  • How bad can it be. Say it was a mixed marriage, what would Sterling think.

Oh no! The gay guy, kissed his gay lover while excited about being drafted into the NFL.

Incest if he kissed his mom or sister or even a brother. Some people!

well man....if I were a sports fan it wouldn't matter to me if the ....guy got signed or not, I am a rock n roll fan and I don't let the fact the Elton John or Freddy Mercury(RIP) are queer stop me from enjoying their music,
my view on gay's is no secrete and if a man or woman has a gift such as football or music or whatever then I wish them the best but I don't have to try and understand or support their homosexuality and I also would not attack them in any way but thats me and we are talking about fan's and how they might react and will the team support him...we'll have to wait and see.

Yes, sir... that is my point.
Why would anyone care about what other people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms, right? Only a complete asshole would worry about other folks private lives... right? I mean, what would you say to the person who wants to know about your private life? You'd tell them to fuck off and mind their own fucking business, right? And you should tell them that because, who the fuck do they think they are?
And if a 'Fan' decides to drop his support of a team because of one player... it says a lot more about the chracter (or lack thereof) of the fan, rather than the private life of the player.
All Sam has to do on the field is be a linebacker.
life is stranger than fiction sometimes and I will never support or understand homosexuality...I just can't,I don't know what makes people ingauge in same sex I never could process that, dose that make me a bad person ? and there are no "if's" related to the question no I don't tell gays on the street they're doing something wrong in fact in my everyday life I don't I would never intentionally disrupt anybodys right to be who they want or are but.....if they ask my honest opinion or feeling on anything I would give my honest opinion and really that is how most people are so if someone chooses to stop supporting a team or an athlete because of differences is that person an asshole ? in short by calling someone an asshole for their opinion you are attacking their right to choose, remember the old saying "when you point a finger there are 3 more pointing right back at you" so as long as people are respectfull to each other there should not be a problem even with different views and opinions.

Gf. The drive you have for females is the same exact drive some men have for other men. It's as simple as that. I've always know I've been physically and mentally attracted to women, their shape smell voice etc. it was naturally occurring. Was not a choice There are so many humans that having brains sexually attracted to same sex or even bisexual is inevitable. Hence why there are transgender people as well it's just natural and discriminating is same as discriminating due to hair or skin color. It's just wrong. Now I get how some are uncomfortable, makes sense as we've been conditioned but one must work through this.

I agree with this. But that being said, since we don't and shouldn't care one bit about people's private bedroom lives, why do some make it such a point to call our attention to it?

When Bubba won golf tourney no one made mention of how he kissed his wife and cried. How is this different?

GF, I respect your forthrightness - while some of my opinions are far from yours, I appreciate the honesty in your posts, and the fact that from what you've said, your beliefs aren't tantamount to action.

I recently read an Obama blip related to this, that it's more about what you (collective "you", not you personally) do than who you are. In a sense, I agree (maybe even a bit Sterling-related?) - think what you want. Of course others will form opinions of you based on that but so what?

Maybe some will open their minds a bit when hearing from those in other camps. Maybe not. Doesn't hurt to try.

But if your actions and deeds don't infringe upon others, then go the fuck for it. I wouldn't want to control and influence the thoughts of others any more than I would tolerate that for myself.

(edit - I still think "queer" is off...but whatever. The spots are on the leopard ;) )

    I don't think it's a bad topic to discuss.

I was happy that Sam got drafted. I think he deserved his chance.

As for the kiss...it caught me off guard and actually made me feel uncomfortable for a second or 2. And so I had to think about why....well, first of all all PDA is a bit annoying to me. Don't really care to see it at all. And then it was also that I was worried about the social media shit storm.

But then I realized...so what? Who cares? Let their be a shit storm and lets get it all out on the table. What good does it do to have an openly gay NFL player if he has to hide who is is, change his ways, or have others judge him differently?

So while at first I was uncomfortable, that is on me, not on Sam or ESPN. And I need to get over it. Anyone that has a problem with this sure as shit better not ever kiss their loved ones in public.

