MILWAUKEE - Police are investigating allegations that members of a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee fraternity put "date rape" drugs into women's drinks at a recent party, reports CBS affiliate WDJT.

According to the station, police said several women who attended a Sept. 12 party hosted by the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity were later unable to walk or stand and two had to be taken to a hospital.

One woman who asked not to be identified told WDJT about a frightening experience her friend had at the party. "One of my friends brought her back, he was just being a good guy, and he brought her back because all these dudes were hitting on her and making out with her, and she was seemingly really wasted," the woman said.

The Journal Sentinel reports that officers were called to a residence hall on-campus about midnight Friday to attend to a drunken woman. A breath test showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.20, over twice the limit of 0.08 considered proof of intoxication in Wisconsin. Officers noticed she had a red X on her hand.

The paper reports police were called to assist another severely intoxicated woman at the dorm 15 minutes later. The second woman also had a red X on her hand, and was unable to speak clearly or walk. Officers also noticed a man vomiting in a nearby trash can. The man, who had a black X on his hand, told officers he had been drinking at the TKE house. A female friend who was with him, who also had a red X on her hand, told police she had given her friend some of her drinks.

Other students told WDJT that "roofies," a common date rape drug, has become a significant problem on campus and that the school's police have issued a warning to women, telling them to watch their drinks.

On Thursday, the university tweeted that TKE has been suspended on an interim basis while officers investigate the allegations, the station reports. Fraternity members refused to answer the door to speak with WDJT reporters Thursday.

Police previously investigated the fraternity last spring over allegations of sexual abuse at the Chapter House, according to the station.

No charges were ever filed in that case.

Well I think your advice there is terrible Mikeyrat, but certainly don't trust anybody from that frat house.
I personally think that fraternities and sororities should be eliminated. They are fucking ridiculous. Like breeding and training grounds for so much of what is wrong with society. Exclusionary bullshit. As for these fuckers... if no one is expelled and the frat isn't permanently shut down, then the university is complicit.

Expelled? No offense but I'd hope and know the women involved would hope to that more then just get expelled. This shits a felony in my eyes.

Fraternities and sororities do not need to be eliminated. They have a use in colleges. I probably would have dripped out of college had it not been for the extremely close bonds I forged in my fraternity.

That being said, when shit like this happens, charters needs to immediately be pulled and arrests need to be made.

cases like this or even individual ones are why the institutions shouldnt be in charge of the investigations. Leave that to the police and justice system as flawed as they are.

I agree, these institutions are relics of a shameful past and should be quietly put away right along with cheer leading and beauty pageants. These things come from a time when young men and women were purposely conditioned for the roles they were expected to fill in a commercial male-driven society, and it is time to leave that sick mentality behind for good.

    With you both.

How does a young man do well enough to get into college but lack such basic senses of decency and morality? It's not like there's any gray area here.

Can't imagine what's going through their parents' minds.

(also, what's with the X's? Code or something - drugger / druggee?)

color of the x. like a hand stamp. apparently the women they wanted to drug were given red. one of the womens male friends had a black x on his hand. He had drank from her cup and was found throwing up in the bushes by cops on one of these calls.

This ties into the thread on AET (I think by you, BB) about the cups and nail polish that would alert someone their drink was laced. Again, it's beyond sad this even happens. That people perpetuate it, commit it.

kce, not just lack of honesty, but of decency - of conscience. I hope the girls' parents use this as an opportunity to open their eyes that assholes like these boys (not deserving of the word "man") are out there. Not to live life with paranoia, but awareness.

mickey - to the X thing...no one questioned the hand-marking itself? That part is so strange to me...well, beyond the story itself.

100% hedonist, women need that out asap. Sad that they would even need this product but can we blame them? Not with news like this. Fucken assholes

Ongoing investigation. Seems this just came to light ,can only assume it was to be seen as an id check kind of thing?

I'd bet that these boys' mothers taught them better, and expected them to be decent. I'd bet that they were decent until they were negatively reinforced continually by the football teams and fraternities and other boys' clubs that perpetuate these types of behaviors. I'll bet their mothers would be shocked to know they were participating in such shocking activities, but they shouldn't be, these things are as old as fraternities and football teams themselves.

I know peer pressure can be powerful - growing up, I succumbed to it in ways I wish I hadn't...but to that extent? Never - it's such a bold, clear line to cross. I can't imagine anyone of any semblance of character doing this, trying this.

Something has to be off either in nature or nurture or maybe both.

I really have to disagree with you there. The clearest examples I would point to would be the regular, predictable atrocities committed by soldiers of every culture, the Stanford experiment in the 60's, and the millions of Nazi collaborators that couldn't all have been off in nature or nurture. I think there is a monster deep inside nearly every human, it is the only thing I can think of to explain the endless cycles of violence that play out continually across all cultures and both sexes, though men seem to be worse.

On the lighter side, I also think we are each capable of amazing acts of love, kindness, and altruism.

On your last part, absolutely within that light..my inclination is typically to look toward those who are, vs those who lack or just don't care.

And yes, we all harbor darkness - part of being human, of being alive and aware and reactionary - but most of us know we don't need to act on it...certainly or especially when our lives aren't at stake.

Got no answers here at all. I can't figure out some people, and not sure I even need or want to.

It's enough to hoe my own road.

these guys should be put away for a very long time. they are disgusting human beings. the way some men and this world in general treat women just leaves you speechless sometimes. don't guys like this have mothers? and do you really get any kind of pleasure from an unconscious woman? I really don't get this world sometimes.
