I thought it was supposed to come out today but now iTunes says it's expected on November 4th.
So apparently this was supposed to be the "new" song on Anthology 3 that got scrapped. I look forward to it. In fact, I wish they used this Peter Jackson technology to remix Free As A Bird because that could totally benefit from it because John's original demo wasn't very clear. The other song, Real Love, sounds perfect because John's demo sounded good so the other three just had to add their parts with little studio trickery.

yeah, Free As A Bird was a good track, but the demo was just too rough to make it a decent track. or they should have "lo fi-ed" the rest of the band to sound like John.
On this day in 1967. The Beatles completed recording their single ‘Hello Goodbye’ at Abbey Road studios London

The music video, despite being heavily compressed lossy audio, has more dynamics than the official 24-bit high resolution download. What a sorry state of affairs. Can't believe the mastering on the official stereo version is so loud, like RHCP Californication loud. Like Oasis Be Here Now loud.
Love the song, the mix sounds great, but the mastering...gash. Had a brief exchange with Miles Showell on X and he said he wasn't happy either but nothing he can do, the band, producers and label signed off on it. The vinyl is likely more along the lines of the video with no peak limiting, the lossy Atmos mix will be the only way to hear Now and Then with the same dynamics as the new 2023 stereo mix of Love Me Do (which sounds bloody amazing).
At least this means it's a fairly safe bet the rest of the new stereo mixes on the upcoming 1962-1966 set will be masteredwith dynamics intact.
Love the vast majority of the new video, brings the feels most of the time. Could have done with 3 less shots of John dancing at the podium, it was magic the first time he did it in the room with the other three singing.
I found the video to be, to be nice, playful" -- but both very cringey and very ugly.
Was looking forward to a more emotion-evoking classy montage of footage from throughout the career that looked to have some budget behind it.
Not a 14 year olds first weekend of trying out After Effects.
When they were singing next to each other - everyone pasted together, even Paul and Ringo and John at the podium with the string section... that was just "oh, no...". And ofc everything slathered with Jackson's ugly DNR. Yuck.

Cool song. 6.5 million views in 12 hours on YouTube. Incredible.
Video is fine. They wanted to have fun with it instead of it being a funeral.
how cool for people to play strings on a Beatles song in 2023. And how cool that we get to a hear a new Beatles tune in 2023. A shame we didn’t get more of them in their career. Fantastic.

Apparently, the string players didn’t even know they were playing on what was going to be a Beatles song. They were told it was for an upcoming Paul solo album.

Who died? Sorry kind of out of the loop. Love the Beatles.

John Lennon and George Harrison. Half the Beatles. I'm guessing the poster just mean they found a way to be fun with the video, rather than a bleak reminder half the band has passed on :(
But it also irks me that they took the song/demo and threw away parts and changed parts... with it not being their song. It was not even a Beatles demo John had recorded and left in the Apple vault. It was a John Lennon solo song that would have never been a Beatles song, recorded in his own privacy not chosen to be heard by the public or agreed to be tampered with.
On that subject, they could have also tampered with it and done things with it but still have it be a John Lennon song. I mean, not like he didn't have hits or wasn't an active artist after leaving The Beatles... Why force a John Lennon solo composition to suddenly be a The Beatles song just because he was once in that band... he was a solo artist at the point of recording...

Because Yoko, the living proxy of John, gave it to the band to use, because all 4 Beatles and their heirs benefit from keeping the Beatles alive in the public discourse for a few more generations.
The way I look at it, these 3 songs were to live in the idea as if John brought the song to the band and they workshopped it to the final version like they did when they were making music together. .

That's basically how Paul described it in 1995. That John had gone on holiday and they were tasked with finishing the song.
Also, I think Paul and Yoko agree that the Beatles would've reunited to record at some point in the 80's or 90's if John wasn't murdered. But he was, so this is the closest they can get to reuniting.
Lastly, if it wasn't The Beatles, something like this wouldn't even be worth bothering to do. But there's such demand and always will be for The Beatles. It's a gift to the fans, and probably cathartic for Paul and Ringo. Like they sang on Abbey Road, they have to "Carry that weight" of being the Beatles forever.

The Peter Jackson atrocious scrubbing of the Get Back material really looks like shit mixed with other footage in that short film.

They should go back and AI remix those 2 tracks though. This new song is fine, but it sounds so good.
