My wife and I went to the first Amsterdam show and from a performance perspective we both loved it! They sounded great and the acoustics at the Ziggo Dome were pretty damn good for an arena (better than 02 World in Berlin in '12 that's for sure!). From a set list perspective I thought it was amazing! They played four songs that I saw for the first time (Evacuation, Supersonic, Swallowed Whole & Sleeping by Myself) mixed in with some incredible rarities like Who you are, Footsteps, Thin Air and All Night so all that combined made this an amazing show for me.
However I do have to agree with everyone else that the crowd was a disappointment. This was only our second European show ever but one of the reasons my wife wanted to see them in Europe again was because of the crowd experience she witnessed in 2012 at the Berlin 2 show. We had reserved 10c seats for this show and literally everyone around us sat down for the pretty much the entire show. After about 3 or 4 songs I whispered to my wife "fuck it, I'm standing up and rocking out!" and she joined me and we rocked out the whole night. Nobody asked us to sit down but I'm sure they were thinking it. Even the floor seemed pretty lifeless with the exception of certain sections. Thankfully the crowd alone doesn't determine whether it was a great show for me or not otherwise I would probably be disappointed right now.
Which leads me to my final conclusion. If you go into each Pearl Jam show with absolutely no expectations from a crowd or set list perspective you'll never walk out of the show disappointed. For me, just seeing them in Europe while on vacation was enough to consider this a great show but the show itself was incredible and I can't wait to get the bootleg.
Now onto Milano where Dimitris Pearljam assured me on our flight we wouldn't have the same experience with the crowd.
I was stood for the first night and seated against row 1 in the 2nd tier on night 2. I didn't bother standing on the 2nd night but I still had a blast enjoying the show, singing the songs and rocking out.

I had my back against the rail on Mike's side and I'm glad there's a few posting about the lame crowd. The meat head on my right filmed the entire fucking show, he never sang, danced or cheered once and he complained about Joe Public behind and how they were allowed in too early and how close they were. The girl on my right caused a big kerfuffle because someone dancing bumped into her and most of the people around me didn't know a lot of the songs. Who You Are hits a raw spot with me and my eyes started to glaze over , yet no one around had a clue what it was, Low Light was another. I know guys who were on Stone's side who said it was the same by them. In 2012 we were with a friend who had a general admission ticket, so we stayed with the riff raff on the floor. The atmosphere was awesome and you could feel the love. A lot of people have jumped on the PJ bandwagon in recent years and it's cool to say you've been x amount of shows and you've got x amount of shirt & tour posters but if you're going to stand in line for 9 hour to watch the band , buy their fucking records ! rock the fuck out when they come to town and show them your love. It's not a stamp collection. I thought TOOL fans were up their arse and some of the 10 Club are running them a close 2nd. I heard stories of people in the front of the queue for the pop up shop allocating numbers among themselves so the elite few got in first , similar to the way any decent stuff on here has already been snaffled up by the time most of us have clicked on the email link. I must have missed the boat , there must be a Ten & 1/2 Club or Gold Membership. On the plus side, the band killed it. Again !
Was the dude a bald headed bloke? yeah he was an annoying lil git.

Even though I had a wristband (thanks Linda!) I didn't bother with the 10 Club area. Was halfway back and met some amazing people, and all around me were totally into it and rocking out. That being said, from a crowd perspective this was the quietest of the PJ gigs I've been to.

Great show, highlights for me Footsteps and Who You Are, Jeremy and RVM and the general acoustics at Ziggo Dome! I had Ten Club GA Tickets and was on the middle and have to say that this is the worst crowd ever! No dancing, no jumping, no singing along apart from the "hit" songs, I felt like at a festival with non PJ fans chatting or sending sms on their phones, or just standing there...really dissapointing, even if I'm getting older (almost 40) as all of us fans from the early days I still have the energy to enjoy a gig the way it should be on the floor...for the next one just get a seat!

