to be fair to the dems of 2001-2003 though, they initially had to vote for the patriot act, or they would have been branded as unamerican evildoers. renewing it is what i blame them for.
Status quo. Stay aligned with the status quo and you stay a part of American politics. There is no room for independent thought or voice in American politics or you get branded an unpatriotic evil doer.
"And damn dude, you think mainstream dems are to conservative? Are you for real? Do you really fall that far left?"
There is no far left. There are no socialists, no communists, no radicals in office on the left. It is a myth perpetrated by the likes of Limbaugh and OReilly. How can you suggest the Dem party is too liberal when they wholeheartedly accept TARP, Iraq war, Patriot Act, NSA spying, whistleblower prosecution, capital cronyism, Citizens United etc. etc...
bernie sanders is a socialist who caucuses with the dems.
sanders and elizabeth warren are the only true progressives in all of congress.
to be fair to the dems of 2001-2003 though, they initially had to vote for the patriot act, or they would have been branded as unamerican evildoers. renewing it is what i blame them for.
Gimme the only problem with Bernie Sanders is that he may become Dennis Kucinich, whom the media ridiculed and got rid of. Sanders has to be very careful he doesn't become the next victim.
I would welcome the brave politician from either party who had the stones to buck the system.Run on a 1 term platform. No worries about campaign finance and the heavy porked up good ol' boy network bullshit.
I know it won't happen,But it's sure nice to think one day it could.
But RR, to me you come across very much a republican. I could be wrong. But you're pretty adamant of your views that lean that way. So getting a candidate to buck the system doesn't really sound like someone who holds your views. Maybe I'm reading your views wrong? Idk. Doesn't sound like something someone with your strong views would want. Again, I could be reading your posts wrong.
I'm not a republican Nart.Im a proud independent.I vote for who I think will be the best person for the job Its true I usually lean Rep but I don't follow any party line.I am Fiscally conservative,And don't think bigger Govt is the answer to what ails us.I want a better Govt.Im not an abuse of/Overdoing entitlement fan.And of course I'm for a strong Foriegn policy and common sense taxation. But at the same time socially I'm pretty progressive.Im a live and let live guy.Im pro choice, pro legalized MJ,pro stem cell research, could care less who someone marries,or what religion or not someone worships. And there are concepts of Obama care I think are a great step forward(other parts not so much).I am also concerned about the environment and pushing forward with common sense alternative and sustainable energy.
The Religious right and much of the Tea Party platform is not in line with a lot of my values.Same can be said for people like Reed,Feinstein,Pelosi.
As a buisness owner It's hard not to lean right on many issues.I find myself weighing out the positive and negative impacts policy has on me and how the world I live in is affected. And choosing who and what to support based on that criteria. There are a few issues I feel very strong about and they usually trump other issues when it comes down to it.
John McCain Stands By Calling Protesters 'Low-Life Scum': 'I Think They're Terrible People' Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday that he will not apologize for calling protesters "low-life scum" at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing earlier this week.
"I think they're terrible people," McCain said of Code Pink, the women-led grassroots peace and social justice group that protested the hearing, in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union."
Code Pink brought signs and handcuffs into the hearing to protest the presence of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, demanding that he be arrested for his role in alleged war crimes during the Nixon and Ford administrations. The protesters objected to the U.S.'s use of the poisonous chemical Agent Orange in the Vietnam War, the bombing of Cambodia and other issues.
McCain, the chairman of the committee, became particularly enraged when a member of the group dangled handcuffs over Kissinger's head. "You're gonna have to shut up or I'm going to have you arrested," McCain said at the hearing. "Get out of here, you low-life scum."
The Arizona Republican said Sunday that he stands by his comments because the protesters went beyond the bounds of constitutional free speech.
"I think they're terrible people that would do that to a 91-year old man with a broken shoulder, to physically threaten him," McCain said. "That is beyond any normal behavior I have ever observed."
"I'm used to people popping up at these these hearings and yelling, and they're escorted out -- that's at least some version of free speech," he added. "These people rushed up, they were right next to him, waving handcuffs. He's a 91-year old man with a broken shoulder who was willing to come down and testify before Congress to give us the benefit of his many years of wisdom."
McCain said Kissinger is the greatest statesman of his lifetime, maybe even "the whole 20th century."
"Of course I was outraged, and I am still outraged," he told CNN. "It's one thing to stand up and protest. It's something else to physically threaten an individual, particularly an individual who has served so much to his country."
Way to be Mr. McCain....I couldn't think of a better way to describe those idiots as low life scum. You sir never ever ever need to apologize to any Clueless protester. To all those who always seem to think they are smarter than everyone else in the room I sure hope you have travelled this big world of our's and better yet to a Socialist society...All of these people want to be is free and do and say things they believe in. That's been my on the scene opinion in this fascinating country of Vietnam. This country is exploding with opportunity, but it just will NOT happen totally according to all the business owner I have talked to until the government and commie ways are eliminated.....

