Don’t answer a question with a question. Why does six rounds appease you?
You should be able to defend yourself successfully with 6 rounds.

I'm not arguing against your point, just countering with boogeyman possibilities. Personally, I'd just give them my stuff because stuff isn't worth it.
Drop the first two and the other three are out right quick. If not, best be focused and make your shots count or give yourself time to reload. You don’t buy a skill saw and become a licensed carpenter. If you want that, you have to practice and work for it. No different with a gun. Or is it? Does buying and possessing a firearm automatically make you an efficient protector of all that’s near and dear? Of course not, you have a responsibility to be proficient with your tool. But you know, “responsibility,” it’s inconvenient.

  • I keep two mags with 12 rounds each (glock) in my lockbox at home. However, for work, where I sometimes have to carry-concealed, department policy allows for only 6 rounds per mag.

I go with three mags with ten rounds apiece for each of my go to firearms.
Why do they only allow six round mags?

No clue. I know when we do our yearly qualification with the state gun commission, all the drills in the test have six round in each mag. So maybe it has something to do with that. I’m a probation officer by the way if you’re curious as to why I have to carry at work.

But you know, “responsibility,” it’s inconvenient.
I'm going to guess based on this answer you have had zero to very little time with firearms.

When in a class, you are taught to put multiple rounds in a target.  Different size target gets a different result as does the caliber you are using. Sometimes it takes more than one round to put someone down, it's not like the movies.

So if everyone w a gun practices can you leave us alone?

How many rounds? What’s the average? How many did the 90 year old put into the maintenance worker in Vegas? My guess is you don’t know but your scared.

I’ll leave you alone when you’re “responsible.” Class practice does not equate to proficiency. What does the military require, bring well regulated and all?

Correct. Since you apparently have, how many rounds do you need? And at least 10 states say I don’t need any range time to own a firearm. Fancy that. So if I change my mind and decide I can’t possibly continue to exist without a firearm, I can get a gun and have a 30 round clip because the first 29 shots won’t count. Correct?

Unfortunately, it's actually 26 states...including (somewhat surprisingly to me) my state of Pennsylvania. But this article is three years old so it might be different now.

I know I'm jumping in the middle of this discussion. But do you mean how many rounds do you need total, or how many do you need in a magazine?
I don't agree with the ammo restrictions in California. You can easily go through a few hundreds rounds in an hour. a 10-round magazine can take only 1-2 minutes even when you take time with each shot. going through a box of 50 really doesnt last long. And a bigger problem is people are getting priced out of buying ammo in places like California. They have limits and background checks every single time that are pointless. Literally only designed to prevent you from buying ammo rather than real gun control. So a young adult purchasing his or her first firearm may have a difficult time affording ammo that would make him be able to practice.

He actually might, because I was similar. I had no time for guns. Thought they were dangerous toys for hillbillies and whatnot. Then, when I got a job that required I be firearm-trained, I reluctantly accepted that I had to learn to use a gun. And I have to say, I'm happy I'm proficient in firearms now. Going to the range can be fun, and in the event of something terrible happening (home invasion, etc.), I'll be prepared.

Thanks for answering.  It helps me understand more of where you are coming from now.

If I have a handgun it can't hold 29 rounds, law enforcement or class 3 only.  There is one handgun I know of that holds 20 but I've yet to see anyone with it.

I'm not sure how many rounds I'd need, the situation(s) haven't happened.  Not the answer you are looking for I know.

Again, I'm going to guess that you have had little to zero range time, handling a firearm.

    Correct?
Bow to the gun expert everyone...if only we all went to "the range" we would have a much different understanding
I believe you would have a different perspective if you did in fact go to a range.
I own a gun...been to a range....been to plenty of drunk shooting fests
I've never drank once and shot a firearm.  That is two things to me that do not mix.

I think he's kidding. You can't advocate for gun regulations/safety, and go to "plenty of drunk shooting fests."

100% agree.  Never had a sip of alcohol and fired a weapon.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......
