What's so bad about Creed?

I thought the first album was pretty good and overplay made me basically despise them. When they came to town to play i didn't really care to see them but Sevendust was opening and I love Sevendust so I decided to go to the show. I left the concert loving Creed. Their music, while artistically not that amazing , was very crowd empowering and the energy was amazing. I have been to lots of concerts and I have yet to feel exactly the same type of energy. Don't get me wrong its not my favorite show of all time or anything it just had this intangible element that made the energy at the show great.

I like Creed....Scott Stapp is a douche but I like the music.

I definitely wasn't expecting it to happen when it did. Trust me when I left the show I was flabbergasted. Now don't get me wrong. I still listen to Sevendust on a semi frequent basis and I haven't played a creed song in a long time. Sevendust is clearly the better band but live.... Creed just had something special with all of the hit songs they had. And it made for an amazing experience.

As big of a joke as Creed is, their first cd was actually good. Or at least I thought it was because everyone else in grade school did as well. There were a bunch of bands I liked but as I got older and realized all of the crazy good music out there, Creed seems to get even worse and more laughable now. Mark is actually talented but I think it's just that Stapp is a clown and they got caught up with partying every night and they mailed it in on their records and shows.

With that being said... I would probably do the same thing so I'm not criticizing, just saying. If I hit it big with my boys in a band, shit would hit the fan especially if people were still buying albums.

Oh, and Creed Shreds has been #1 on my YouTube power ranking of greatest videos for about 4 years running now.

Like what you like and don't be ashamed of it. That being said, every artist is influenced by other artists. To say that creed was "influenced" by certain "grunge" bands, is an understatement of historical proportions, however. Plagiarism is probably more accurate. Again, if you like it, if it pleases you, rock that shit, but to answer the original question, i think many people dislike creed because it is the opinion of many that they kinda suck and Scott Stapp is a bit of a tool. (not to be compared to the band tool as they were/are pretty fuckin sweet!) :)

I'm not ashamed at all lol but I still disagree with people saying there rip offs of grunge bands I don't think Scott sounds anything like Eddie (he wishes) and I don't think Creed sounds anything like AIC or PJ. Thanks for your positive input man!

Just my humble opinion, but you asked so....here goes....

Creed embodies everything that's wrong or could possibly go wrong with mainstream-bro-rock music.

    1. Shirts with flames on them and leather pants
    2. Melted-Swiss-cheesy-as-fuck riffs played with the appropriate I'm-rocking-so-hard-that-it-hurts faces
    3. Watered down, unoriginal tunes. I'm sorry, but mashing together AiC's Rooster and PJ's Alive and covering with spitshine from a corporate shit eating grin doesn't make it anything but shit worth flushing.

Oh, and top all of that with poorly written songs about god. Sorry, but they're the worst, or at least they're up there pretty far.

To each his own, though. All music is there for someone to enjoy. Liking Creed is a tough job but someone's gotta do it.

Haha, come on man. Really? It means what it says. To my ears, it's super hammy, overly-emotional music played with a fake sincerity. And I wasn't referring to a specific song but it could be any of them, I suppose. Dark and brooding but with uplifting, life-affirming, super fucking hokey choruses. They pulled pages from the "grunge" book and just watered it down. That's their sound to my ears. Nothing more.

Also, when they made their comeback I saw some live footage on TV and Scott Stapp Infection sounded seriously fucking tone deaf. My heart went out to anyone who paid to see it and didn't learn from the first time the band was around.

For the life of me, the only band I can think of that MAY be worse is Nickleback. I'd rather listen to a 13-year-old's first band practice in his parents' garage then have to listen to any of that shit.

Nickelback is absolutely horrible. But I can name way worse bands the that. Just to name a few....
    Volbeat at number 1
    Five Finger Death Punch
    Pop Evil
    Three Days Grace..

So nobody here liked Creed when they first came out? Cause I kinda feel like alot of the hate towards them comes from overplay.

I'm sure everyone liked Creed but they won't admit it because it isn't hip. When a band gets too big, suddenly everyone hates them for it. It's hipster logic. Creed had some great songs, but should have never made a music video (or at least should never had any creative control over one). My god they were all terrible and self indulgent and really over-played the regilious themes of some of the songs and stopped people from being able to have their own interpretation.

I most certainly did NOT like Creed - there were infintely better rock bands about during Creed's peak.

False. Can't say that I, myself, or one single person I was friends with at the time Creed came out was a fan of that band. Not in the least.

My Own Prison is a good album. I'll be a man and say it. They just regressed big time after that.

My own prison is good album. Saw them at a festival right after it came out. Our Lady peace and foo fighters were the headliners after them. I just grew tired of their musical formula after they got so big. Their behind the music and them being compared to a pearl jam rip off ruined their career as far as being huge in the public eye. Their bass player was originally fired for comparing Eddie Vedder and Scott stapp. The media had a field day with it. They broke up cause their was no creativity. Alter bridge formed, and alter bridge is amazing. I guess the guys in Creed divide their time between the two bands now, cause Creed still goes out on tour here and there, and makes albums latest being 2009.

I'll admit.....I thought Creed was generic and derivative the minute one of my buddies played me their first cd. A couple of them hung on for awhile, but I got the last laugh when they realized how shitty Creed is.

Alter Bridge isn't really any better. Still really formulaic and is basically Creed with a cheesy metal sheen added to it. More musical talent shown with Tremonti and Kennedy, but not really any more interesting.
