I can't sleep again. I'm exhausted. I was falling asleep watching a movie a few hours ago. Now I am hearing noises and my mind is going a mile a minute. I'm exhausted, I was running around like a maniac today. I pushed my body physically with the stupid back problems to the point that I had to take ibuprofen and u could stand up straight. My eyes are itchy and sleepy. I hate this so much!

I totally agree! I think part of my insomnia problem (not all, but part) is a subconscious resistance to it because I feel like I am wasting so much of my life doing it.

I have a "you have to come in for a check up or else I'm not renewing your prescription" doctors appointment at the end of next month. Do you think I should mention the insomnia to my doctor? What do doctors do when you tell them you can't sleep? Do they make you see a shrink? I don't wanna see a shrink. I also don't wanna get a bunch of useless drugs shoved in my face. I just threw out 6 year old bottles of Xanax and ativan that I don't even know why I was given. I never touched them.

If it's a decent doctor, they will recommend that you seek therapy to see if that helps, as it sometimes does. You might want to try and open your mind to it. Therapy really is generally... well.... therapeutic. ;) But they can also teach you specific techniques that might really help you.
The doctor should also consider medication, although only if your insomnia is either fairly profound, or very occasional, and even then, not all medications work. But they do have non-addictive meds that might work for you (and if they don't, stop). Xanax and Ativan don't seem too appropriate unless your insomnia is a direct result of an anxiety disorder.
The doctor should also be thinking about nutritional/dietary factors and how they can be related to sleep or lack thereof, and make recommendations in that area if he or she sees room for improvement.
Finally, he can refer you to a sleep clinic. They know a lot more about it than any GP would.

So, was your sleep lab assessment helpful?? I hope so.

I only really have two problems with this 'sleep 3-4 hours fitfully then wake up in the middle of the night' business:
    1. I'm gonna burn out and want a nap by noon which will screw me up for days & I have shit to do.
    2. I try to be courteous to my neighbors & walking around in the middle of the night is not courteous.

well, shit, wonder who it is?

I'll have to find the article...supposedly, talking about insomnia is supposed to cure it...

I have been doing major jokes on my days off, and that seems to help.. But I'm going through a depressive cycle right now, and all I want to do.. Is sleep. So frustrating!
