Yeah, I know it doesn't belong here, and I'll put it in the poster thread, too. But in case anyone is looking for framing inspiration, here's how my Moline project turned out.

    WOW !

That turned out incredible ! That is exactly how I would want mine to look, without even knowing that's what I wanted. Lol

I would really like to hear more details on your "project". Such as, did you do this yourself & if not, where did you go? If you don't mind me asking, how much did this set you back? (If you don't want to talk about that, I understand).

I really like having the set list there too since it was such a big part of the whole experience of being there (and my favorite album) !

Once again, great job ! That looks fantastic !

Here are the pertinent details ...

Art direction was all me. But I had Hobby Lobby cut the mats and do the mounting. I do a lot of my own stuff, but when it's a triple-matted project, that's where I bow out and let the pros do it perfectly.

The top layer, I took a John Deere toy tractor and ran the tires through brown paint. Then I ran the tractor over the matboard prior to it being cut. I was kicking around some ideas, things like using corn tassels in the frame, or dirt ... something to keep that rural theme to go with the art. And I grew up in the sticks, not too far from Moline myself. Brainstorming with a couple buds who, like me, are either currently in the newspaper design biz or used to be, the tractor tire tread idea came up. Money in the bank.

The frame is reclaimed barn wood from Oklahoma, or so Hobby Lobby told me. Normally, I don't like that style of frame. But the day I saw the poster when it was tweeted out while I was on the way to Moline, I knew this would be the frame.

Sticker, ticket and GA wristband are in the top secondary opening, which I had them cut in cathedral style for the opening. Bottom secondary opening is a reprint of the setlist and the button. Now ... you'll notice the button is covering up part of one of the songs. Let's just say that it would be infinitely easier for me to show this off to some of my ultra-conservative family members if they're not staring "Fuckin' Up" right in the face. A little lame, I know. But I needed another spot for the button because it was gonna be too crowded up top. So the button was going to go with the setlist no matter what. I just did some censoring because it's just easier to have my 63-year-old mom and other grandma types and my 11-year-old goddaughter think Pearl Jam are nice boys who sing nice songs.

Total cost of the whole thing was about $120. I'm a Hobby Lobby guy when it comes to all my framing projects (and I've done dozens with them). The open-back frame, 24x36, is $40 – but half off every two weeks. So $20 there. The glass is just regular glass, not museum glass. That was $35 – but I used my 40 percent off coupon there. So $21. The mats were $14 each, so $42 total. Then there's $8 for foam core, $4 for the extra openings, $4 for the cathedral opening and I think about $10 total for some other miscellaneous costs, plus tax.

If I'd have done this myself at home, I wouldn't have saved that much money – and they did it perfectly, like 10/10, compared to me being able to do it at maybe an 8.5 or 9/10. So I'm a Hobby Lobby proponent all the way ... you just have to know when to go there. Their open-back frames are on sale for 50 percent off every other week, and in the in between weeks, their regular wall frames are 50 percent off. You can get a 24x36 regular frame there at 50 percent off for $25, then pick out a couple mat colors and work with them for what you want to do for the openings and stuff, and you can get a really nice piece done for relatively very cheap. Won't be conservation glass, but you can have a nice display in a nice, simple frame, acid-free mats, for very affordable.

The band tweets it out and puts it on Instagram right after each show. Then a blog called Trapdoor in the Sun also compiles them. I pulled the largest version I could find, tweaked it to the size I need, and made sure the background was pure white in Photoshop, since the original is a picture of a photocopy of the original written list, making the background really more gray-ish. Plus, having the background as pure white means the printer will only print the words in black, not try to print the blank background. Pretty simple process, really. I printed it on some thicker card stock, rather than home printer photo paper, to hopefully keep the ink from fading down the road.

Here's the Trapdoor in the Sun blog:

Up to about 15. :) I don't mind. I'm glad to share the process or give tips to people if it makes them have a finished product that they'll love for years more than they'd love just a standard ho-hum slap-it-in-a-frame situation. But yeah ... trying to wrap my head around how it would work if someone truly wanted to pay me and ship all their stuff to me to have me do the tire tread work and work with Hobby Lobby on cutting the openings and all that stuff – and then ship this massive thing back to them. That's a little scary. All POSSIBLE. But time consuming and scary to think about packaging up a 24x36 piece of expensive artwork and frame job and getting it somewhere safely.

Like I said, I love what you did with it. Everything included and the tractor tracks are awesome. Just if it were my piece I would have gone a different color. Not a negative about your choice at all.

PS and if the only "negative" comment you get is a bit too much brown....you are doing it right.
