moshing

  • Just before the Arnhem gig, I had a chat with the head of security (the guy 'guarding' the ten club section before entrance)... He told me about all those people he had pulled out with broken noses, pulled off ears, other head injuries, etc... because of the crowdsurfers.

In Antwerp, I was squashed by some losers a couple of rows behind me. I don't think they waited for this concert as long as I did. I waited years for this concert in my country - I got five/six songs. I'm no pussy, but I even couldn't raise my arms anymore. In fact, I hung 10 cm above the ground, unable to move anymore. They had to pull me out. I feared for my life that moment.

In Paris, a lot of girls fainted. Those were no Back Street Boys-fans, but Pearl Jam fans. A lot of guys had to move to the back. Those fan club members waited a long time, in the sun, just to view their band from a good spot. And why... because you guys think you have the right to hurt other people? There is no such right!

C'mon guys. I can't believe this. You say you're fans of a band that sings about love, caring, anti-war, anti-violence, womans rights, etc... and then you come to a concert and act like little Bu$hes - only caring about yourself on this very moment? You push and pull, you destroy this magical moment for other people, you crush woman, etc...?

How about some respect for other peoples lives? How about some respect for the horror the people at Roskilde had to go through? How about learning from the mistakes of the past. The band you say you love did. It's time for you to follow.

I went to three concerts so far. I had to travel a long time to get there, and I had to work a long time to pay for it (I still study and have to pay a share of my girlfriends studies too - she has a betterman-kinda-father). Two of them were spoiled by little pricks. It hurts. I can't believe their are people here who don't know "Do the evolution" is meant ironicle - "Ill do what I want but irresponsibly"...

Hell yeah, jump like a nutcase, sing or shout, whatever. But be safe. Take care for eachother. There's just one word you should just believe in... It's LOVE.

I agree with the majority. Moshing is stupid, and I have had shows ruined because of a few idiots "moshing" in my section (in one case, the lead singer of a band forced everyone -- 300-lb guys and 100-pound girls alike -- to get into one big "free for all", which resulted in several injuries.)

well, since the people moshing can't actually watch the show whilst doing it, why can't they do it at the back so that everyone else actually WATCHING can do so from the best viewpoint.

    grow up!

Most excellent suggestioN, Pegasus! I have often wondered this myself.

now that was what it was in Reading for example..VERY tight and hard to handle..but it's just from many people wanting to be as close as possible.

Paris, and to some extend Barcelona, it was wankers just 'enjoying' themselves by pushing other people around.

not the same thing...it's the attitude behind it...like you can have the best concert on an average setlist..just because the atmosphere is right.

I find it depressing that so many people here defend their right to 'enjoy' themselves at the expense of everyone around them.
I can handle the rough parts...wouldn't have been front row every time otherwise..but it spoils your enjoyment when you have to constantly think about your own safety...
next off to Bologna..not even a ticket yet apart from maybe in the sides...but that'll be interesting to see a gig where I might not be so close (and I bloody love to be able to actually have eye contact with the guys..always have at gigs or theatre shows) but where I don't have to constantly think about how I stand, how I breath, etc... and stupid me is trying to think about people around as well..diving down to fish out someone else's bag for example...thinking back on it I must be crazy because it was soo dangerous..

for 1 show..I'll be back in the pit in no time and will, from my 5'6" (1.65), fend off any idiots trying to force himself into my hard-hearned spot...
just wish that every gig could be like Lisbon, or even Ben Harper @ Hammersmith Apollo...great atmosphere yet roome to move and dance without having to worry.

some of the guys defending moshng should get girlfriends and see how they enjoy the mosh pit..

lets not mix proper moshing with those little spanish gypsies just trying ot push to the front and giving u cheap elbows. That is what irritates me, not the ones accidently bumping.

If people are going to be idiots and mosh, I'd rather they're knocking into me than someone who might not be able to stand their ground...

I'll give as good as I get.

I'm not talking about a little shoving. I'm talking about people climbing up my back, using elbows to push me back so they can get in front of me. Of having to leave because I was afraid to fall down and get trampled. Of choosing between havign a physical fight with someone to prevent them from pushing me down or back.

What gives you the right to push yourself into my spot that I waited 10 hours to get? Why do I have to move? Why don't I have the right to stay right where I am? I dance, I jump, I sing. I would have like to have done it from the front of the venue.

You cannot observe very much from the back of the venue - just listen which is what I had to do.

    Well said! :)

That's not what the people -the majority - who argue against moshing have said!!!

    *shakes head*

And, really, after reading the whole thread I'm astonished at how people can defend hurting fellow PJ fans in the name of moshing or enjoying themselves at a rock show that way.

It's so depressing. I can't imagine how these people can call themselves PJ fans and be such assholes at the same time. I thought we were way more caring than that. Sad to say, but PJ should stop playing in places where people are known for moshing.

What worries me is that this happens after Roskilde.

PJ did not play in Europe for 6 years after that!

From reading the fanviews Paris has been quite bad in the pit, people were scared for their safety. That should not happen.

Why should a minority spoil it for the majority of PJ fans who are considerate and respectful of their fellow fans?

And no one is arguing against rocking out at their concert by jumping around, dancing, singing.

Most people are comfortable with GA, lots of people down the front and some bouncing around, pogoing etc right?

It's the moshing and disregard for the people around you that is being complained about. It's generally drunk or younger fans but it is inconsiderate and is more relevant to metal concerts. There was a small amount of moshing going on at Dublin and a little bit behind me at Reading, which did piss me off because instead of being able to get absorbed in the concert I was constantly getting crashed into. It does take away from the enjoyment of the gig, you don't have to crash into other fans who aren't moshing!!

I think an earlier post had it about right, the band don't welcome it, neither do the vast majority of PJ fans, be more considerate or take it somewhere else...

    Stupid....!!!
There is a differecne between 1. drinking a few beers, having fun and singing along, and 2. disturbing the show and not letting the oportunity to others to enjoy it....!!!
