    I am sure the shooter went through all the proper background checks, fingerprinted, got a referral from his boss and had a current firearms id card.

    But of course (although that is what you actually have to go through in nj to get a firearm).  He was a known gang member who just got out of jail for homicide; legally he can't even own a firearm.
