I want to say that I'm just playing devil's advocate here and certainly am not looking to be rude or disrespectful. So please don't take anything to heart or personally. I just don't understand all these unwritten "rules" of trading that are self imposed & unenforceable and people upset, even angry about it. I don't understand why people get stressed about a situation that is out of our control. I know, I know, someone will say we as fans can control the market by not buying merchandise but in what world will that be realistic?

I suggested 3 weeks grace period...give or take a week.

    I've had my Moline since October 17th, 2014. Do I qualify?.....now I'm just being a smart ass.

I missed out on something, someone else missed out on something and we may agree on a trade. Who cares? I'm certainly not gonna ask the person to pinky swear they won't flip the poster. That's absurd.

it is actually a written rule on the sale of the items here. When purchasing it says "Not For Resale". People essentially flood the market immediately with these things in no time for much richer items or cash. 10c just doesnt enforce it. It happens. People give the seller some shit, which should be expected (and IMO does keep the behavior from being a complete Wild West epidemic, so I think the situation is somewhat in our control), they often find a taker or just take it to "The Bay" and thats it.

At least some people wait a little while, then come out with a story that they are selling it for their brother, suddenly have 2 of them, or need the money for bills. Just a little tact.

I would like 10c to ratchet up and define the rules or completely do away with them. They seem to be kind of a fence sitter on these subjects and it creates a grey area. On some level the company probably does appreciate the microeconomy created by this and all the speculation.

On all fronts, this is a complete epidemic, and something that is making it near impossible for people to even get the merch for shows they attend. People buying dozens of posters at the stand, 100 stickers.

If its Wild West, call it Wild West and we all can do that. I miss out on Moline, maybe I can snipe a Detroit "Variant" or something like that in which I would never ever want or go for to attempt to trade for a Moline down the road?

*I dont want/need a Moline, just using recent examples.

And no, IMO 3 weeks isn't enough time. It wont happen, but if I were making the rules, I feel that the spirit of the community here, "possession" should be established... and nothing could be sold or traded within 6 Months of the on sale date.

In theory I agree, but the reality is that the market would just move elsewhere and traffic on the board would suffer. They probably don't want that to happen either.

yeah, like I said, from a business sense, it seems pretty obvious on some level they reluctantly support and foster the microeconomy.

PP193448...it's like the NFL, two penalties cancel the play entirely as if it didn't happen ;)

A very limited amount of items in the shop are designated as "not for resale". Take the recent coffee mugs...they didn't have a "not for resale" designation and people (for whatever reason) are selling them off. Just about every item in the shop does not have that designation.

No matter what, you'll have those who don't have any sense and would do as they will with their purchase. Doesn't mean we give up entirely. There are still honest people here. I've done mostly cash purchases from other members and yes, I pay over the amount it originally sold for. Hey, I'm the one who's assed out because I missed the original sale. You won't hear me complain because that's just the way it goes. Can't win them all the time.

    Que sera, sera :-??

But why stop with a minimum hold time? Why not demand that people who want to frame the poster get first dibs over people that just want to throw it in a flat file? Of course my suggestion is ridiculous but my point is that everyone's idea of what's fair is different. You can't regulate everything in life.

I have a Moline and I collect posters. I may or may not trade it for another poster for my collection. I feel that way about every poster I buy. Including ones i buy at a show i attend. These things sell out so fast there's really no time to think it over or else you risk missing out. And sometimes i end up with a poster I'm not happy with (philly and baltimore from last year come to mind) and i end up trading them for something else I prefer. I never buy more than one poster. That's shady in my opinion and screws other fans.

I hate how people buy posters only so they can use them as trade bait and people who went to the show miss out. I realy liked the lincoln poster from this tour but as I live in Australia and wasnt at the show gave it 24 hours before I purchased it from the store so people who went to the show could have first crack. I could only imagine if moline had been my first show and I had to now pay $300 for the poster cause others bought it with the sole intention of using it to trade for other items or worse sell.

The beauty of this forum is that in most cases you wouldn't have to pay $300 like you do on ebay. You could trade a poster you paid $35 for to get that $35 poster that you wanted instead.

I get what people are saying about the perception of buying an item and then immediately trading it. It can rub people the wrong way.

But I also find it funny that someone can post a crackerjack for sale for $250 and there will be multiple comments from people saying how it's a great deal. But five minutes later someone posts that they want to trade a moline for a crackerjack and everyone loses their mind.

    Makes no sense to me.

Time frames and prices don't really matter when people make judgement around here. What matters is who you are. I've seen identical listings 2 days apart, $10 apart on a higher value item - one guy got trashed and called a flipper, the other got the ol' fashioned ++Good member kudos on a great price....

What we should focus on is minding our own business, letting people buy/sell/trade what they want. We are all adults capable of making decisions on our own, that includes over paying for goods and buying products that were just bought for less from the Tenclub.

No auctions or ebay links is still a good rule though.

We are not going to be able to solve that problem here. The market for Pearl Jam's merchandise is very large, Lost Dogs is just a small percentage of the activity. What we can do here though, is keep the goods in the community. By being fussy about prices and flippers we encourage the goods to leave our circle to people that will pay the market's value on the product.

What I would see as a solution would require a huge effort so it's likely not going to happen.

I would keep track of the items sold by numbering them x/xxx and keep track of who has which number. Most items sold are "members only" so when something is dropped on Ebay, they could warn, limitate or restrict members from buying to flip.

Same with artists, they know who has the numbered editions and could cancel the orders of identified flippers that buy an A/P and drop it on Ebay with high profit.

The A/P variants prices have gone up because of those flipping and making a fortune. If I were Emek, Ames or anyone else, I would join that alliance ;)

But that's just my opinion and again, never likely to happen.

Flipping is the way of the world. Like someone posted somewhere in the forum about flipping...
Stocks... Buy low and sell high... In essence you flip for profit. Everything from muscle and antique cars to houses. Lots of stuff bought and sold to make profit. Get over it. Be smart and do research to not get burnt over paying. Poor Johnny didn't get the toy he wanted for Christmas... Poor Lucy didn't get asked to prom... Poor Jeff didn't get a Moline poster even though he went to the show... How about some perspective. It's a fucking poster. Glad I got some I did, but didn't seem to cry about not getting others. Don't get me started on the sticker babies...

I wouldn't mind that at all if that was what they wanted here. Its like the 10C sits on the fence and leaves it all to us to bicker about.