When those first few beats of Who You Are started and also Thin Air, I swear I was the only one around me stoked by those songs. Sang my heart out all night but there were alot around me just stood there and would only get excited by a Ten/Vs era song. I can deal with that, their loss. But it was so packed down there, people would push in when there was no room and then stand in my way and look on their phones only to lift their heads up for RVM, Jeremy, Porch etc.

me too. feel like i was in a sweet spot where the real a-holes pushed way ahead and became someone else's problem. all the people around me were very chill and happy to be there.
I simply loved the show! The crowd around me (GA) seemed really into it, but we did comment on the many people who stayed in their seats. It seemed like some of the GA crowd needed time to get into it, but I had a great time. RVM blew me away. Amazing! That alone is a reason to get the bootleg for me. Even flow was great too. Ed limped off the stage during Mike's solo and for quite some time Mike didn't seem to realise he had left. So he started wrapping up and all of a sudden realised he had to keep going (which isn't a problem for him ) ) Ed did seem to be in quite a bit of pain though and I wonder if that was in part why they brought out the bar stools for the first encore and did a few slower numbers. I just loved hearing Low Light, one of my personal favourites. Other highlights for me included Jeremy, All Night, Footsteps and Who you Are. Didn't have tickets for night 2, but at least I still have Stockholm to look forward to. Can't wait!
I was fortunate to be at both the Amsterdam shows.
Both nights had their unique songs (All Night/Who You Are/Evacuation and Thin Air/Hard To Imagine/Rain/All Or None/Mother) and their share of classics.
A total of 61 songs were played. Six songs were repeated, meaning that 55 unique songs were played. The repeats include the classic songs Alive, Better Man and Even Flow. From the new album the songs Lightning Bolt, Mind Your Manners and Sirens were repeated.
Nobody at this forum will be surprise that both shows were great and typically for Pearl Jam! Yes, we as fans are kind of spoilt to have a band which not only has enormous qualities, but which also gives all every night and which tries to play a different set each time.
I had general attendance so I didn’t have a good overview from the top, but I think that the crowds on both nights were pretty good. There was a big difference though between Monday and Tuesday. On Monday there was a huge queue for Ten Club tickets. I had the idea that this general queue barely had other people getting their tickets (they had their e-tickets), so basically it were just fan club members waiting. I myself was ‘late’ at 17:00 (for a 20:00 concert) and when I was out of this queue the other long queue (for early entrance) already was moving in.
There was nice merchandise to be obtained. There was a smaller opportunity outside and a big one inside. Again: queues, queues…. I think Pearl Jam will repeat the sports theme this tour. On the first night there was an orange football shirt with “Pearl Jam” at the front combined with “5 1”. Either this “Five Against One” display is a HUGE coincidence with the 5-1 win of the Dutch national soccer team against world champions Spain, or this was designed and manufactured within the space of just three days. The shirt was sold out rather quickly and wasn’t available (anymore) on the second night. A friend of mine who wore this shirt on the second night was questions many, many times where he got it from.
On the ‘fan club night’ the front was packed with fan club members. On the second night I could rather easily get into the front part 45 mins before the start. Overall, it was noticeable that the second night had a more general attendance. There were fewer people with PJ-shirts and there were less non-natives than on Monday. The difference can also be seen on the amount of reactions on this 16 June thread and the 17 June thread.
Eddie indeed was injured on both nights. That may have influenced his physical performance eon the stage, but it wasn’t noticed in another way.
I only read paper reviews of the first night (and not of the second night), and these were very positive to excellent. Labels were “phenomenal”,, “unforgettable”, etc.
I will post some pics soon.