"I couldn't think of a better way to describe those idiots as low life scum. You sir never ever ever need to apologize to any Clueless protester."
Yes, because those who exercise their right to free speech are "low life scum". Some people "always seem to think they are smarter than everyone else in the room" so you are going to tell them how they are wrong because you went to a country that we dropped more bombs on than were dropped in the entirety of WWII and talked to some business owners? You jangle on about freedom but is it just a word to you? Freedom of speech? Nahh. Arrest the scum. But, wait, "All of these people want to be is free and do and say things they believe in." Which is it gonna be?
If people who protest in poor taste are lowlife scum, what does that make rapists, murderers, and molesters? I seriously would like an aswer to this.
For that matter, if protesting Agent Orange and secret bombing campaigns with handcuffs makes you lowlife scum, what do you call a man who votes to send American Troops to an illegal conflict under false pretense and then votes against the bill which would extend the proper benefits and support to the veterans of that particular illegal conflict??
So does that mean we're gonna go BACK to Vietnam dan? In the first sentence you're basically calling those people idiots for speaking their minds and the last couple of sentences you're saying the Vietnamese all want to do is speak their minds, and the people want the government to change it's commie ways. Dude, you're all over the place. I think you just talk to sound cool and troll. That's just me. Where you been all these years? We've had some crazy discussions in the past and all of a sudden, bang, muskydan appears out of no where.
Hey G, my old school ways would prefer all sorts of nasty things to happen to murders, rapests, and molesters and I will just leave it at that. I have worked all sorts of protests over the years defending those people you described. Obviously I can never say anything to them while in uniform doing my job protecting them so when I hear and POW hero blast those types of protesters on record I feel I have a voice. I can tell there are a number of closet commies on here that think living in a society like that would be some sort of utopia. I sure hope they have been to a socialist society and seen for your own eyes what it's really like. Books and blogs don't mean shit until you feel it for yourself. And BB, sorry I was late to the party and don't check or post 20 things a day. I am the type of guy who tries to stick with stuff I have seen with my own eyes. And obviously my eyes see things differently than 99% of the people on here. I would think it would be great to have someone on here that goes against most people's views instead of the stroke each other off sessions I always read.
Closet commies lol ok Mr McCarthy It isn't at all relevant to the topic, but I will bite. What socialist societies have you visited? It is interesting that you reference Vietnam, which has been ravaged by war waged by capitalists, ravaged by capitalist outsourcing (particularly in the garment industry), and ravaged by a lack of worker's rights, which are typically provided by the commies. The average textile worker in Vietnam would gladly trade places with the lowest paid workers in such socialist strongholds as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, or our neighbors to the north, Canada.

