I Just Canceled My Free Obamacare ...

Yup.
This is one of the dumbest initiatives the government has ever attempted ...
and I was of that opinion before I came to know it intimately.

To some up the stupitidy in a nutshell ...
THEY WANT ME TO FORWARD PROVE CURRENT YEAR INCOME OR DROP ME ...

The LONGER VERSION ...
My income is so stupidly low, WORKING THREE JOBS AT A TIME (in 2012 i alternately held FIVE different jobs, but 3 at a time), that I barely have time to scratch my fucking ass ... I make dick, and my life is dogshit. And to add to that, Obamacare says I MUST suckle from the government teat or be fined for not suckling. So I suckled. Fuck, they gave it to me FREE. 100% subsidy. A FORCED subsidy, I may add.

Anyhow. Several months later (and I have YET TO USE THE POLICY EVEN FOR A CHECKUP ... because my life sucks such fat dick I have no time) ... AND OBAMACARE CALLS ME TO ASK ME FOR "MORE INFORMATION" ...

What "information" could they want, you ask?
HOW ABOUT *** FORWARD PROVING THE CURRENT YEARS INCOME *** ....

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME !?!
So the solution to helping all the poor fucks in this world who don't have a moment to rub two thoughts together is to FORCE them on to your stupid subsidy and then FORCE THEM TO ***FORWARD PROVE*** THEIR CURRENT (ie. UNENDED, YEAR IN PROGRESS) INCOME?

**************** GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE YOU STUPID FUCKING GOVERNMENT FUCKS *************************

So, I don't know how obvious this is to ya'll, but given that the year is NOT OVER, there IS NO W2 FOR ME TO SUBMIT ...
THEY WANT:
PAY STUBS (I have 2 jobs with direct deposit for which I get NO STUB) and one "job" that is my business that is so ass-backwards that asking me to dig through my own books to get you my current years wages is actually somewhat of a chore ...
STATEMENTS FROM EMPLOYERS (yeah right, fuck off)
OR MY BANKSTATEMENTS ... ON PRINCIPLE ALONE, SUCK MY FUCKING DICK!!!!!!!!

AND BESIDES THAT FACT, UP UNTIL FIFTEEN DAYS AFTER THE DEADLINE THEY GAVE ME I WAS STILL WORKING TO WHACK MY DEADBEAT FUCKING ACCOUNTANT OVER THE HEAD TO GET MY 2013 TAXES SUBMITTED ...

So ...
ME: Can't barely stop to fucking breath. STILL WORKING ON OVERDUE TAXES FROM LAST YEAR.
GOVERNMENT: WANTS PROOF OF CURRENT YEARS INCOME.

ME: FUCK YOU, YOU IDIOTS.
CANCEL ME. CANCEL ME. CANCEL ME.
YOU BETTER NOT TRY TO FUCKING BILL ME.
CANCEL ME. CANCEL ME. CANCEL ME.

Oh. AND FINE ME.
CUZ YOU ARE GOING TO.
FINE ME FINE ME FINE ME.
FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

The eye opener will be after the November elections and the higher tax penalty for not having coverage kicks in (which was conviniantly delayed by Mr. Obama).

Get real...you knew the rules when you signed up. The subsidies are based on income. Did you really think you would never have to show proof of income?

Doesn't the government have the ability to verify someone's income?

    It does seem ass-backwards.

Hell, the IRS recently asked us for proof of our income and copies of my tax return because my husband claimed our mortgage on his taxes.

THEY ALREADY HAVE THIS INFORMATION FOR BOTH OF US.

    Bumbling and inefficient.
  • Gern BlanstenGern Blansten Posts: 20,284
It does seem inefficient but it really is part of an audit verification. If your copy doesn't match what was filed then they dive in further.

Maybe a better criticism from the OP (and I don't live in the US so I can't say anything on this topic) would be combatting what he claims is the friction encountered during the process of submitting proof of income. Or the government not simply tying health care eligibility into filing income taxes. And for that, a better place to express himself might be through a properly written letter to a politician, about said convoluted bureaucratic process - rather than the atrocity of being forced to have your government take care of your health, in exchange for you surrendering information about your income (which, to me, seems like a pretty fair deal).

I'm thankful to make decent money but I would not hesitate to give them proof of my income if I could get a subsidy for my family (wife and four kids)....I pay about $1,200/month plus $10K deductible.

Benjs....this isn't government healthcare, they just provide subsidies for lower income folks to pay premiums. 100% subsidy is fucking wonderful and is exactly why the ACA was needed.

It is uncomfortably cozy with the insurance providers. Who would have thought our government would make a deal that benefits the private sector in exchange for campaign contributions? Oh yeah, everyone!

You kinda miss the point ... "You knew the rules when you signed up" ? It's not like I went looking for a handout here. Nor was I trying to game anyone. I was TOLD: sign up or pay.
To answer your question directly, NO. No I never thought my government would be so stupid as to unconstitutionaly (I really don't give a fuck the supreme courts bullshit opinion on this. I can read. The constitution clearly says go fuck yourself. Only a lawyer could and did say otherwise) require health coverage and I SURE AS FUCK NEVER THOUGHT THEY'D REQUIRE FORWARD PROOF. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure that's unheard of prior to this bullshit.

So to clarify, it is really THIS:
SIGN UP AND "PROVE" YOUR INCOME BEFORE YOU EARN IT OR PAY A (SOON TO BE LARGE) PENALTY FOR SIMPLY BEING ALIVE (a constitutional, and God given right.)

    But you're right. MY BAD!

You will pay a much heftier fine if you are busted not having car insurance, where is the outrage over the constitutionality of that? People don't gripe because they know it makes sense. I do feel that insurances that are legally required should be more tightly controlled so that the providers don't take advantage of the consumer.

But isn't that liability insurance, which protects against damage toward others?

Frankly, I'd like to see Drifting send that original post to his appropriate politician! Then again, I'm not sure how much of a difference writing/contacting these people makes.

Yes, but (aside from the directive to increase ins. enrollment for profit reasons) it is the same principle that underpins the requirement for health insurance. Many many millions of tax dollars are funneled into hospitals to cover the emergency care of uninsured patients, driving up insurance costs, general healthcare costs, and tax expenditures. We all pay for the uninsured.

You're going to pop a blood vessel... chill the F out if you're not going to have health care.

I agree with you drifting. It's not the government's place to tell anyone that they have to get health insurance or face penalties. The ACA, aka Obamacare, will eventually be overturned in the years (and administrations) to come.

Actually if your income is low there is no penalty at all. Lots of bad information going around. Also no penalty if your premiums exceed 8%of your income.

Lol.... Never... Unless it is replaced by universal care. That is the next logical step. For profit health care cannot sustain itself. The world has already shown us that.