You know, it really doesn't matter to me. I can understand your feelings towards gays. I'm not attracted to men.... and I'm not attracted to alot of women out there. But, I have no feelings one way or the other about who somoeone else falls in love with. Why should i even care? I shouldn't care... so, i don't. If someone is attracted to someone else of the same gender... that's cool with me. Love is a good thing in my book.
You are saying that you are the same way, right? That you don't hate gay people, you just don't understand the emotional drive, right? You would not boycott a team, just because of one player being openly gay, right?
    ...
It is the asshole who will protest those things they do not understand. It is the same thing if someone protested a team because they drafted a black player or a Chinese player or a Muslim player... or the same person who would protest an interracial couple. Those people are assholes because they want everyone else to play under the rules they decide others should live by... not on the rules other people have defined for themselves. That is the driving force of those Westboro Baptist Church people and their stance on homosexuality. I, personally, think those people are assholes. I don't know, you may not think they are assholes, but, i do.
    ...
If I told you that you had to live your life in the manner I decide for you... what would you tell me? You'd tell me to quit being an asshole and mind my own fucking business, right? And you SHOULD tell me that.
And look.. I'm not telling you that you need to understand and accept gays... that's you're gig. But, if you hate gay people (or whatever people) just because you don't understand them... then, yeah... I'd call you an asshole simply because you would be acting like an asshole.

Whatever, people will get over it quickly. This seems like a non-issue to me, unless we time-traveled back to 1998 when two gay men kissing still might have caused some kind of scandal.

I read something today that was interesting. The player will never be the focal point. If he makes the NFL some people will say it is all becuase he is gay, If he does not make the NFL there will be people that say it is becuase he is gay. Same with playing time, Pro Bowl, HoF. He also did not help his cause by coming out and saying he should have been drafted in the first three rounds. There were a few radio hosts here in the DC area that said he did not have a could camp and before he "came out" he was listed as a third or fourth round. To each their own.

It is interesting the Sam said he wants to be known as Sam the football player, the gay football player, is in works with Oprah to do a documentary of his preseason.

It makes sense to make a payday while you have a chance, but it goes against what he claims. I think it will also cause a distraction for a rookie to be doing something like this and will alienate himself from teammates, especially veterans.

Now that he is doing a reality show, it makes me wonder how genuine the kiss moment was.

he's doing a reality show ?????...yeah that should futher his career in football..I see a short lived football and t.v career for this guy, if he really is doing a reality show it just seems to me that his life will be a freak show for network profit and he will just be the guy who was a gay wanna be pro football player. the media does that to people and then leave them rotting in the sun.

My respect for Oprah hasn't been on the high side for awhile now (and especially after the Lohan debacle).

It strikes me as pimping in a way, even if the hooker in question is OK with it. Pimps are basically unnecessary but want to come across as needed.

That said, I hope that Sam wasn't made this offer solely because he's gay. To me, that's as messed up as shirking someone solely because they're gay.

Plus...aren't Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. their own little personal reality shows? People can, for better or worse, control their own exposure instead of relying on editors and producers pushing an agenda.

It's only an issue for bigots that are every where that just can't come to terms that people that are gay can actually love eachother as if love should only be between a MAN& WOMAN ....No team owner would be foolish enough to outcast this player the repercussions from the public would be crazy ...I don't care who is on my team that i root for as long as you can make plays ....

I agree with this wholeheartedly.......it's 2014, unreal people still make an issue with this kind of non issue issue....time to get with the times GF, this Muslim seems to not have an issue with it. ;)

    Lol!

I think that Sam should release a sex tape so that people can watch it and get over it. I don't give 2 shits about someone's sexuality and generally dont want to watch anyone eat their lover's face off in public via a deep kiss.
To me it is just like people looking down their noses as someone who smokes, drinks, is fat, is skinny...whatever. Like who/what you want and exercise your right to buy or not product from the Rams based on Sam's playing (or not) for the team.

BB I forgot you are Muslim but if you were a gay Muslim Opra might give you your own reality show :)) btw the repercusions that you are talking about are the fans and that is one of the things that could worry a team owner (will this hurt us or not) the whole world is split on the gay issue I think that's a fact that is hard to dispute so the owners naturally have to concider this when signing a guy that went as far as using the media to tell the world he is gay and then accept a reality t.v show ? as far as the teams business ideas and moves these are things I'm sure they have to take into account.