Railing against commies and socialists, nice…. I bet you think the US is a democracy, right? It’s not. If I can share your condescension in calling people ignorantly utopian, then I’ll give you a pass if you want to call it a constitutional republic. But if we want to be realistic, lets call it what it really is – an oligarchy. Just like pinko RUSSIA.
So many layers of irony in thinking that ‘feeling’ Vietnam is legit reassurance of the US’s ideological superiority. We have to go to a third world country to understand the evils of socialism….right?
Seeing what it’s ‘really like’ to be in a socialist society can be ‘felt’ in a short vacation to Vietnam? Would you go to Venezuela and come back telling us how badly socialism has fucked that country up, too?…when the situation for the poor in Venezuela improved immensely due to socialist policy, resource barter practices, and localized communal council? They decreased extreme poverty by 70% in a few years. How do you think the US came out of the great depression? War….and socialist infrastructure investment.
But hey….if you support a war monger like McCain, who in turn admires and supports the super-elite of hawks – Kissinger – I would fully expect a dearth of perspective. Kissinger is the ‘brains’ behind the slaughter of millions in southeast Asia. He was the principal architect of the overthrow of Allende and the rise of Pinochet. I wouldn’t even know where to begin with a body count resulting from his policies. McCain would have been worse if anyone took him seriously enough to give him the reigns. If all you care about is US hegemony, these guys are right up your alley…..and any system designed for wealth equality (socialism) really IS evil.
I don’t give a fuck if Kissinger is 91 with a busted shoulder. Two years ago, a 98 year old was detained for WW2 war crimes and died while awaiting trial. Fuck Kissinger, he doesn’t get a pass for being old. And fuck McCain too -The guy has been photographed meeting with both ISIS members and Ukrainian Nazi’s in the past year…..all the while calling for war against countries that support fascists and extremists. He is 10x the low life these harmless protesters are.
I guess when you keep your fleshlight lined with the stars n bars it's easy to look down on progressive thought as a circle jerk.

Totally appreciated and it wasn't really a scolding. I get it and am about to bring a shitload of Knob Creek Bourbon in there. I'm only making a fuss cause I constantly see people on threads such as this argue "free speech' until their blue in the face. They think it is completely reasonable for Code Pink to act like clowns in a senate hearing while at the same time believe these forum topics must be strictly adhered to.
Also...for the record...what Code Pink does is NOT free speech. They act to stifle speech. A bipartisan group of secretaries of state were invited to discuss some serious topics. Code Pink's goal was to drown out and discredit the people they didn't agree with. This kind of nonsense is happening more and more these days in government, on university campuses and dare I say even this fan forum. Whether we are discussing what happened to Henry Kissinger, Bill Maher, Ayan Hirsii Ali, or even Forum members, childish people shout the words "Hate" at those they don't want heard. Too me that's behaving like a low-life. Too me that's behaving like scum.
BS- in your books, from what I'm getting from your posts, kill over 1,000,000 people in the world, thumbs up, hell ya!!! Now go and "protest" with words interrupting that said devil, shame on them! Damn scumbags! You're to much BS.

RR, I was the one who made it into a conflict, the blame lies solely on me!
BS44, I get where you are coming from, but it isn't as inconsistent as it seems at first glance. First, many of us (me for sure) condemned that expression of free speech by Code Pink as bad behavior, and wouldn't deny it caused conflict. Second, nobody called you low life scum or anything nasty, and being asked nicely to discontinue a line of expression is not censorship, being threatened with consequences for a line of expression is. I don't think that's what happened. I could be wrong, it happens alot. Third, it is a huge difference between this privately owned and operated forum that we pay to use and the public hearings at which Kissinger was heckled. It was poor taste, but I would argue that often the most effective dissent is rooted in it's ability to shock, upset, and overturn entrenched notions. I support Code Pink's actions and motivation, but I support their right to express themselves even more, and lowlife scum is a ridiculous thing for a man who has killed people to call someone who raises their voice and jangles some handcuffs. The lounge car is exactly an oasis of zen, perfectly stated RR, because we work together to keep it that way. People like Lux, RR, and Hedobabe particularly, offer peace and welcome to all there, and I consider them friends in a real sense. It is the only place in the entire forum where I have felt such a welcome, and that's something worth preserving.

You defend Kissinger don't you? Do u know anything about Kissinger? Like really know? And thanks for offering the drink, I'll pass since it's forbidden in my religion.
I did not offer you a drink. I also don't believe I have defended Kissinger anywhere on here? Seriously...Do you know anything about my posts? Like really know?
Then I guess I'm reading your posts wrong. Do me a favor, just hit the ignore button. It's so fucken clear I have zero respect for you and vise versa. In all honesty, I can't stand you.
