan pilot burning. I don't wish to see it, but for whatever reason... they do. I am not judging them for this: they have their reasons.
Bin,It's like the content on the evening news.If it disturbes you don't watch.Hell don't turn on your tv.
We cannot bury our heads in the sand because of the evils in this world.

I watch the news to see what is going on. Same as going to a news site.
I'm not suggesting ignorance. I'm suggesting there's a time and a place. 1-off disgusting news stories about the worst people imaginable...on a PJ board that happens to have some non-PJ forums...really?
Anybody can copy and paste a url. I'm just saying a little discretion is not a bad thing. Whether or not people choose to click on a topic to see the discussion, they still see the topic. Sometimes that is the worst part.

take some ownership on clicking in the thread that was described in the title just as it was. it's not like the thread title was misleading or lacking information. your fault, not anyone else's.
Not that BB needs defending, but I just wanted to throw my 2 cents into the discussion. What he posted has actually started a discussion. It may not be the discussion intended, or a discussion specifically about the original post, but a healthy discussion nonetheless. I did open the thread when it had the original title. I read the first paragraph and decided I didn't need to read any more of it. But I am interested in how the discussion evolved. I self-censor what I read. For some reason I can tolerate a lot of horrible things, except when it comes to kids and animals. I don't care to read all of the details. But the discussion has touched on the death penalty, shock value, censorship, etc... I think that is healthy. The other thing this forum does is allow people to express shock, and get immediate feedback from others who are sympathetic. The forum can be a therapeutic way for people to deal with something by talking about it, rather than simply internalizing it and having it eat you up. So I'd rather people post what they feel they need to, and I can decide what to read, what discussions to participate in, and how I react to what is posted.

Sorry, but I am not buying that. I hear what you are saying and I know what you mean, but it's not that easy. Why did I click on it? Because seeing it listed among the other threads stuck out like a sore thumb and the topic alone I found to be very disturbing. I can't "un-see" topics. the topic wording was every bit as bad as the information found in the article.
It just seemed like a "look at me" kind of post with no real basis for a debate or discussion.

so I guess the lesson here is "think before you click". not to beat a dead horse, but you are angry with someone posting a story about something that you are now disgusted with seeing in your feed but you knew what you were doing when you clicked on it and commented.

Not that BB is bad at all, and I never meant he was, just that sometimes crap gets flung around and it isn't pretty, the way we treat each other isn't pretty and the stories sometimes, they're not meant to cause debate nor discussion but for shock value.

As for BS12's comment....