I too attended both nights, number fifth and sixth overall. GA on monday, seating (213) the night after. Anyway I had the best time night 1, cannot relate to the lousy crowd people are talking about. I was in and out the mosh pit on Stones side and it was feckin awesome, I almost couldn't breathe during Go/Why Go, bruised up and soaked in sweat but I kinda pulled though, but then Supersonic Reducer hit and that finshed me off good. My personal highlight was Footsteps, blew my mind, hands down the best concert experience I've had. Great vocals and loved the harmonica. RVM was also immense!! Anyway, thanks to the people rocking it out that night! Night 2 just didn't do it for me after what I got night 1. Seating sections are just full of people with the need of taking a piss every ten minute. Glad I have GA in Stockholm, it's gonna be feckin great.
I loved every single second of night one and night two. If you are a PJ fan and were at either show how could you be upset or disappointed? There is not a more mind-boggling group - PJ fans!!!! 8-}
Was the dude a bald headed bloke? yeah he was an annoying lil git.
He had a cap on but he was bald, his buddy was very bald. And shiny. I think they were locals so you have to show a bit of respect when you're in someone else's backyard but he'll need help getting his camera removed from his colon if he behaves like that at the other shows We went in place where Ed got his Tibet Football Shirt on the Tuesday and the guy said they were supposed to be coming into the shop later but we couldn't hang around that long http://www.copafootball.com/
Was in GA the first night right on the rail in front of Ed night one and ended up standing behind a family of giants night 2 (people in the Netherrlands are very tall!) Was an amazing experience to be at a show in Europe and experience Amsterdam again. All in all no complaints!
Nights one and two were my first international PJ shows.....I am from USA. My husband and I were at first a little unnerved by the docile crowd, but we didn't care. PJ moves us, PJ makes us feel, makes us dance, cry, feel, love. I believe by the end of night 1, the people near us were moved by our emotional joyous response to this show. We ended up having a more than fantastic time.. We couldn't believe the setlist, thought we were in heaven. THANK YOU PEARL JAM. We love you.
We were in the first show, with 10C tickets just a couple of meters from Mike. Amazing night, thanks to PJ, thanks to a true setlist with deep PJ songs but overall thanks to all our friends met during the show! Yesterday we were in Milan, but seats on firts red ring...great show, great place but our minds are been lost in Ziggo!
Is it the weed that makes them Dutch so reserved. Cant be cuz when they won the soccer match the City was going nuts. Have to agree with this guy. Even Eddie with a broken wing moved more than this crowd. And oh ya, them Dutch people are GIANTS. I am 6'1" and that was the first time I was one of the "short guys" at a show.
That being said, I HAD A BLAST ANYWAY! I LOVE AMSTERDAM. Havent gone for about 6 years because of the dollar falling off the currency scale but the place is flat out FUN FUN FUN>

i would say as a whole the dutch smoke way less weed than the americans. the dutch (imo i dont know any dutch personally) have a very "whatever, as long as youre not hurting anyone do whatever you like - i dont care" attitude, really seems like they dont care what anyone else does. might also explain the locals sitting in the reserved seats, or being more laid back in GA. I was respectfully going nuts in GA (n1) and didnt have any problems, and i stood in the reserved (n2) and no one said anything, or really seemed to mind or care. doesnt mean they didnt have a great time, but they just seem to have a "whatever, go ahead as you like, im more reserved myself" attitude.
I was at Amsterdam 1 and it was a great show. These comments about a dead crowd leave me baffled. In my experience, with Pearl Jam, the crowd has very little impact on their performance. When they are on their game, they are on. That's it. I was at the Budokan on March 3, 2003, no pit, all seated show, typical Japanese audience - respectful and quiet between songs and during softer sections. Bottom line - the best live versions of Release and Better Man (Ed had to sing the whole song since the crowd didn't come in on cue - language issues) I've heard, stunning versions of U and Breath, and a wonderfully tight performance. It's all on youtube somewhere. Edit - found it ("Better Man" at 1:03:50) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1ENgg22sew
This was my first PJ show outside of America and we had an absolute blast. It didn't hurt that I got engaged on Friday in Amsterdam, took my new finacee to her first PJ show, met McCready randomly outside the Rijksmuseum, and saw Eddie play the show is a fucking Walter Payton jersey (I'm from Chicago)! Thought the band sounded great, Ziggo Dome was a sweet venue (minus the ridiculous beer token thing they have going on), but do agree the crowd was meh. Was on Mike's side in reserved seating in 2nd row and 75% of the people sat the majority of the show. It does take something away from my experience when the people around me aren't hanging on every word to every song like I am, especially in the supposed 10c section. In any case, didn't stop me from standing and enjoying every second of one the greatest weekends of my life. Thank you PJ and 10c for doing what you do!!
Comments
Cheers!
