Thing is I quite like myspace and I know it must be very hard to moderate but it would be great if it was over 18 only or something like that.

I think people have too short memories. Do you not remember what you knew when you were a kid? Personally, when I was 5 I think I was beyond being particularly shocked by anything. By 10 there was little I didn't know about sex. I think 'adults' have a tendency to under-estimate children. The fact is that at that young age sex is the last thing on a kids mind, just because they have other interests and their hormones aren't developed, or whatever. Until about the age of 14 I was more interested in riding my BMX and smashing windows. But then, that's just me.
Anyway, back to Pearl Jam, and rain.

Lol, how could you offend anyone? I actually don't use it to find 'hot college lesbians' :D I don't click on the ad saying 'meet these girls in your area' I don't accept all those bands as 'friends' (well i took one or two in the beginning but think I'll delete them soon) but I've got a lot of people from this place.

What, MySpace? That's just people posting wacky pics of themselves and listing their favourite bands e.t.c.
Mind you, if I saw that you, for example, were a Simply Red fan then I would definately be shocked, and somewhat traumatized.

Virtual communities/social networks can be a very good thing. Wait... we're all talking in one :O

Look at that... We're all using the model we're disputing! Free speech / information sharing online. It exists in all forms whether it's a forum, a newsgroup, MSN or myspace. We're living in the age of the 'death of distance' can't be a bad thing folks :P

Ah yeh, they find out in their own little innocent way. I remember finally finding out what a blow job was - it's slightly different to what I would consider it to be today :D but now they can probably just do a google image search or something  WAY too much information for kids.

I sure can remember what it was like being young !! It was a lot different from the way it is now and i am not even that old !!
When I was ten I spent my time dodging loyalist paramilitaries shooting people and hoping that when the brits raided our house they didn't break the tv again!
I didn't have access to the internet then or even really know of its existance.... it's not even that i fear about my child thinking of sex I feel thats pretty natural and we talk about it I'm not the type of parent that doesn't inform her daughter but the idea of some dirty lousy creepy bastard ........................ don't even wanna go there but you get my meaning.
So back to pearl jam indeed !!!!!!

Not disputing the model just stating that I wouldn't let my ten year old near it. I wouldn't allow her to site on a thread like this either because I wouldn't know who she was talking to ....... I feel as an adult I'm capable of utilizing this and any other social network/virtual community.
Yes I censor things from my child but that doesn't mean I don't agree with and hold free speech as vital !

i too would be shocked at the Simply Red thing as well...

I found a porn mag once when i was 11... same thing as Helens example but different medium i spose... there's no point in getting Victorian values about things now...

like Byrnzie said, when i was 14 i built camps and battered geeky kids younger than me.... at 15 i just wanked...
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
